Scheduled via email to have them come out for a quote for repointing our chimney. We exchanged several emails establishing the plan -- they would come out while we were at work and then email us the quote the next. That day came and went, as did about 3-4 more days -- no email from them with the quote. Emailed them back again to ask if they could send us the quote, or did they need to reschedule because they hadn't made it out, or what? No response at all this time. Totally ghosted us. Cool. Bought a house this year and had Oscar out to inspect/clean the chimney. I wasn't sure what to expect, but Oscar rocks. Like other reviewers, I had to schedule the appointment out 6 weeks or so, but they had a couple cancellations and were able to get me in about 3 weeks earlier than scheduled. Great customer service. Ed's Chimney came out and had a look, let us know what all had to get done, what all should get done, and what all didn't need to get done and why... for a super reasonable price. Such a great job! I had to make an appointment 6 weeks in advance because of the season. I always hesitate with that because I am never really sure if the company will remember the appointment or have to change things last minute. Honesty, I am surprised I picked these guys since they don't have a website, just a Yelp page and Facebook page. Glad I took the chance because these guys are great. The reason why I like this company is because they were completely honest with us. Our fireplace was backpuffing something fierce....so Oscar came out and did an inspection. He explained that given the width of our fireplace, the height of the chimney, and the fact that our house was on the side of a hill, there was a chance that our chimney was always going to backpuff. But he said a cleaning was worth a shot, since it looked like it hadnt been cleaned for 10 years. He left that first day with instructions to try a couple fires, and to give him a call if it didnt work. After a few fires, it was clear that the cleaning hadn't fixed the problem. We called them up again and he recommended a smoke guard and flue extender, reminding us once again that it might not fix the problem. But we trusted them enough to try their recommendation again. We've been using Ed's for a few years and I've never had any problems until recently. They were supposed to come out a couple weeks ago. Needless to say, the guy has car trouble on the way to our house - can we reschedule? OK, fair enough. My appt was rescheduled for this past Saturday. I received a call on Wednesday asking if I could move my appointment to Friday. Ok. No problem. Friday comes and goes. THEY WERE A NO SHOW. I left 2 messages Friday afternoon and have not heard a peep back. I'm bummed that I have to find a new chimney place. Ed's has always been reliable in the past but not showing up after 2 rescheduled appointments and no call from them is just wrong. UPDATE: Oscar came by and cleaned our chimney FOC. Thanks so much. Why can't all contractors be like Oscar (Ed's son)? I own an old, high maintenance house and called Ed's for a second estimate to repair a leaky chimney. Oscar came out as promised and spent much time evaluating the damage. He described the necessary work in detail and showed me photos that he'd taken up on the roof to illustrate the problem. He educated me about masonry and chimney construction and provided a diagnosis and fix that seemed so much more substantive and detailed than the first bidder, who is reputable but just gave it a quick glance and told me I needed new flashing (which would not have resolved the problem as the mortar needed replacing, as well). I ended up hiring Oscar to repair both my chimneys and remortar some areas of the house's stone exterior. Oscar started the work on schedule and kept me apprised of all work and schedule adjustments. The repair was done professionally and with much attention to detail. He was mindful of our privacy, safety and desire to protect our garden, too. I plan to have Oscar back to restore our outdoor fireplace and re-do some masonry work done by another well-meaning but less experienced contractor. High praise! read more

Update: 5/8/15 - The company called me the following Monday. Apparently the original person forgot to put my appointment in the books and the phones close at noon on Friday. They apologized profusely for their mistake and offered to give me 50% off the service. I went ahead and agreed. Although the person coming was a bit late, he did call me in advance to inform me of the situation. He also did a great job not only cleaning the chimney but offered up to fix a few things he saw could have been improved, like the flute pull. I made an appointment with Ed's service for a C&I (chimney sweep and inspection). The service was going to occur on a Friday and I took the afternoon off. It is now Saturday and I still have not heard back from them. No apologies, no excuses... That's very BAD business and completely unacceptable. Called a handful of local chimney repair guys as the top of ours was starting to crumble and needed a new cap. Ed's was the fastest to come out, bid and offer a date quickly for when the repairs could be complete. Of course doing my due diligence I waited for a few more bids, but at the end, Ed's was the most fairly priced and most detailed work order. Bill and his crew came out, dealt with our obnoxious labrador (who we love dearly), and quickly did a fantastic job getting things back looking good. Oscar showed up 10 minutes early and got to work looking at our chimney to see if a sweeping was necessary and to provide an estimate for that service. He ended up doing basically a full inspection at no charge and educated me on many things about my stove and chimney, while providing a very reasonable quote to perform those services. He was straightforward and actually told us we didn't need our chimney cleaned at all, but there were a couple of other issues we needed to take care of before starting a fire in our stove. I decided to do the work myself as I am an avid DIYer but his opinion and recommendations were very informative. I will definitely be turning to Oscar for any stove or chimney work that I am not able to tackle myself. read more

I called Ed's Chimney to get my chimney cleaned and inspected. We had not had it done since buying our house nearly 3 years ago, and I had noticed significant creosote buildup. I really wanted to make sure that it was ready for cozy fires in the winter. I am so glad that I chose Ed's Chimney. 1. They responded very quickly to my request for an appointment. 2. Steve was quick and efficient in his inspection and cleaning. 3. My front door bangs when you close it, and Steve tightened the hinge while he was there, which was pretty much the best customer service I could have expected. My fireplace is ready to burn, and my front door doesn't drag and bang. I am VERY happy with their service, and will call them again next year when I am getting the house ready for winter. read more

Had them come out to look at our chimney/fireplace, which we'd never used -- just wanted to make sure everything looked to be in good repair and didn't need cleaning before we started using it. They came out when they said they would, were professional and friendly, took a look, and gave us the all-clear. Since it was just an estimate, they didn't even charge anything for coming out. I called on Ed's for the first time to get an estimate when we could not stop the cold breeze coming through our chimney. Oscar arrived on time for the appointment, showed me how the damper chain was not pulled all the way and where it needed to be for the damper to close. He said the chimney did not really need cleaning yet. He provided some great info I needed re our fireplace and chimney - and did not charge us for solving the wind problem since he was just called to give an estimate. Without question, Ed's is my go to for chimney and masonry work. In the office, Mike is efficient with scheduling and always courteous. When there are delays (like weather or other unforeseeable events), they always call to let you know and confer with you about what the new plan will be. On site, Oscar and the other guys are thorough, tidy (or as tidy as possible- it's messy work!), and do an excellent job. On top of all of that, they are affordable. I met with Oscar today to see what could be done about a broken damper for our chimney. Oscar was completely honest in his evaluation that to fix the broken damper, it would cost a lot of money and the return in terms would not be worth the investment. Oscar was so honest and was thinking of all the solutions that were reasonable based on his experience. I unfortunately wasted Oscar's time as there were no reasonable solutions to my problem. We had our chimney flashing redone as well as some cracks patched. Our chimney is part of the face of our home and next to the front door. I was dissatisfied in the quality of work. We had to have the workers come back twice due to a really unsightly job on the flashing (it was twice as thick as the original, not fitted well, and they chose black which did not match anything). When we called the owner about the job we were unhappy with, he was beyond gracious and understanding, and was great to work with. He immediately offered solutions and said they would make sure we were satisfied. I thought that was great customer service! Upon the workers returning to make the flashing shorter and fit tighter, and brown, they cracked a front facing corner brick and said there was nothing they can do about it except mortar on top of it. In general, I think the owner is great but not so sure about the employees doing the job. The communication from them on our options and what to expect was poor. I don't think their quality of work is very good, and wish they would have done it correctly the first time. read more
