I don't usually write reviews, but here we go. Came by on a Saturday night after finding this place on yelp with a 4 star rating. Walked in around 8PM(1 hour before closing). A young man greeted me, but I thought it was a customer because he was just wearing athletic clothing(gym shorts, sneakers, T-shirt). Told us to choose a table when there was just one table available. After seating, it took about 5 minutes before we got menus. In that 5 minutes we observed the restaurant. A very loud restaurant, especially because most of the noise isn't coming from customers, but rather the staff. The sushi chefs purposely squeezing squeeze-bottles to produces gargle sounds. Servers having conversations with the chefs from across the room. Then I realized why it took so long to get menus. It was just one girl running the show. I think I over heard the staff calling her name "Thuy". I ordered the sushi and sashimi with one classic roll and fried gyozas. The gyozas were just any other dumplings you can find in restaurant supply companies. It came drenched in the soy sauce and vinegar mix. When serving fried food, the point is to have it crispy. Pouring sauce on it just ruins the point of it being fried. The sushi is another story. Typically in a sushi platter you are given different fishes with different flavor profiles. On my platter there were two peppered fishes. One of those peppered fishes was an "end" piece. The end pieces are typically trimmed off and not to be served because it's too much pepper in one bite. I don't know if the chef was knowledgeable in this or just lazy because it was almost time to close and didn't want to unwrap another fish to cut a better slice. On to the next, my classic roll. I got the spicy salmon roll. I'm going to say this chef to chef, please taste your food before serving it. The spicy salmon mix they had in the roll was extremely overpowering with togarashi(shichimi). To top it off, they overly covered the rice on the roll with it as well. Every bite was gritty like eating spicy sand. I was doing my best to finish the food because I don't like to waste no matter the quality, but I had to stop because my girlfriend pointed out something. Staff are eating in work areas with their bare hands. 1. Personal food is not allowed in areas where food is prepared. That's part of all food handlers licenses, if any of them have one. 2. Servers do not need to be back their cracking jokes, talking loudly, eating food. 3. Proper hair coverage is required back there, so again servers should not be back there without proper hair coverage. 4. Your fish display fridge should always be closed. Open, get what ever you need and close it right away. The fridge will lose its cold temperature cause the fish to grow bacteria and go bad. I wouldn't give you a One-Star rating because the food isn't inedible. Yet. read more

This place has amazing sushi. I've been so used to restaurants stuffing their rolls with rice that I was almost insulted that it was not the case. But as soon as the rolls went in my mouth, I realized what a sham of a life I've been living. So much fish - fresh fish at that! The sushi chefs are young, but their amazing taste shows through their craftmenship. They have a roll on the menu called the King Kong with deep fried salmon chips on top. I've been pescatarian for a few months because of a health-condition, and that is the closest to bacon I've been in a disgusting amount of time. The udon (nabeyaki) was really good, and the broth itself is worth the price. The service was great and I overall enjoyed the experience there. I expect this place to be a regular haunt for me and the missus, and we've already made plans to visit every time we're in Houston. I ordered sushi for pick up. They completely messed up my order. I asked for cut rolls not hand rolls. They also charged me more then what it was priced on the menu. The quality of the sushi is not good. The seaweed smelt really bad and definitely wasn't good quality. I asked for tempura and spicy mayo on top and they only put mayo. Living in Cypress doesn't give you a great selection of sushi places, but on my way home from the post office I decided to try Edojin with my brother. It's located in a small little strip, not too hard to find. It's a decent sized place with ample seating along with seating the sushi bar, and is clean on the inside. We were greeted by the waitress who took our drink orders almost immediately and gave us a decent amount of time to look over the menu. We came during Happy hour which runs from 3-7 and they have a decent amount of their sushi on the HH menu. Their menu off HH is also fairly priced for the portions, and not pricey at all. As far as the sushi goes, I ordered a few pieces of the salmon sushi, the soft shell crab roll, the crunch roll and some other specialty roll. The portions of the sushi were decent, but the seaweed seemed stale and almost rubbery. The salmon was decent, I've had fresher cuts elsewhere but I guess you're sacrificing some of the superior quality for the convenience of not having to drive into the loop. I have to say this is one of the best Sushi bars I've ever been in my life. The food is absolutely superb. The fish is handpicked by the Chef Luke who is a true old school artist in the arts and craft of Asian fusion. The delicate presentation of each plate and the combination of flavors and colors and aromas tells you how much care and respect for food this guys have.
