Manuelita playing in the garden.
John C.

Dr. Shanina Halbert is a compassionate and professional veterinarian who came to our home to help us when the difficult time came to put our 17-year-old cat, Manuelita, to rest. She was kind, communicative and gentle, and went above and beyond to make sure our cat felt safe on her final journey and went peacefully at home in our arms. Her calm bedside manner, clear communication, and genuine kindness made a painful experience much more manageable. She arrived promptly after short, off-hours notice, and treated our home and pet with great respect, care, and dignity. I am deeply grateful to and highly recommend Dr. Halbert to anyone seeking a caring, dignified at-home euthanasia service for a beloved pet.

Ziggie always wanted to make sure he was included! So he would pack himself into my suitcase! What a little love....so missed!

On one of the hardest days of my life, he helped make a heartbreaking situation feel a little more manageable. He explained everything clearly, treated Ñoño with dignity, followed up professionally, and most importantly, showed real compassion. He also worked with me on the price when I was in a very difficult spot, and that generosity meant more than I can put into words. What stood out to me most was that he did not make me feel rushed or like just another transaction. He understood that this was family, not "just a pet," and he treated the moment with the seriousness and care it deserved. Losing a pet is brutal, and when you are trusting someone with someone you love, kindness matters. In my experience, Romo gave exactly that. I'm deeply grateful to him and to Small Paws Cremations for helping me through one of the hardest days I've had in a long time. I highly recommend them.

When we knew it was time, my wife started to call vets while I tried to sneak in as much extra time with my boy as I could. I can't say Hearts and Halos was the first place that we called, but I can say that I'm so happy that we ended up using their services. Mari was at our house a little over 2 hours after we called. She had a kind and soft presence and was extremely empathetic. She made what is an unavoidably brutal experience just a little bit more manageable. I'm incredibly grateful that this type of service exists. Being able to spend his last moments with him in the place that we were certain he was comfortable and at ease was invaluable.

I don't think you'll regret it. Having to say goodbye to Bear, my best friend in the world and and still the purest love I've ever received, was the saddest day of my life. And figuring out the "right time" was agonizing and I remember feeling so alone. I called Hearts and Halos, and the lady I spoke to was so kind and gave me excellent advice I think all pet parents need to hear when the time comes: only you know what your animal needs and value quality of life over everything else. When that time came, Hearts and Halos scheduled me for the next day and provided their services with great patience, compassion and respect, making an already terrible day a little less terrible. That was 5 years ago. I called them yesterday for a cremation certificate and information on traveling through airports because I've decided it's now time to spread Bear's ashes. The same lady who helped me 5 years ago called me back at 9am this morning. She didn't have all the answers I needed, but that's not the point. The point is she went out of her way to bring us to this full circle moment by again helping me say a different goodbye this time, and providing guidance through another painful phase of letting go. I never got her name, but I always remembered her, that phone call about the right time, and her returning my call today 5 years later. She's exactly the person I needed in those moments. A true blessing from above. Thanks again. - Bear's human

Ariel engraved all four of her paw prints in a heart shaped terracotta stone along with her tail which gave it that extra special unique touch. The ability to feel her feet and hands by tracing my fingers along each anatomical groove brings a smile to my face. Both my wife and I were crushed at the loss of our Great Pyrenees dog that prematurely suffered from cancer and when it was time to make the call I must say that the experience was absolutely appropriate and private. At some points it was as if he was not even in the room turning away to allow my wife and I to have complete privacy in the middle of this to say goodbye. He shared very few words only to relieve our anxiety and concerns about our animal's initial reaction or what to expect from the euthanasia. This in itself was so appropriate and created an environment where we were not being consumed by the "unknown" with regards to this process. He truly is the right type of person to help anybody from any background in saying goodbye to their pets in private in your own home and like I said, it was almost as if he wasn't even there. This is in response to the owner Jenny in regards to my original review and for the public so that…read morethey can be more informed: Jenny basically runs a 3rd party delivery service for pet haven. Even the name "royal pet mortuary" is deceptive because it is not a mortuary. All she does is take your phone calls and then arranges delivery to a crematorium for her extra fee. The real crematorium had their own delivery drivers typically for free. What Jenny does is add her fee and tell you that "she will take care of everything" in reality it is because of these 3rd party drivers that sometimes mistakes are made and the wrong pet ashes are returned among many other errors ( see pet haven reviews) You will be much better off contacting a real crematorium directly and making arrangements with them. Unfortunately there are many services like Jenny's that pretend to be "compassionate cremation services" and are simply delivery drivers and they charge a huge fee that isn't necessary on top of trying to sell you other keepsakes that the real crematoriums offer for much less. Also, there is no shortage of real crematoriums around Los Angeles and other areas. I am writing all this because I love my animal and hate the idea that there are people who take advantage of grieving pet parents. Her listed address is not a real location and there is zero regulation in this industry so if she made a mistake with your pet there would be almost no recourse. Especially is you don't even know where she is. Please be careful and do your research. There are many other predatory "services" like hers who will fake sympathy on the phone with you so that they can take your money. I highly recommend you call a real crematorium and ask for what is called a "witness cremation" to ensure that you get your own pets ashes back. They cost a bit more but well worth the peace of mind and you will be saving money by not having someone else drive the pet there and deliver ashes back to you which can take weeks or months instead of one day. I understand there may be people who don't want to deal with any arrangements for your deceased pet because of the inconvenience but your pet deserves better. I also recommend you read the reviews because sone of these places lack the ethics and have no compassion because they are huge corporations driven by profits only. It took me a whole week to learn this information and so now I'm sharing it here. Sending love and prayers to anyone who lost their beloved pet!

I am reluctantly leaving this review after a really heartbreaking experience on Friday…read more We had an appointment scheduled for an in home euthanasia for our sweet senior dog. We were okay paying so much in order to have his final moments be comfortable at home rather than on a cold clinic table, but we had a pretty awful experience. When witnessing this service in the past from other practitioners, a sedative was given to the dog prior to the lethal injection via IV. For our appointment however, the vet explained that a sedative comes before the lethal injection, but instead of setting up an IV for that, she abruptly stuck him in the back with a needle. He began yelping and crying out in pain and frantically running all over our home VERY distressed. It was at this time that the vet informed us it was likely burning and itching inside of him, despite not warning us about that. I went to grab him and bring him back to the couch so I could hold him and she did the same thing again, causing the same reaction. By the time I got ahold of him and brought him back to the couch again to hold him in my arms he was so sedated he was basically already gone. Completely limp and comatose. I tried my best to position him on my lap on the couch while she did the lethal injection, but at that point he was pretty much gone. So his last moments were spent in pain, burning and itching, crying and confused, and running to find somewhere to hide. It did not feel humane and did not bring us any sort of peace about the already impossible decision. We are both heartbroken because he was truly so innocent and sweet and we went out of our way to try to ensure his final moments were filled with peace and dignity like he deserved, but instead we watched him pass in a state of fear and terror. I'm still a bit in shock over how it all went down, but I wanted to share this feedback for anyone considering going the same route. Respectfully, I would look elsewhere.
