If you're walking down the main drag in the Dells and want to escape the polished resort traps for…read moresomething with actual character, pull open the door to this place. Just be ready to squeeze in The decor is the first thing you notice. The walls and ceiling are practically plastered with local apparel, and for whatever reason, there's a heavy monkey theme going on with all the gear. It gives the place a great, unpretentious, classic Wisconsin dive bar vibe. The menu keeps it simple: standard, no-nonsense bar food. We're talking burgers, baskets, and fried sides. Service was surprisingly snappy given that it was shoulder-to-shoulder at the bar. If you want a quiet, intimate dinner, this isn't it. But if you want cold drinks, killer curds, and a vibrant crowd, it's easily a solid four-star stop on the strip. I'd definitely grab a beer here again. the burgers claimed that they were world famous but topping your burgers is a little strange, they charge 25 cents for tomatoes and lettuce

The drinks however fell short. My hubby got an old fashioned and we'll see the photo of the pink concoction he got that tasted like cinnamon. Maybe it's a regional thing but he's an avid old fashioned drinker and well it was like nothing we've had before. We then ordered monk-aritas to take the place and those tasted like pure sweet and sour. They had a good looking beer list so probably should have went that way. Food was great though- no complaints there.

A Master Class in How to Lose Regular Customers…read more We've eaten here four times. Until now it was always fine -- not great, not terrible -- but usually saved by really good servers. This last visit? Not so much. Our server vanished almost immediately (except for one heroic soda refill). Meals were dropped by a runner and we were never checked on again -- despite the restaurant being nearly empty on a frigid Friday with more staff than customers, we still couldn't seem to get helped. I eventually had to go find the manager. In a place this slow, he could have easily gone table to table. He did not. My friend's chicken sandwich was inedible: gnarly, tendon-heavy, and made incorrectly after requesting almost everything removed (none of it was removed). My institutional burger and fries were a snore. They offered to remake my friend's meal to go. Out came... just a burger. No fries. No sides. Just vibes. Finding the manager on the way out and bringing up our issues: multiple disappearances, an attempted discount after she'd already paid cash, and finally a handful of dollar bills shoved into her hand with "I took care of it." He never really asked to resolve my complaints but at least I had something to eat. Final thoughts: * Food: increasingly mediocre * Service: vanished * Management: improvisational * Fries: missing in action The only reason we kept coming back was good servers. This time we had neither. We won't be returning.

Ate here on NYE 2025 looking for that authentic Wisconsin "supper club" feel. I've been to a dozen…read more"supper clubs", and I'm still not sure what is supposed to differentiate it from a restaurant. That's all it is. A restaurant. You order your food, they bring it to you, you eat it, you leave. Which is fine. But the mystique in the name escapes me. On that note, at this allegedly renown "supper club" which we made reservations for because it was NYE, the disappointment began with walking in the door. There was a line out the door to approach the host stand, with no guidance as to whether everyone in line had a reservation and was checking in or whether they were just trying to get a table. The two 60+ year old women working it were clearly exasperated, flustered, and had zero efficiency or command of the situation. It was like it was their first night working there, although I doubt this to be the case. At one point the loud-mouthed single mom with her entourage of single-mom daughters announced loudly that she was "going to get sh!t done, because that's what I do!" Well despite the fact that she was a classless pig, it worked. All she had to do was bark at the hostess and she was whisked away to a table. Finally I was able to check in, at this point THEY (not me) were over 20 minutes past my reservation time. They said they'd seat me shortly. Another 15 minutes passed before we were seated. In the meantime, they had an old (80+ years old) crooner walking the lounge singing with his wireless mic accompanied by a man playing keyboard. He was a sweet old man, and he needs to retire. For good. If he needs the money, I understand. But his voice was about as good as his eyesight. Embers should not have scheduled him as the "entertainment". There is no ATM in Embers, and although I always carry cash I had used the last $20 in my wallet prior to our arrival. I walked to the other "supper club" across the street (Del Bar), used their ATM to get cash, and returned to tip the god-awful but well-intended singer and his musician - but they were packing up. It was 3 hours before midnight. Pretty early to stop the music. I then reminded the hostess that I was still alive, and she led us to a "booth" in the "lounge". This bar is the stuff of 1950's Vegas, and hasn't been cleaned or painted since then. The "booth" they sat the 3 of us in was like an RV dining booth - barely big enough for my average male build on one side, and not fitting my adult wife and daughter (both petite) on the other. There was a cocktail tray sitting on the top of the backrest, which the hostess apparently wasn't going to remove. Additionally, we were now almost in the playing area of the musician - who was packing up. So we are supposed to sit here while he winds his wires 3 feet from us and lugs out keyboards, stands, etc. The hostess fled before I had made up my mind that this was unacceptable - which was clear, but my family was starving and I was considering walking the fine line of "at least we'll eat now." Turns out, I didn't. I was so enraged that they sat us in an RV booth while the band disassembled that I went to the host stand and told her we'd wait for a table not in steerage class. Despite probably having a young grandparent on the Titanic she didn't understand the reference. I spelled it out more clearly when a drunk middle aged male interrupted and demanded to know why there was a 20% gratuity added to his bill, and she pointed to the fine print on the NYE "special" menu that spelled it out. Then he wanted to argue about why they calculate the tip after tax, and she explained that's Wisconsin law. Finally I told him to wait until I'm done before he does his taxes at the host stand, and he shut up. The hostess then found another table for us, in a room that was dated and crowded. We acquiesced. Once dinner arrived, my wife had average filet mignon and below average lobster tail. I had their "special" ribs that are supposed to be world-famous, and they were about a 3 of 5 stars. Slightly smokey flavor, cooked well, slight bit of char, and a good basic sauce. But not much meat. Clearly the House of Embers was looking to be the House of 1000% Profit Margin on NYE. My daughter's meal was so lacking I can't even remember what it was. I realize that this review focuses more on the "experience" than the food, but Yelp asks "how would you rate your experience?" Well, the experience was bad. With the perspective that I have some nerve narrating first-world problems while most of the world would love to have my "bad" experience, I'm addressing it for what it is: I paid for one thing, I got another. And the "other" was a big disappointment. Next time I'll try the Del Bar and hope for better.

We sat out on the patio which has a nice view of the water. It feels set back away even though it's right off a busy road. I tried the watermelon margarita and my partner had don Julio on the rocks. It comes in a shaker with fresh lime juice. Excellent choice! I'd recommend giving it a try if you like tequila! The watermelon margarita was very sweet, next time I'd go for their original margarita instead. We had the chips and guacamole. Shrimp and veggie quesadilla, which tasted really fresh and good. This was our afternoon snack so we didn't dig much deeper into the menu but I'd say this place is worth a visit if you want a cute patio, and a good drink! Especially if you happen to be across the street at mini golf. The mini golf score book has a coupon on the back of one of the pages for a buy one get one drink!

We ordered a smothered steak burrito and it came out incorrectly made. However the waiter quickly brought it back to have the cooks correct it. Then when it came back out as you notice in the picture, there was no steak in it. I brought it up to the mangers attention and she quickly resolved it by comping both steak burritos and personally ordering me a quesadilla to go. The margarita was solid. And the atmosphere was nice.

The bar is not a big place but it was inviting and friendly. Took a little while before the waitress came over to our table to let us know it would be about an hour wait. We were fine since we could tell by all the cars in the area there wasn't going to be a less crowded. We were given a menu for Friday fish fries which is exactly what we wanted. We all ordered the 3 piece hand breaded cod which was only $11.50! You had a choice of baked potato or fries, Cole slaw or cottage cheese and you got a warm dinner roll with cinnamon butter on the side (regular butter was on the table). They were out of baked potatoes so we each had fries with the Cole slaw. Everything was delicious and you absolutely can't beat the price. We will be back.

The fish was awesome, some of the best I've had,and needless to say I ate all of it.We also noticed the $price, too,$11.95,very,very reasonable for the Dells area.We now have another great option close by.It was a nice & clean place, and if the rest of the menu is as good as the Fish fry, we'll definitely be back.Again only reason it's not 5 stars was the fries and tougher time getting additional drinks. Stay away from the Dells prices and long long waits, drive a few minutes away to Lyndon Station, it's we'll worth it,and less expensive.
