Arguably the best Viet, Thai, and American Chinese in town and all at one location! There are certain consistencies in the world su as, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, etc., plus Egg Roll #1 will be so busy on Saturday that they have to close for at least an hour to get the food restocked, clean the whole place, and give the staff a break to make it through the night. The Pho is always top-flight, the Thai is always on point, and the Chinese superior. The front line is a madhouse at peak times but they handle it with a smile. And that is exactly what I got--a delicious, hot bowl of pho. Specifically, I tried the Pho Dac Biet. This includes rare steak, tripe, and tendon. The meats and noodle were amazing. The broth was phenomenal. It reminded me the first time I had ever tastes pho. Additionally, as usual, the pho came with your standard sides--bean sprouts, slices of jalapeños, lime, and Thai basil. In terms of ambiance and service, this is a no frills place. Clean. Simple. Plenty of room. You get a tray and a number. And the server drops off your food at the table. The cashier and the servers were all friendly. And even at 8:30 at night, this place was hot and happening with customers coming in and lots of to-go orders. For me, I will have to come back. I chose Mongolian Beef, egg drop soup, and 2 pieces of crab Rangoon. I honestly think the lunch special from Hong Kong restaurant in Fountain Square is better. The portion of the entree is much larger and the fried rice tastes better. However if you want soup and an egg roll or crab Rangoon, then go for the lunch special from Egg Roll #1. I really enjoyed the Hu Tieu (egg noodle with shrimp and pork) I got. The portion size was perfect and I liked the broth. They had a large dining area with plenty of seating and the employees were so helpful and nice. They have a large menu with a Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai menu that you order from at the counter up front. I ordered takeout from Egg Roll Number 1 after seeing the hype of the restaurant, which was recently recognized as a top 100 Yelp restaurant of the year. I have no clue how they earned this designation, based off my experience. The servings are very small (particularly the sides of rice, comparing to other standard Chinese takeout places) and lacked much flavor. We ordered the appetizer combination, which was good but nothing special, just a bunch of fried appetizers (including crab Rangoons with barely any filling) and a beef stick that was a little overcooked. My General Tso's chicken was the worst of the order; the chicken was way overcooked and undersauced. My girlfriend's Beef Lo Mein was the best thing that was ordered, though I'll note the beef inside was also overcooked (seeing a theme here?). The pickup process was very difficult as well. I'll cut them some slack that they were very busy on a Saturday night, but the employees didn't do anything to facilitate lines/any formal ordering/picking up process, and the restaurant wasn't laid out in a way for intuitive queuing. It was basically a cluster of people in a free for all, relying on "who do I think was here before me?" courtesy. To cap it off, in my 10-15 minutes in the restaurant, I saw two people get served without wearing masks, which on 3/6/21 was very inappropriate in my eyes. I usually would not care at all about such things, but with such a busy restraint (not anywhere close to social distancing among those picking up takeout/placing an order), I would have preferred the employees insist on wearing a mask, which is complaint with the current statewide mask mandate. In summary, average to below-average food and a frustrating takeout experience. Given their hype, I'll probably give the restaurant one more chance for takeout and see if they can make up for this experience, but I don't know if I'll go with another Chinese dish. Definitely not repeating anything from this order. They have a ton of Asian options on their menu, so one of those is something I'll try. read more

I have seen this place hyped up a lot on Yelp and on Instagram. I finally went to see how it was. We went during lunch on a Saturday and got their lunch deal. The price was great for what you got. It was the usual soup, egg roll or 2 crab Rangoons, and entree. We ordered hot tea as well. I would say the quality of the food was what I would expect at any other takeout Chinese restaurant. The crab rangoons were amazing and I was thrilled I could get them with the lunch special. The tea was great as well, and only $1 per person to get a pot delivered to your table. Overall I didn't think it was much different or better than any other take out place I've been to in Indy, but I plan on returning for their pho because I've heard that's amazing. The old lady who i believe is the owner was extremely rude to myself and my mother as soon as we walked in the door. Accused us of making a mess in the bathroom which was number 1 a false untrue accusation and very very rude. Anyone could have made a mess...IDK why she would accuse us.. I am very annoyed at how she treated us yelling at us in the restuarant. Then we order our food and sit down to eat ... we gave her our order that she wrote down and when the food came out it was all wrong and not what we asked for and she yells at us saying that it was correct and thats what we asked for which is not true. All the chicken and beef was extremely fatty and chewey so i couldnt eat what she brought out to us so i returned it and showed her the problem and she said thats the way it comes. This was the grossest food and most disgusting service and behavior Ive ever encountered at a restuarant. She refunded our money for one dish and said dont order anything else im not taking your order...again super rude and uncalled for since i wasnt going to order anything else anyway bc her food was fatty gross grizzle and her behavior towards us was despicable. I will never be back to this establishment again...there are plenty of good chinese retuarants out here..hers is not one of them. Im going to try to attach some of the fatty gross beef she served us to eat. Would anyone want to eat this poor quality food for lunch? I think NOT!! I SUGGEST OTHERS NOT GO TO THIS PLACE.
