Parking: There are about 5 parking spots in front of the restaurant, and then there are 10 spots in the lot across the street. We were lucky enough to get one of them, otherwise I don't know where people park. The wait: We arrived around 9:30am on a Saturday morning and went inside to put our name on the list. We were told the wait would be around 20mins but it ended up being wait was around 30-40mins. COVID-19: They were only allowed to have 40 diners inside, so there were some empty tables but they couldn't let more people inside. You were required to wear masks to enter. Food: Everything on the menu looked yummy! All the plates were huge! We got egg skillets which were so large I could barely eat half of one. The veggie benedict was also delicious! Been meaning to stop in for sometime but could not get a place to park even though there is a lot across the street. Glad I was able to park today and I tried an unusual omelette they had on menu - Brie and artichoke - which was very good. Fast, friendly service. Will be back. read more

COME TO DINNER HERE!!! Obviously the breakfast is incredible but the dinner was insanely good. And it was super well priced. We got the chicken sandwich, pot pie, ribs, burger, and chicken and waffles. Everything was amazing especially the chicken dishes and ribs. Service and food was excellent! I ordered the chicken strips, they were hand-breaded organic chicken cooked perfectly. My husband had the French dip that comes with grilled onions and mushrooms( optional) and he loved it. My MIL had the burger which was fresh burger patty and had lots of fresh crispy lettuce and thousand island dressing. Lots of breakfast options we'd like to try sometime as we're from out of town but would definitely come back! read more

A great place to have breakfast! We stopped here as others in our party had been here previously. I got the Farmer's Skillet and I would definitely get it again. Perfect portion and great fuel for the day. Egg River Cafe checks all the boxes. It's hard to park nearby but I found a spot in the church lot across the street. It was very busy but I was seated quickly and received lovely service. Though I'm sure they do a brisk tourist trade the place maintains a down home vibe. Nice funky decor, comfortable atmosphere. I was happy to see chilaquiles served with my steak and eggs. Steak was grilled with great seasoning: peppery, spicy but not too hot. Good coffee, friendly staff. I would definitely return. I suggest trying for an off hour as it looks like it could be packed at the regular breakfast/lunch times. read more

I would imagine this cafe gets really busy. It's not huge, but early on a weekday morning getting a seat was no issue. I'm not a southern raised boy, but I'm always tempted by waffles and fried chicken. That combo strikes a chord in me, and I was really tempted. One went by to a different table, and it looked amazing. Another item I always want to try is a restaurants biscuits and gravy. And Egg River has it on their menu, but alas it has to wait. Instead, I went for the chile relleno breakfast tacos and they didn't disappoint. This chorizo stuffed pepper with eggs in corn tortillas hit the spot. With a blend of creamy and heat it was satisfying to say the least. They've impressed me enough that I will return because honestly most everything on the menu looks tantalizing. read more

Great service, good portion sizes and lovely views! Went here to celebrate a friends birthday brunch and had a wonderful time. Mood is casual and friendly. It was nice that there is a parking lot across from the restaurant as they are in a busy road. Place was busy. Nice selection of drinks and food. Eggs made to perfection! Terrible. Eggs were so pale they look like they are carton eggs. Over cooked. The hash browns were crisp on the outside but not done on the inside. Son's chorizo burrito had like an egg (or like a half cup of carton eggs), they didn't bring our toast. No one checked on us the entire time. The coffee was so bitter that my husband who drinks it black put 3 sugars in to make palpable. Overall this place is overpriced and overrated. read more

There was a little wait on a Sunday morning, understandably. Only about 20 mins for 2 people. I got 2 blueberry pancakes, 2 scrambled eggs & sausage. Fantastic food. Life changing blueberry pancake! It had been about 10 years since I've been here as a kid. Was traveling through the area and stopped by for a quick bite. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place was very clean and had a homey vibe to it like i remembered.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu was full of so many options, everything looked so delicious. What a wonderful find! We booked a room at the hotel up the road so this place was within walking distance. The food was plentiful and delicious. Lots of traditional breakfast choices as well as local favorites like chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, Chile relent breakfast tacos. The first day, I had the their signature dish of "Country Short Rib Hash" which was plentiful and delicious, covered in country gravy. Tender chunks of meat served over their house potatoes. The next day I tried their western skillet with a side if biscuits and gravy which was also very delicious. Very good tasting gravy, cooked and seasoned properly! But the best thing about this place? The people. I came in late morning during the weekend rush and was greeted with sincere smiles. I came in another morning, just after opening and the same smiles were there. The three young gentlemen that served us coffee during this time, were as polite as can be and made sure we were taken care of. Overall, next time I am in HR I would definitely come back here, not only for the good food, but for the friendly warm smiles. read more

Deducting a star because they gave me debit card to the wrong table. Their heads just weren't in the game today. Build your own omelette: sausage, spinach, mushroom, onion with home fries. Huge omelette very filling and tasty. The potatoes were underdone but flavorful. Build your own scramble: sausage, spinach, mushroom, onion with hash browns and gf toast. The toast was moldy but they fixed it immediately. It's not their fault. Franz often sends out moldy GF bread. The scramble was huge and tasty. If you're looking for a very flavorful sausage, this isn't it. It's good, but it's very basic. The hash browns were the star of the plate for me. They were cooked to perfection. read more

Parking can be difficult but it's Hood River and space is tight. I have gotten lucky and found parking across the street in the lot. Always greets warmly by the staff when I enter. Comfy booths and a great menu with a lot of choices. I chose the Chile relleno breakfast tacos and they were delicious. Sauce on the side was perfect. Would definitely get again! read more

The Food: We were super hungry and ordered... - Veggie Scramble: It came as scrambled eggs with lots of mushrooms and green vegetables with a side of fruit and hashbrowns. The taste was 'meh', it wasn't something that satisfied a hungry palate and the fresh fruit did not look fresh - Country Fried Steak with Gluten-free toast and fruit: This was a tasty item and the toast was good too, the fruit was not fresh at all - Coffee: we were only lucky enough to get one serving of coffee despite asking for refills. The first and only cup was good IV. Service, Ambience and Charges: - As soon as we entered, we were asked to seat ourselves. The person clearing the table asked if we wanted to drink something... I don't think she was the right person or was paying attention.. we asked for Coffee and Heated Creamer along with water... She brought the coffee and water, requested her to bring sugar and splenda and she only brought splenda and asked her for sugar again, didn't bring any spoons to stir the coffee and had to ask for those, she did bring the creamer but it was refrigerated in small commercial containers... Pluses: Egg scramble was so delicious! Lots of wait staff asking if all was well without being intrusive. Great ambiance. Cute atmosphere. Seated immediately. Very courteous employees - may have been the highlight of the meal. Minuses: Remember, folks, this is not a coffee house. The coffee was bitter and acidic. My toast was quasi-toasted. My over medium eggs were too soft. Kinda spendy. Hash browns arrived tepid - the first bite was tough, but crunchy, and seemed coated with grease (but not rancid grease). Found this on Yelp and decided to try it. Parked and the place was quiet, didn't look like there was many people, forgot this was a little town and a weekday. Was quickly seated by a very friendly waitress. Tried their home made corn beef hash and eggs, it was amazing. Great taste, eggs were cooked perfectly and it was a very nice portion. Left satisfied and full. Was hoping I wouldn't fall asleep during my drive. A couple near me ordered some pancakes and that looked great too!! Maybe next time. The place has a nice little small town feel, it was really quite nice, quiet, clean and a very friendly feel to it. Tables were getting wiped down, utensils were clean as well. I did talk to a few customers at the job site and they said that this place is usually busy on weekends and during the peak season. Come early, get a seat and just enjoy the ambiance, food and service!!!! read more

Place is one of my absolute favorite go to places when I am in hood river. The food is amazing. Always well cooked thought out and fresh. Every time I go I try something new. I had a cup of joe and the country short rib hash as shown in the photos. Staff was extremely busy and still performed well. Some things were slower than normal but that's to be expected with the crazy times. Anyways go enjoy egg river! read more

Tried this place on a leap of faith from the Yelp reviews. I was particularly interested in one that mentioned the chillaquilles. Ordered them and they were delicious! I prefer my egg on too hard cooked and not runny. They got it perfect. Friendly service and a good cup of coffee rounded it all up. Fun atmosphere for morning breakfast. read more

My husband and I come here every once in a while. I'm not a fan but he really likes the biscuits and gravy. Says it's the best in town. The service has always been okay. It has always felt like the staff had better things to do. Recently we went in and were helped by Estela and Jazmin. They were so sweet and friendly. If the food had been bad their customers service would have made up for it. I'm glad that Egg River is employing cheerful and welcoming staff now. It's nice to finally be greeted with a smile. I really enjoyed the food here. Great break lunch place. Wonderful breakfast Latin dishes. The staff is very friendly and young and fun. Lots of energy and a phenomenal chef making authentic dishes. Egg River Cafe On 5/18/22, I had breakfast at Egg River Cafe in Hood River, Oregon. They serve breakfast and lunch. It is my favorite Hood River spot for breakfast. I think it's much better than Bette's Place, which is another local favorite. In addition to having great Eggs Benedict ($13.95), I appreciated that they gave me cream for my coffee ($3.50) at no extra charge. And the service is always excellent. My server, Laura, was very warm and friendly. So was the nice young woman who accommodated my request for a booth with a window. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant, the food, and the people who work there. Highly Recommended!!! read more

AH MAZ ING - service was quick and attentive (and man, do they do business!). You cannot beat the ambience of this beautiful slice of Americana-road-side dining. And the FOOD was just next level. We trusted the Mole and Empanada French Toast specials, then the house special, Cinnamon French Toast. I'd buy this restaurant in a heartbeat. Until then, I HIGHLY recommend. read more

This place is super loud with a big family and kids. Please avoid if you want to have a peaceful breakfast. First of all, we were told 5-10 mins wait but end up staying for 20 mins. A table we finally received was between two family with kids. A kid was kicking a seat from the back on one side and another kid was making a noise hitting a clear plastic wall with a fork on another side. We had to sit and wait for our breakfast about a half hr under this uncomfortable conditions. Coffee was super dark and tasted bad but not only that we didn't get water at the beginning and I got a heart pain from the caffeine I had never had from drinking coffee every morning. We asked for water but it didn't come for a while. I ordered a smoke salmon Benedict but the salmon was super salty and over price. We are very upset to this place. read more

I'll give five stars for the bits these folks can control (service/cleanliness), but 3.5 (4 here) for the things they cannot control... my palate. Loved this cafe. It's got the greasy spoon/small town vibe nailed! The service was outstanding and the restaurant was very clean, even while very busy. High marks for all that. The bits I didn't like... unfortunately the food and prices. I ordered the breakfast sampler and my partner got an omelet w/ cubed taters. Out of all the items available in these two orders, the only one I found to be good enough to finish was the pancakes. Those were very good. But the rest of the food was quite bland. Even the sausage seemed to be flavorless. So since I found the food to be so remarkably average, of course I then found the price to be excessive. This is definitely not food that made me happy to have dined out this day. But.... As usual... your mileage may vary. Please do try the place if you're in the area and looking for a lovely little diner. read more

I thought ordering two cocktails and paying for my drinks would be easy, like it is at every bar in town. But the bartender, I mean employee standing behind a bar, asked if I was with the large group. I stated, "yes, I was." Then she proceeded to tell me that the drinks would be on someone's tab. But I showed up late...I don't know what's happening. I don't know who's paying for the "tab". I just wanted to buy two drinks and walk away. But that wasn't allowed at Kickstand. Then another employee walks up and attempts to take my drink order. Super confused, I tell her the employee standing behind the bar just took my drink order. And then we proceeded down the tab conversation again. The second employee said because "we" were a party of 8 or more, I couldn't pay for my own drinks and I they would have to put it on the party's tab. But again, I don't know who owns the tab. If it was the woman having the birthday, I didn't want to add to her bill...on her birthday. Then they suggested I "could just Venmo" the party girl. No! I want to just order two drinks and have Kickstand take my money. Why wouldn't they just take my money?! The place was dead tonight, other than the 5 or so small daycarel families, sitting at their own tables, that made up the "party". I canceled my drink order and walked away out of protest and principal. When asked if I was with the big party, I should have said no I guess. Lesson leaned for next time, if there is a next time. It's a brisk business, so while ordering is counter service style, the tables turnover quickly. When we visited at 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon, there was a small line ahead of us to order, but only around 5 minutes or so after we ordered, several tables cleared out and we were able to sit down. The food took about 15 minutes to arrive. Combo, Vietnamese w/ Pork, Mediterranean w/ Chicken, Salsa ($15.50) - The chips, half moon shaped, seem to be fried in house, being really thick, great for dipping with no breakage, and perfectly crunchy. They have somewhat of an oily sheen on the surface, but aren't overly greasy at all. They aren't salted too heavily and instead seem to be slightly sweetened. The salsa included in this meal is refreshingly tangy and creamy. It's completely mild, though, with no hint of heat whatsoever. The chips easily dip in without getting soggy. The tacos all seem to use the same base - a fried corn tortilla heavily seasoned with a doritos locos-esque spice mixture, then filled with tender basmati rice. I believe they store a bunch of tortillas filled with rice sitting in trays, which can then be grabbed off the shelf to customize to order. That would explain why the shells get completely soggy and why the sauces are all applied on top of the rice rather than below. They are also wrapped in aluminum foil, which allows the rice to basically steam inside the taco shell, creating more sogginess. Overall a disappointing base. The Vietnamese combines fish sauce and banh mi pickles, combined with sweet creamy kewpie mayo drizzled over the rice and thinly sliced cucumbers as a second wall complementing the taco shell. The pickles and cucumber are crunchier than the shell. There are jalapenos but there's no heat at all. The pork is shredded and tender with a somewhat smoky quality, but there's not much included at all, perhaps only a tablespoon or two of meat. It's mostly vestigial against the massive amount of pickles on the top. I'd say the flavors are somewhat similar to a vegetarian banh mi. It's definitely missing in the meat department. There are so many veggies piled onto this taco that things fall out left and right while eating. The Mediterranean includes acidic pickled onions, a slaw lightly dressed in vinaigrette, thinly sliced cucumbers, a bunch of salty feta, and shredded mint leaves. There's some tzatziki drizzle, but not enough to make a huge impact. The chicken is shredded very finely and again not given in enough of a quantity to really do much for the taco. I feel like the chicken is precooked white meat, similar to the chicken in those packaged salads. Combo, Thai w/ Chicken, Tex Mex w/ Shrimp, Queso ($15.50) - The queso is served warm. It's thick and cheesy, tasting like pretty standard queso with again no heat whatsoever despite tiny flecks of red. The Thai includes a red bell pepper, cabbage, and edamame (why edamame?) slaw, lightly dressed in a peanutty and sweet vinegar. On top of the rice is a thicker peanut and ginger drizzle, enough to give some freshness and boost the umami. The overall flavor profile does remind me of an Americanized Pad Thai with mostly sweetness and nuttiness and no tamarind fruity tang. The Tex Mex is interesting. They actually char the corn quite well, so it's sweet and smoky in flavor. They add the same queso as the dip for the chips, then cilantro and then soy bacon crumbles, which I found to be disturbing in texture, almost like crunchy egg shells. They do include three or four pieces of sweet shrimp which aren't overcooked. The seasoning on the taco shells doesn't work for me. The flavors clash with the unique ingredients used in the creative tacos. In addition, I'm so confused why they use the same rice base. I guess it's a cost cutting measure? They add a ton to every taco and it spills out all over the place. They could easily amp up the unique qualities of each taco. For example, cilantro rice for the Tex Mex, Jasmine rice for the Thai, vermicelli for the Vietnamese. It's okay to use rice, but it's just such a boring and uninspired base when they are trying to be so creative with the flavors. It feels like filler used to cheapen up the tacos. I have similar feelings towards the meat. It's the same for every taco, no uniqueness in flavor or texture. The only thing different are the toppings and the slight bit of sauce on top. Just think - for the Vietnamese, sweet lemongrass grilled pork, for the Tex-Mex, lime chile grilled shrimp, etc. Then again there's so little meat included in the first place. Overall I left a little disappointed. It seems to be targeted towards people who want fusion food without straying too far away from Americanized roots. It's just not for me.
