Eden called and informed us the OpenTable app booked us an outdoor table in error. They were implying that they had no service outside, I asked if they would serve us since it was booked for a graduation celebration, they agreed to it, though it seemed reluctantly. We arrived on time and we're escorted to the front patio where there were several outdoor tables; all tables outside were Unoccupied at 7pm. Immediately the server asked us if we could place the food order as we received our first drinks because the kitchen was "very busy". We quickly ordered on his advice. Surprisingly our appetizers arrived 5 minutes after putting the order in to a "very busy" kitchen, a palette cleanser arrived a minute after the appetizers. The entree arrived 9 minutes after that. This was an intentional speed service overload at the table by our server. (The server was the one on the phone encouraging us to not keep the reservation). He was determined to ruin the graduation celebration because we kept, in his mind, the questionable reservation. I have never witnessed this psychotic behavior by a lead service person. He tried to apologize but he was not sincere and unconvincing since intentionally slamming the table with all ordered items after 15 minutes of being seated. This is not an exaggeration, we were there for 15 minutes and the table had appetizers, a palette cleanser, and our entree in addition to our first drink order. It was shocking to all 4 of us to say the least. I asked him why he is treating us in this fashion, and was it due to the an OpenTable malfunction, he responded in weird whispers while heavily perspiring. I firmly explained to him his fully intentional behavior cannot be forgiven. The restaurant food was ok, we made the best of it,however this server just got off the bus from crazy-town. read more

We went on a Saturday night. The decor is recovered wood with gorgeous tables, but metal legged chairs should not be used on rough tile -- I scared people when I stood up. The menu looked delectable and our server had fantastic personality and was so attentive that we gave him a higher tip than usual. But my steak -- well marbled and obviously high quality meat -- was entirely unseasoned and no salt was on our table to help. The razor back clams had a sweet juice on them with chickpeas instead of a seasoned butter. And I took 3 bites of the pots de creme to taste the chocolate. Also they don't serve coffee. Delicious creative cocktails appetizers and main course with a super good local red wine. Ate outside in the lively square shared with several other restaurants. Great vibe and excellent service. NY state rye Manhattan cocktail and pomegranate gin for my daughter's 21st birthday were perfect starters. My younger daughter loved her mocktail. We toured the entire menu except the seared beef. Imaginative appetizers included fire roasted ground lamb and grits iron casserole topped with an egg, fire caramelized cheese and root veggies, perfectly seared scallops and greens drizzled with a light sauce. We were pretty full just with the apps but the food was so good we had almost every main course too. Everything was perfectly done, deep flavors of home garden freshness with very light seasoning to allow the fire to show it's flavoring. Yum. Best Restaurant downtown Syracuse Well, my daughter and I found this place on line and we were blown away at the quality of the food! Eden is tucked away on the street but well worth the find. I had the grilled shrimp and octopus that was delicious. If you go try the grilled Halloumi, delicious. We plan on going back every time we visit her at Syracuse. What a wonderful place we found on our way home from Canada. I envy those, who live in Syracuse and could dine here often. Great atmosphere, delicious food, great cocktails, fresh produce and outstanding service. Garden of Earthly Delights! The Eden in Hanover Square is a don't miss on your culinary itinerary! The tables and benches are done in faux wood. It looks great with the decor of Eden and surprisingly the benches were very comfortable. The Whiskey Sour and Red Currant Cosmo were both excellent. The food was fresh and local as described on the menu. Standouts were the Scallops, prepared perfectly, Rib Eye, cooked perfectly and arrived sliced without need of a knife accompanied by arguably the best roasted carrots I've had and smashed potatoes roasted on the embers. The Gazpacho served from a chilled pot into a chilled bowl was delicious however may be a little too much heat for some. Service was attentive however we had ordered Gazpacho and Roasted Beet salad and server brought an eggplant dish instead of beets. We explained no eggplant for us and he left only to return with the dish moments later to ask if we were sure we hadn't ordered the Eggplant. Seeing as he took the order with memory he may want to add a notepad to write down orders. I was very excited to see this opening last week- having been to Hen of the Wood a few times already really set the bar quite high for Eden. Syracuse has needed a creative restaurant like this for some time now. The space: the restaurant is situated in Hanover Square in a very cool building. The interior is tastefully decorated to make it feel quite intimate, which they do a great job of. I've followed them on Instagram for some time now and the renovation they have underwent (you can see updates on their page from over the past year) makes you wonder how they could have created such a beautiful space. Walking down the stairs into the dining area you immediately see the chef station and those open fires, which is probably no mistake. You're immediately drawn in by the atmosphere upon entering. The food: the standout of our night was by far the oven roasted chicken entree; a large piece of chicken situated on top of trumpet mushrooms and grits. This was recommended by our server actually. We also had the scallops and culurgiones- a dish that I've never tried before and is definitely worth exploring. I had the ember roasted ribeye and my only qualm with the dish was that there wasn't enough chimi churri on the plate. Definitely cannot hold it against them, as it was opening weekend and almost every table was full. The service: I thought the service was above average, our waiter made great recommendations on both wine selections and the dinner menu. He also was very helpful in turning down the music speakers (we were seated in front of this Bluetooth speaker playing music). Price: I thought pricing was very fair and reflects the experience that you get when you dine here. For three people, including wine and cocktails, we ended up paying ~$200 with tip. Where do I start? We had an early dinner here and everything was top notch. We were greeted promptly, hung up our coats and seated promptly. Without going into detail everything we had was wonderful. Warm beet salad, cast iron roasted chicken, flank steak, and rice pudding with frozen orange and caramel popcorn was the order of the night for us. Everything was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. The ambiance was great. As soon as you walk in the smells from the wood fired grill invite you to sit and dine. Our waiter, Brian was great! He did a great job presenting the menu, making sure we had everything we wanted and just being enjoyable to be around. Actually all the staff we interacted with were wonderful. I took a friend out for her birthday celebration at Eden and we both had an exceptional time. Everything from the food, choice of wines, service, and willingness to accommodate our dietary restrictions was exceptional. I had been there prior and the server remembered my allergies. It is this attention to detail which makes Eden exemplary. We had the Hosmer Riesling from Cayuga Lake, NY, which paired nicely with the beautifully cooked scallop app and monkfish entree. Though the ice cream cookie (a favourite) was not on the menu, the staff provided me with the delicious homemade cinnamon ice cream with their homemade Graham crackers. Delicioso! Went on Valentine's Day and tried the duck prosciutto, the beet "lover letters" and ember roasted rib eye. The duck and the rib eye were over salted, the portions for the "love letters" was tiny and the waiter kept asking me to buy him a shot so I can only assume he hates working there. It happened to be an unseasonable 80-degree day in October, so I took my chances at 3:45 to see if I could reserve an outdoor table for two at 5:00p and I was in luck. The food and the service at this establishment was extraordinary. We arrived about 12 minutes early for our reservation and it was clear that the restaurant staff were still setting up. But the two servers there were so kind and accommodating and seated us right away. We ordered mojitos to sip on while we waited for our small plates. The mojitos packed quite a punch and were delicious. One of the servers brought us each a thinly sliced apples rolled around a honey nut squash custard. Oh. My. God. It tasted like autumn! Our small plate dish was the scallops. They melted in my mouth. My large plate was the honey but squash tortellini that was to die for. The tortellini innards were so creamy. My dinner date had the Ember Roasted NY Strip, which appeared to be a very large portion and quickly inhaled. For dessert we shared a baked apple tart with whipped cream. Oh. My. Gawd. Visited this brand new restaurant in Hanover Square and I was blown away! I have never experienced the use of open flames to cook a full meal (including salad) and it was the most inventive meal I have ever had. The chef charred citrus (lemon and orange) and zested this for the salad and then used the juice to make the vinaigrette which was outstanding. I know because i asked because it was SO good! The sausage was the best I ever had and the use of edible flowers and micro greens is a true testament to the level of care that goes into the meal. Dinner here was truly a sensory experience more than just a meal and we'll definitely be back. I should also mention that the staff is warm and attentive and the cocktails are just as exciting as the menu. I live in NYC but visit Syracuse often and look forward to returning. read more

I have been to Eden twice, and their food and service are both exceptional. They have innovative and delicious dishes. However, during this COVID-19 pandemic, Chef Rich did something truly special. I emailed the restaurant to see if I could get takeout to celebrate my 20th wedding anniversary, and Rich offered to prepare a special meal for my wife and me. Beautiful experience beginning to end. Most unique dining I have enjoyed in Syracuse in years. I went for it and ordered 5 courses - one at a time - and asked Abby to pair each with a drink. I sat at the bar and was in no rush. Beet and Orange Drink - I cant explain how good it was!! Oysters - fresh and milky and briny - no condiments needed - just taste of the ocean - but the lemon ice was a cool touch! A little amuse bouche - the tiniest little tomatoes you have ever seen. So cute! And bursting with flavor! I swear half of one of those little guys had more flavor than entire meals elsewhere! The pumpkin soup. Yummmmmy. Served in a squash that had been placed above the fire. The soup was amazing but I also carved out the squash from the inside and ate the flesh - smoky and scrumptious! Then I decided to get a salad - chose the tomato salad. 15 varieties easily. All flavorful and fresh. Smooth and creamy goat cheese - enough for every bite of salad. Take some time and try each little touch - there was a yellow shoot of some kind that I had never heard of. Almost had a light anise flavor. So delicate. These are the touches that set Eden apart! I decided on the Hangar Steak with charred carrots and "smashed" potatoes. Frankly - while the hangar steak was good - the sides were the stars. The charred carrots were halved lengthwise and tender but not mushy. I can't explain the smashed potatoes. You will just have to try them for yourself to believe me. Desserts weren't on the menu but Abby told me all about them. I chose the grilled peaches with burnt orange whipped cream and rosemary shortbread crumble. Ahhhhhhh. Not sweet. So luscious. I wanted to buy dozens of shortbread cookies!! Other choices were a poached pear. And corn ice cream. Can't remember their additional components but all looked fantastic. I can't say enough. I had lovely conversation with Abby the bartender. It is intimate and I could even talk to the chef while dining. I could watch them cook. I enjoyed every minute of my 3 hours just lazily enjoying all they had to offer. Craft cocktails. Local wine. I can't explain it all. 5 courses - with the amuse bouche and I forgot to mention a lettuce salad with champagne vinaigrette to cleanse the palate before dinner course - with 2 craft cocktails and 3 glasses of wine (yes I had a ride home) was $158 before tip. I had been meaning to got to Eden since day 1, but just hadn't been able to find time. I really regret that I didn't check it out earlier. Everything is prepared in a wood-fired open kitchen, and it is a foodie paradise. We started with some John's River oysters. The mingionette sauce was perfect, but the standout was the charred lemon ice garnish which is basically a smoky caramelized lemon granita. I wish we had gotten two orders. The chef sent us their grilled octopus appetizer, which was wonderful; perfectly tender. A hot wood fire is an extraordinary way to prepare that tricky meat. It was served with fire-browned potatoes, some edible flowers and a spicy aioli in a beautiful presentation that has been blowing up my Instagram feed. Their menu changes regularly, but don't pass that up if you see it. They gave us a perfectly dressed intermezzo of red lettuce as a palate cleanser before entrees. I had the ember roasted hangar steak. My dining partner had the Lubina. I ordered medium rare, and it was spot-on and with the char that only a hot wood fire can provide. We tasted each other's preparations and I can say the fish was amazing as well. The charred carrots that came with my entree have given me new perspective on what one can do with the humble carrot. The only down side is that for a fine dining establishment, the portions are huge. We took home boxes, and had to skip dessert. Apps, entree and a bottle of wine set us back about $150 before tip. I came here last night and was blown away! It was my first time here and it was perfect! The interior design is amazing. Abby served us our drinks- I got the beet/orange gin cocktail and it was unlike anything I've ever had. We got a small plate to start and our main dishes were so full of flavor!! I got the goat cheese pasta and my boyfriend ordered the steak. You can tell that all of the dishes are very well thought out. The restaurant is farm-to-table style so all of the ingredients are local and also wood-fired. Overall this place is a must try and probably my new favorite spot in Syracuse! This past Saturday night at 8:00 (probably the most important day and time to be prepared for guests) Eden was out of two major items on its already small menu: the ribeye steak entree and the scallops appetizer. We were also mistakenly given their 'previous' drink menu and ordered a gin cocktail off of it. Instead of having the bartender make the drink anyway, the smarmy waiter told us we have to order drinks off the 'current' menu. Did the bartender forget how to make that drink? There are three strikes already. On top of that, we also noticed the bartender making drinks with a bandaged hand and no glove. And the food, when we finally found some they had in stock, was salty. read more
