I grew up in Indianapolis so I was excited to get some food ying. It was just okay though. Maybe my taste buds have changed, but the egg rolls weren't hitting. They were good, but not what I remember. It's a decent Chinese food restaurant though. Not really a place to sit and eat and the service is okay. I would get it to go and order early. read more

This is your typical Chinese restaurant. I ordered vegetable egg rolls which were very good! It had a spice that isn't typically in egg rolls. Maybe star anise? Idk but it worked. For an entree I had the veggie egg foo young and general tso chicken... both lacked flavor. Didn't like either of the gravy options they had. Would go back for an egg roll. read more

Wow these reviews do not reflect the reality of the worst Chinese food in Indy. I keep checking on my dog after giving him this "one dog feast" Thankfully he is ok after consuming this stuff. He had Orange chicken that looked brown an tasted nasty like something soaked in soy sauce. Ordered plain lo mein like I have been getting since a child and the surprised me with nothing but soysauced soaked fat lo mein noodles?? No shreddd cabbage, no bits of shredded carrots no onions??? He had Yellow colored deep-fried crab rangoon tasted weird makes u wonder lio ??? Finally back open! Not to be missed egg rolls! They are huge, they are tasty, and they are greasy! Whew! Big back style! We also got wings. Fried and delicious. And full size! Pork fried rides was great as was the chicken fried rice. I also got the general tso chicken. Not at all spicy (a bit of a letdown) but the flavor was good. Oh and when you order online and think "it won't take an hour for pickup".... It did on a Saturday night! So glad they're back open! read more

Pretty good. Ordered online, earliest time available was an hour late so we took that. Food was ready when we got there so not hot but will be early next time. Egg roll Is in fact huge, crispy. Too many peppers in pepper steak but everyplace does that. Teriyaki sticks also huge, good flavor. Same with fried wontons. read more

Best joint for Chinese food in Indiana. I've been going here since I was a teenager (1982 to 1986) but I believe it's been open since 1972. Most people in Indy will tell you the same. I can never get them on the phone to call ahead it's always busy... but I doo see them on the phone so that is probably why. So expected a 30 minute wait on average. They had a fire in 2024 I believe but opened back up by Christmas. I remember I was going to go there but the line was so long I had to go to some little China joint across from my house and of course was so disappointed. Foon Ying provides reliable favorites such as wonton soup, Lo Mein, Kung Po Chicken, Hunan Beef and General Tso's Chicken. They also have signature dishes, such as its orange flavored beef and chicken, The Triple Crown (shrimp, chicken and beef sautéed with vegetables) and the massive Foon Ying Special, which includes chunks of shrimp, chicken, pork and vegetables with pan fried noodles. They have the biggest most delicious egg rolls I've ever had. The come with pork, shrimp or vegetable. My favorite has always been the egg Foo young which comes with beef, pork, chicken, shrimp or vegetable. The pint size contains 3 huge patties. I'm sure you will enjoy anything you get and the portions are still the biggest around, that I have seen. read more

Yes every review raves about the egg rolls,but there is a huge menu with a whole bunch of very good items.If you like crispy full size chicken wings,they have the best.The Won Ton soup is the best I have ever eaten.The chicken teriyaki sticks are unreal.My favorite entree is the House special chop suey,and the pan fried noodles are awesome.I have been going here since the late 60's when it was in the Triangle shopping center,next to the Haag drug store,across from its current location.Now that is the only issue,as that area is not somewhere you want to be after dark.Keep your head on a swivel when you go there,and do it during daylight hours is my suggestion.Be safe read more

It shouldn't exist, but it does. Everyone has their own opinions on the best American-Chinese place in their area. I know I have written reviews for my favorites. Foon Ying stands above all others in every single category. It won't be my personal go-to for the only reason being distance from my home -- 40 minutes round-trip. It's a gourmet experiences hiding behind counter service. The restaurant is renovated and very clean. The staff are busy every second you are there taking orders, which is a true sign of their quality. I ordered online, but you can call or order at the counter. I went at an odd hour and it was still slammed. The egg rolls make them famous, for good reason. These things are monsters and yet, light and delicate. The offerings are nothing out of what you expect, but it just taste better than anywhere else. The higher quality nature of each item is so apparent. I ordered the typical General Tso Chicken and they actually honored the "extra spicy" note by adding real peppers and chili oil, instead of just some sambal oelek (which I do like). I didn't want to wait for the car ride home so I ate it in the parking lot. The Crab Rangoon was the best I ever had. The Egg Roll made me cry and my main course was just...so much better. Nothing will beat my hometown favorite, but remove nostalgia and Foon Ying is the best in Indiana. read more

I dont know what happened. This used to be my favourite take out spot. We just ordered food that tasted terrible, some of the worst food I have ever gotten from a restaurant. The fried rice, which used to be the best in the city, had no vegetables in it. It was a soggy, oily mush of rice. I ordered moo goo gai pan like I usually do. and the sauce tasted genuinely rancid. I do not like wasting food but it was truly inedible and I am concerned about it being spoiled or something. My husband ordered pork which was previously his favourite. It was tough, chewy and dry. The only thing that tasted somewhat normal was their jumbo egg rolls which still seemed more bland than usual. I am extremely upset about the waste of money and food. I cannot continue to recommend this restaurant after this terrible experience. read more

Been coming to Foon Ying since I was a kid. My parents always drove from the west side to the east side just for this restaurant. This is a traditional favorite for my family. I highly recommend the house special fried rice, shrimp egg rolls, chicken or shrimp egg foo young, fried chicken wings.
