Before I get to the food, I want to talk about the ownership. They were awesome. Very friendly and as we sat outside and could overhear the kitchen banter, you could tell that making a great dining experience was of the utmost importance. Now, to the food. I had a cold lobster roll and seafood bisque and it was fantastic. Lots of lobster on a perfectly toasted roll. The bisque was creamy and had nice chunks of seafood. I love this cute little BYOB setup by the river in Westbrook. Staff is super friendly. The food is quality, delicious, and they give you healthy portions along with reasonable pricing. Family friendly, but they close on the earlier side since a majority of the space is outdoor seating (though they do have a small enclosed space, more of an FYI) WARNING IF COMING BY BOAT: There is a dock BUT the dock is in HORRENDOUS condition and very unsafe. Wouldn't recommend pulling up here or even letting people off here as we saw one persons trip and fall and another piece of dock plank come up and almost knock a guy out, but instead he was able to avoid this and fell off into the water. Really surprised there were no signs up front as a lot of the planks were loose and this structure should be condemned or there should be signs near the dock and not up toward the restaurant. For this HUGE safety tiff i knock one star off. read more

So we found this place when we drove into town to stay at for the week. The location is great, right on the river with tables located outside . In the sunlight it was perfect with a little breeze and great scenery. Ordered the clam chowder, have to say it was completely unspiced, very low in clam, and the potatoes were way too large. After we sliced up for potatoes and turn them into bite-size pieces, added salt and pepper it was deemed acceptable. Not outstanding for sure. We ordered the El capezzone, Italian sandwich. It was smaller than expected, approximately 6" total with only one slice of each meat. But we do have to say that the spicing of the sandwich was perfection. It was just spicy enough to taste good but not too much to be overwhelming. You order your food inside and then they bring it to your table. The server that brought us our clam chowder, brought one bowl and only one spoon for the two of us. No napkins. When the sandwich was served it was served on one plate for the two of us. He brought one napkin and that was it. Over the course of the meal I had to walk back inside multiple times to get the rest of the serving utensils, napkins, salt and pepper and such. Again not a major thing but it does add up overall. read more

Food with a view. Edd's states that it's cuisine to go but that's not really true. Must people do probably get the chow to go but they do have plenty of tables situated outside by the river or inside a little gazebo like thing in the back. They even have a little playground for kids. The menu is certainly not what you'll find in the fancier seafood restaurants in the area but it is pretty good for a take out joint with some surprising specials on occasion. However the last time we were here they were out of all lobster items. Pretty disappoint and surprising since they have huge signs advertising lobster stuff all over the place. Sometimes you just have to rough it. The main attraction of this place for me is the view. Right on the Menunketesuck River with beautiful sights, sounds and smells of the salt marsh. With luck you can even watch an osprey, egret, heron or even a bizarre ibex flying around or hunting for food. While we were eating we saw a family of geese waddling around only a short distance away. If you happen to be yaking the river you can stop here for a quick bite and then continue your trip. Edd's is a different and interesting place to stop for a bite if you don't want to bother with the snootier and more formal places in the area. The lobster rolls and bisque are good but apparent sell out on occasion. Still it's a nice place to sit by the cool river and watch the ever changing salt marsh. All in the matter of a few years, Edd's Place has gone from the absolute top of my list to the very bottom of my list. Edd's Place is not the same place it used to be. Other than adding more picnic tables, Edd really hasn't kept pace with the exponential growth of his customer base and the problems that arise because of it. What used to be a quiet and relaxing evening by the river with affordable good food has now changed into a stretched-out ordeal with horribly overpriced food. It pains me to say this because I used to be a big fan of this place. Lately whenever I visit in the summer time, the building is boiling hot and the teen employees tend to move slow as molasses. The cash register and credit card machines always seem like foreign objects to these folks (I wish they hadn't left the other half of their brains at home). The prices are 40% higher than they were a couple years ago. On top of that, the food is smaller portioned and the greasiest than it's ever been. My rant is hardly over. Outside, the tables are filthy and the long wait for the food is painfully unbearable. Lots of loud families and little kids running around have replaced older quiet couples for the customer base. It's quite evident that this place gets understaffed during peak periods. Edd can't do all the cooking by himself although many times he is found in the kitchen alone. He simply gets overwhelmed. And I can't help but think of him working while beads of sweat drip into my food as he prepares it. Yea, it's a sickening thought but it's probably an unfortunate reality. If Edd is not sweating in that kitchen then he is not human. I was sweating just standing motionless at the counter. Edd's Place needs to make some drastic changes soon or otherwise it will implode. Tonight I overheard two other customers complaining so I'm not alone in my thoughts. Edd needs to enlarge the kitchen, air-condition it, hire more employees and hire more cooks. It's not the same rinky dink food stand that started out several years ago. But Edd still operates it like a small business. At the same time, the customer base has quadrupled and quintumpled over the years. So I'm done for this year. I just can't take another ordeal like tonight's experience. It's becoming more of a pattern and it's something I'd rather avoid. Maybe I'll return in the fall time to see if things have improved. But kudos to the state troopers for having the patience to patronize this place. They must have some long kick-ass lunch breaks to waste so much valuable time waiting for their food. Too bad the food is no longer worth it. The "cuisine to go" has long been gone for some time. We have been going to Edd's for years now, whenever visiting this part of the CT shoreline. Before moving closer to the area, we would stay at Beechtree Cottages, and we sampled many of the eateries in the area. Edd's became our favorite, hands down, for old-fashioned home cooking in a casual place with a gorgeous view. Whether it was a late breakfast, lunch, or an early supper, we were never disappointed. And grabbing a picnic table, opening a bottle of wine (BYOB), and enjoying the sunset over supper is a perfect way to wind down a quintessential shoreline day. We were searching for a local place and skipped Bill's in favor for Edd's. This is a little place but big on personality! Stop here for a casual place for lunch or dinner. And by casual they mean paper plates, place your order, pay and they bring your order to you. Note: they don't do a wide selection of fried seafood, as they say, "everyone else on this little strip does that" - but they do a mean lobster roll and have a variety of other items to choose from. The real reason you go to Edd"s? A really quaint and beautiful setting. Even if it's raining, you can sit in their warm, enclosed outdoor room and look out on the marshland - very pretty and calming and lovely. Also note: no liquor license, but guess what? You can BYOB. How could you not stop here when you see a big sign out front that says "lobster pot pie"? We were so happy we decided to come to Edds for dinner. It was not crowded, the food was amazing, and the sunset on the water was just beautiful. You order inside, my husband got crab cakes (app) and fish and chips. I splurged and ordered the lobster pot pie which came with two sides, I chose brussel sprouts and coleslaw. The meals were amazing. The fish & chips were uniquely seasoned, almost with a hint of nutmeg served on a roll with fries. The fries were extra crispy and perfect. The lobster pie was pure heaven. It was filled with huge chunks of lobster and the sauce and pastry was delicious, well worth the $36. I was less impressed with the brussel sprouts, they seemed a bit waterlogged but everything else made up for it. I wish we were hungry enough to try one of their homemade desserts. read more

I got the 4oz lobster roll (cold) with fries. Huge chunks of lobster and was the perfect size. The fries were amazing too, they were extremely crispy which was great. The views are spectacular! The food is just simply, not good. The staff were nice enough and the place is clean. We had clam chowder and the fish sandwich which was like eating a giant fish stick on a hot dog roll. The clam chowder was mostly heavy cream with no clams. Wanted so very much to love everything here. Got the crispy chicken sandwich, very thin, who slices pickles spears onto a sandwich, shouldn't it be flat? We were going to go to Lobster Landing and I guess we should have, we had just seen a review so we thought we'd try it. Companion who had lobster roll was very disappointed, said you could tell it was not fresh like Lobster Landing, and did not eat her potato salad. The mother had the shrimp tacos and, what is up with the cabbage not being marinated at all? I mean no sauce on it? It was confusing, and not very tasty. The french fries were excellent. We all agreed that was the best part of the meal. The coleslaw was good. It's a shame some of whatever sauce it was on the slaw wasn't on the raw cabbage in the shrimp taco. Can not believe some of the comments about our favorite place to eat! We summer in Westbrook and have been gping to Edd's Place on and off for years. Formerly you ordered from a chalk board in a small, usually overly crowded building which was sometimes confusing and stressful. I was so excited to try out Edds Place last night with friends and it did not disappoint! I had a perfectly cooked burger and fries while my friends tried the chicken sandwiches. Both were cooked perfectly--the chicken with a great blend of spices and aioli that was wonderful (I also dipped my fries in it). The BYOB option is great because we each had exactly what we wanted and the service was spot on. We also had the cheddar jalapeño corn bread with honey butter--A-MAZING! And the clam chowder was spot on. Our kids are off the kids meal and it was refreshing to see a wonderful side of fresh fruit for them. The carrot cake for dessert was one of the best I'd ever eaten--not too "spiced" and the cream cheese frosting not too sweet. Perfectly balanced, moist, and flavorful. If you haven't been to Edds Place in a while now is a great time to check them out. The view was spectacular as the sun set. We will definitely be back, and often! read more

When you go to a place so many times over half your life (literally), and then read oddly negative reviews on Yelp, you realize that people can just be silly and plain irrational! However, I won't let some of the foolishness below tarnish a tried-and-true staple of my summer life. Edd's is a seaside gem, and if you're looking for a tasty pit stop on your way to or from the beach or the outlets, try Edd's for these reasons: 1) Lobster rolls. Next to Hallmark, Edd's is my key destination to get a perfect lobster roll. Whether hot and buttered, or cold and in salad form, Edd's portions are generous, and the lobster is succulent. Do yourself a favor and get one. Also do everyone else a favor and DON'T complain about the price (which are actually VERY reasonable compared to many places in the area) -- it doesn't matter that it's lobster meat on a hot dog bun; lobster on anything is expensive! 2) Specials. Their lunch and dinner specials are always changing, always interesting, and always delicious. A perennial favorite is the "sea dog", a hot dog shaped cut of cod that's fried and served on a hot dog bun with tartar sauce. The sea dog is huge and hugely satisfying if you're in the mood for fried seafood. They also serve a fried soft shell crab sandwich that is my personal favorite and is HEAVENLY. 3) The desserts here are FABULOUS. Their key lime pie is the stuff of legend among my family and friends, and trust me, I am a certified pie snob. Their desserts are always interesting and very satisfying: from apple dumplings to cupcakes, from blueberry, key lime, and rhubarb and strawberry pie to layer cakes and cheesecake, their selection changes every day and are always reliably delicious. 4) Octoberfest. I know, random, right? Select weekends from September to October, Edd's serves up a smorgosborrd of Octoberfest dinners, complete with delicious German desserts like my grandma makes, perfect sides, and of course, sausage, schnitzel, and hearty main courses that make you want to raise a glass and "ticky tacky ticky tacky oi! oi! oi!" It can get busy and hectic inside, certainly, but I've never had an Edd's employee be rude or unfriendly to me, so I don't know what the commentary below is about. Also, no matter what you get at Edd's, make sure to get an old fashioned glass bottle of coke and take the top off on the bottle top remover on the wall. We have driven past hundreds of times and year round there are cars in the lot. Today we decided to see the menu and have a bite with the kids. WOW! We were very happy with our food and by far the greatest selling point was their view. Far better than Bill's down the street. The place is small and is not newby friendly. We didn't where to go to order and we had to bus our table. There was no clear direction where the utensils and plates went. This is a nice lunch stop but there was no dinner menu to view. we were driving through the area & had our dog with us, & by chance, we asked if they allow dogs in their outdoor seating. luckily, they are super dog friendly, & brought him water & treats, & lots of pets. the food was outstanding, as we are fans of hot lobster rolls & sometimes can only find the cold lobster salad versions. the shrimp tacos & lobster grilled cheese were also really tasty. a really nice seafood heavy restaurant with noticeably fresh & well-made food. it's an incredible view of the sunset, salt marshes & train tracks off in the distance, & most tables are outside but they do have a railroad car style sheltered area for less perfect days. we can't wait to go back. read more

I've been coming here for breakfast for years, however I get the same thing every time. Egg and cheese on a hard roll. I really should branch out and try a different item (or even come for dinner), but the sandwich is SO GOOD! The roll is crispy since they grill it, but then the egg and cheese is so gooey and delicious. I love it! I can always count on this since I've found it very difficult to find a place in Clinton/Westbrook/Old Saybrook able to duplicate a delicious breakfast. Nice seating outside along the river. Only problem is the service. Best thing to do is call in your order ahead and then sit there and enjoy the view while you eat your to-go. Otherwise you will be waiting at least 40 mins for your meal. We have eaten at Ed's on every family vacation to Westbrook Ct. The view is spectacular and the food incredible. They have the best lobster rolls on the planet and they have daily specials like Veal Osso Buco and Duck. This is a place you must try once and you will be hooked. The waitstaff is awesome and friendly. The main host is a woman named Pam and she is spectacular. She is funny and cute and loves to tickle little Marty.
