We called the two local chimney services listed here on yelp to get quotes. The first service was great, but the fellow hurt his back and couldn't do our job. Ed's secretary and I played phone tag for a week or so. When we finally caught up with each other she was very efficient. Ed and his employee (he was never introduced to us) came over, took one look at our chimney, knew exactly what we needed and quoted us a reasonable price. I signed the paperwork and he said he'd be back in about a week when the part came in. Today he and his employee showed up. The employee installed our shiny new stainless steel chimney cap and we're all set for the ridiculous winter Steve Pool and Jeff Renner say we're all headed for. It couldn't have been easier. It could only have been more pleasant if it were free or came with a free pedicure. I will be recommending Ed's Chimney Service and Repairs to all of my friends, family, and the whole damn internets. read more

I had Ed's Chimney service out to clean my fireplace and chimney and they were very responsive, professional and reasonably priced. When I called initially to inquire about their services I left a message because it was outside of their office hours. They called me back within 24 hours and we scheduled an appointment for the following week. Contrary to a few of the Yelp reviews I read about scheduling issues they were definitely on-time -- technically they even showed up EARLY for the appointment! The sweep process itself was quick and they made sure my house stayed clean --plus they gave me some tips about how best to maintain a safe fireplace between sweeps. I highly recommend calling these guys. We had someone come out for a free estimate after having a poor experience with Pristine Sweeps. I'm happy to report I was never pressured to do more work than necessary, in fact we were advised to NOT do any costly work as we had been quoted/recommended from another company. I got a written and verbal quote from them to inspect and clean the chimney at a house i was working on. I asked if the ash traps could be cleaned too. She quoted me a price on the phone for that. Oscar showed up, inspected and said that the chimney didn't need to be cleaned- fine. He said cleaning the ash traps would be an additional estimate, not included in the $100+ charge to clean and inspect a chimney. He left me an estimate for $375 to clean the ash traps, what i thought was an exorbitant amount for a job not that tough. We ended up doing it ourselves in about 3 hours. IF servicing the full chimney is not in their menu, they shouldn't call it Chimney Service. Basically, they quoted a price that said, "we don't want to do this work". read more

I had a chimney that was falling apart, cracks everywhere and some joints already without mortar, black soot all over what once was nice sand stone. Went with Ed's Chimney Repair because they appeared most knowledgable at the initial inspection and their cost estimate. They estimated 3 days work, planned that well and with time to get extra materials as needed. Very friendly, professional, and very experienced guy (Bill) did the job and the result is most impressive: my chimney looks like new! Work looks great, clean sandstone (no soot), fixed old flashing, cleaned up the work area (driveway, roof). Steve did a good job with the work and was polite. Schedule slipped slightly but that wasn't a huge problem. But even though the work only took about half the hours they expected, they wouldn't give any relief from the bid price. The work ended up costing about $200 an hour, even after subtracting materials etc. Glad the work is done. read more

Really responsive to Yelp messages and I scheduled my appointment that way. Pricing was reasonable and as I'm somewhat of a newbie when it comes to fireplaces I asked some dumb questions which they answered kindly. Steve called on our appointment day and said there were some cancellations so he could come earlier which worked for us. He was very efficient and clean. Glad we had it done because he said he wasn't sure our chimneys had ever been cleaned based on the amount of stuff in there (house was built in '63!). Would definitely use again! read more

Don't trust these people! They were no-shows TWICE for their "free" estimate. I wasted an entire day waiting for them. When I complained, they said they didn't need to come by after all, and then proceeded to quote me DOUBLE the general price the owner gave me. Without even looking! After checking around, I found a REPUTABLE chimney sweep for about half the price. They obviously don't care about their customers, so why would they care about your house not having a chimney fire? read more

For our service this company was firing well on all cylinders (communication and service). I even received a call asking if they could come earlier than the scheduled time. We had an "easy" cleaning to do at my grandmother's condo given a 'straight shot' on the chimney flue so he was done within 30 min (shop vac with a long tube extension) and he advised what logs not to burn for preventive maintenance. The cost did not exceed the maximum estimate, in fact, the actual was about $35 less than the max. read more

We had Ed's Chimney Service & Repair out for crack repair and to fix the top of the chimney. We also had some waterproof paint put on the outside of the chimney and area between our garage doors. The chimney was white and we were painting it black so it was difficult to cover. Oscar was awesome during this whole process. I don't offer many reviews, but I find it necessary to provide a word of caution with Ed's Chimney Service. As we were looking for an option for chimney repair, I found Ed's Chimney on Yelp. I spoke to their office manager who is very pleasant and set up an initial visit. But, the ensuing 2 months were a disaster. They did not show up to 5 different appointments, or showed up without the proper equipment. On the final day that they were going to repair the chimney, they called to say that the repairman would not be available that day and asked if the following day would work. I again took the day off to be home and again, he didn't show up. I called to let the office know and they didn't seem overly surprised. So, I decided to move on and find a different service. There are quite a few details that i will leave out of this review, which give me serious concern for this organization, but i don't find it appropriate to lay them out in this forum. I would just say that you should use a good deal of caution, if you decide to work with them. read more

I have been a client of Ed's for several years. Ed and Co (Shout out to Michael in the office) are fantastic to work with. We have a great rapport, and an awesome relationship. Unfortunately, recently they had some turnover (which is always a hassle, especially in the trades) but they were entirely up front and honest. I was rescheduled and (as another poster mentioned) Ed came out and did the work. The man went home that day covered in soot. I have been a cheerleader for Ed and Co, but after seeing the dedication to customer service and the willingness to get the project wrapped up with this last project, Ed's Chimney will be my first call. Called for a chimney inspection because my fireplace wasn't drawing very well. Oscar found some problems with the chimney, explained why they were problems, and gave me an itemized bid. I called back a week later and scheduled most of the work, though not all due to a small wallet. Oscar did all the stuff, working around my schedule and very kindly tidied up a few things while he was up on the roof. When I made the appointment last week i said "If something comes up, that's OK, just call me and let me know." I guess that as too much to ask for. Buyer Beware! Ordered a chimney cover form Ed's and when it finally arrived it was mis-measured and way too big. Ed said if I didn't like it and pay for it immediately he would come back & take it away period! Yesterday's 40 mph wind required that I hire another contractor to secure the cover as it was partially blown off. read more

This is the best chimney company around!! I just bought my first house and I had to get our chimneys inspected. I called 2 companies and the first one I called showed up late and there estimate was very expensive. Then Ed's chimney service came out and they guy was friendly and what I feel was being honest, took the time to show me what they were talking about. We needed to have a damper installed on our chimney and Oscar did a great job for us. They had to reschedule a couple of times due to the delay in delivering the part, but were very prompt in letting me know and getting back to me. He was scheduled to come the day it snowed, and came anyway to see if he could get on the roof. When he clearly couldn't do it safely, he promised to come back on Monday (next business day) and showed up early and got it done quickly. We had Ed's Chimney come to clean our flue. Oscar did a great job and then he gave us a bid for chimney repairs that we knew we were WAY overdue in taking care of. We got a second bid from a company who told us we needed to remove both of our stone chimney's down to the roof line and have them rebuilt which would have cost over $6,000.00. We decided to let Oscar do the repairs for a fraction of that . They are very clean and solid now and should last many, many years.....they look great. Oscar was very professional and obviously cared about his work. My understanding is that Ed is Oscar's father and Oscar has been working on chimney's basically his whole life so he knows what he's doing. read more

Ed's Chimney Service was great. The technician came on time, checked out both of our fireplaces, inspected and cleaned the chimneys. He determined that we needed a higher flue on one chimney to prevent the downdraft into the other that had been causing problems. He came back the next day with the needed part and completed the work very professionally. The price was very reasonable. I called Ed's for what seemed to be a slightly clogged chimney. They were booked 4 weeks out, but I said let's schedule it. The guy that helped me on the phone suggested a couple things to try that he thought might alleviate the problem without them having to clean it. I haven't tried them yet, but any time a business suggests something that will take business away from them, it's a business I will use repeatedly and refer to whenever possible. read more

Will definitely be calling Ed the next time I need some chimney work done. We needed some rather minor work done which he (and his helper) knocked out in a day, then returned the following day to apply the water seal. It was everything I would have hoped for in a service call - they showed up, did the work, and cleaned up, all at a very reasonable cost (I had gotten several estimates for the work and his was by far the best).
