In town for a wedding, a friend and I came here after looking at recommended places to eat. Greeted with a friendly smile rite off the bat. Everything on the menu sounded delicious, I chose the steak and eggs, and it was cooked to perfection! So juicy and tender! Be ready to chow down when you come to Edelweiss. I have only been in a handful of places where there is an option to get a half portion AND it still fills you up. This spot is down home cooking with a friendly staff. My wife and her family have been coming here for many, many moons. So I tend to come here often and I love it. They are famous for the very large and in charge omelettes, which I have had many. There are at least 2 dozen choices or you can get fancy and build your own. The burgers are also good if you come in the afternoon. I recently splurged for the steak and eggs, which I was so happy with I ate the whole thing. I asked for a re-fill but they had just ran out of extra steaks. Dang It!!! Maybe next time. This spot if full of regulars but don't be afraid to head on in. This is the perfect breakfast stop heading up to Reno/Tahoe off I-80 in Auburn. With a name like that you have to have super omelettes and they do. The menu lists well over 25 types and every one of them is the size of a small football. On my most recent trip I enjoyed the sausauge, chili and avocado omelette. This thing had the largest chunks of avocado I have ever seen in an omelette. Inside you will find the walls plastered with local artwork, paintings of cowboys and Sierra Nevada scenes, artwork that would fit perfect in some rustic cabin with a wood stove. You'll also spot a photo of Wild Bill Hickock and several funny quotes, including a daily trivia question on a dry erase board. The day I was there it was about mythology, Medusa and her sisters. I frequent this diner more than any other comprable breakfast spot in town. The prices are reasonable, the staff is all very friendly and the food is quality. Omelets are large and no shortage of ingredients no matter which of the 40 something varieties you choose from. I prefer the 'Good Day Sacramento.' The french toast is good and thick. Oh and the bacon is awesome, so have some of that. There is a counter for those of you dining solo. Hate to be a negative Ned, but when I see 4.5 stars with more than 100 reviews, I'm expecting "above average", and my experience was not. I'll start with the positives: 1) Very nice staff/ family (owned) 2) Big portions. However my wife and I had the same reaction to the following: 1) It was a busy day for them, however I wish they would have given us a heads-up that it would take almost 45mins to eat after ordering. 2) Our iced-tea had a "fishy" aftertaste. I'm not sure why, but we both tasted it. 3) My omelette had avocado that was not ripe and should not have been served. It was crunchy!! 4) I found it a little odd my omelette which comes with salsa and sour-cream was put in to sealed plastic cups as if I asked for it "to-go". I didn't even ask for it to be on the side, but if that's how you usually serve that dish, I feel those items should still be plated. Not a big deal, but just odd. 5) After ordering only one drink and one omelette each, the bill was $24...which seems steep for very average food. Was exploring the historic area around here (both Gold Rush and RailRoad), asked some of the locals for good cafe fare, and they pointed me here. Hard to go wrong with fluffy Omelettes that take up 3/4 of the plate! The combo (ham, onion, mushroom, American cheese, peppers) was on special ($8.95) and the scrapings on the home fries tasted as if cooked in cast iron. At 100 degrees outside, It was a little HOT to be drinking coffee, so went with the Iced Tea. It only came in a giant mason jar, refilled continually. Very friendly service. Folksy, homey, make everyone feel welcome. Since it's a quick ascent up into the Sierras after Auburn, and not many exits along I-80 with services until Truckee, this is a good comfort food either on the way up, OR enroute back from Reno/Tahoe, etc. Since I like visiting the sites up here (American River Canyon & a good bike ride from where I live), safe to say there will be a return visit. Ran in here this morning for breakfast/lunch, haven't been in years, girlfriend has never been. Place was packed as usual, two efficient and awesome ladies running the front end. Our server was great, busy, funny and efficient. They know how to work the front end of the house from a professional background and do so very well. The food arrived as ordered, quick and very good. The cooks know their game well. Satisfied with the portion and quality of the food, again, I'm a professional in the industry at the back of the house so I consider myself rather well educated about the food/hospitality service. They have a great place and it's been in business for a long time for a reason. Perfect setup for a breakfast lunch joint. Quality ingredients too, I believe they use del monte for their meats, and that's a big plus over Sysco. The prices seem high, but the quality and wait staff make it worthwhile, and the portions are solid. Five stars for breakfast. We were visiting friends in Auburn, and they took us to breakfast here. So this review is based on our one time here. Though our Auburn friends go there often. They say it's the best breakfast in town. And from our experience, this is no doubt true. Nice homey atmosphere. A "lived-in" feeling. Staff is very friendly and fun. Service was great -- coffee refilled quickly. Food delivered in a very timely manner. Bacon and egg special -- good. Choice of hash browns or country potatoes. Nice to have the choice (some places only do one or the other). Also the choice of bread includes a biscuit. Or biscuit and gravy. One person got the biscuit and gravy, and this was a mini-meal by itself. One had a "mini breakfast" -- one egg, choice of meat, potatoes, and bread. She didn't finish it. So even the minis are large. The omelets are HUGE. Really. Two people could share an omelet. (They have a half omelet, but it's only $1 less than the regular. Order the regular and share of take half home. Or eat the whole thing!) And the servings of hash browns are large as well. And the food is good. If ever we're in Auburn again, we're definitely doing breakfast here again. read more

I wasn't expecting my Sandwich to be hot as the menu did not say it was a melt or designate a hot sandwich. I have no idea how 2 kids meals and a sandwich were $32. Maybe the kids juice were $5 each. I dunno. It could be we were charged for the glass cup one lady gave my 3 year old who of course dropped it and it shattered under the table when I couldn't catch it. The other lady brought him a replacement in a paper cup. If I had been give an option or knew that existed I would have asked but we've never been there and some places only have glass. I picked up the big pieces and put them in a napkin at the edge of the table but neither of them noticed a glass shatter in the tiny restaurant or it sitting on the table, even when one came to finish taking our orders I had to point it out to her. Located in downtown Auburn with your small town feel where the locals are known by name. It is a popular place, they could use more help. My mom didn't get her side of avocado till we were done eating. My family was grateful that the waiter didn't charge because it took so long. The staff were very kind. So the food was good I got scrambled eggs bacon and blueberry pancakes. Bacon was over cooked but my mom's bacon wasn't I guess it happens. We waited for about 10 minutes and our tummies were rumbling so we decided to try again another time when we get there earlier. I'm thinking that's the key.
