Mediocre service and the food was not up to par. What I received was not worth the money I spent.

I went with the kids for breakfast yesterday. I was blown away. We were seated immexiately on a Sunday morning. Service by Paola was excellent. Our food was outstanding. I had the breakfast tacos and couldn't believe how good they were. My kids had pancakes and french toast and cleared their plates. Aaand they had a bar. I had two mimosas and definitely left a little more giggly than I arrived. The kids and I are already makimg plans for next week and we might even bring dad. I have come here many times. The food is fantastic. Today I was so disappointed in the cosmo i ordered. It was without flavor and tasted watered down. When I sent it back I ordered an apple martini. Again horrible, I left it. If the bar area servers don't know what to do,please let them work the floor. My server seemed agitated that I sent the first back. The location is great. However, there is much improvement to be done. My husband and I are just leaving the restaurant, and the service was terrible. Sadly to say, we will not be returning to the Gambrills location because of the following: 1. Limited staff supporting the bar area. Too many staff supporting/standing around in the back leaving no support for the bar area. 2. We sat for 10 minutes before someone approached us to take our order; 3. The runners were very slow with bringing the food and drinks. We could see food/drinks/smoothies/etc sitting for long periods of time; 4. We received our food before our drinks; 5. The food was luke warm; 6. The servers bashed other servers in front of the guests; and 7. Back staff/runners were on their phone and touching their hair as they handled the food. read more

I've known about this spot for some time and was excited to finally give it a try myself. I visit on a Saturday.. which wasn't the best decision on my part. The wait time was about an hour. They had text alerts however at the location I visit so I was able to leave and return when time. I first noticed that the bar sold alcohol, which was a plus. The overall ambiance was nice and cozy; Nothing extremely distinct or memorable though. The service was good. Once seated, my friend and I were attended to fairly quickly. As we were starving, we ordered immediately. My steak was just good... It was seasoned nicely and cooked well done. The eggs and photos were "good enough", if you know what I mean. Nothing really blew my mind about this meal honestly, but I wasn't disappointed either. The mimosas we ordered had a nice kick as well. I'd try another location and lunch item whenever I return next. The food was good, my omelet was prepared well, the hamburgers were good. Seasoning and presentation were great. I didn't give a 5 star because they automatically put an 18% gratuity which in someways is a disservice to the servers because I would have given her 20%. I came here with family after remembering how much we enjoyed the Eggspectation in Silver Spring. The service in this new location however, is not off to a good start. Additionally, the menu is much smaller than I remember and omelettes are not included in the menu I looked over for dinner. We wound up not eating, as our server sort of left us hanging and the more I looked at the menu the more the "18% gratuity included on all checks" stood out. We got drinks but never had a chance to order because our server was inattentive and we had enough time to rethink our meal choices. The food I saw looked good, but it wasn't worth wading through the nonexistent service we experienced. Fortunately Frisco's has their stuff together and had no wait. We walked next door and enjoyed a meal that led to a $100 check and a 25% tip that was not mandated by the restaurant. Eggspectation needs to rethink some things and think more about what they offer and if it justifies including gratuities on every bill. read more

Very disappointing, we waited a long time for this place to open in our area. Service was lacking. Server was very unattentive, it took an extremely long time to get our food, then when it came, everything was either lukewarm or very cold, our server never came back to check to see how our food was, but was able to bring the check on time, at which time he had the nerve to make us aware that 18% gratuity had already been added; for a party of 3??? I let him know as we were leaving that all our food had come out cold, all he could say was "thank you for letting me know, I'll let the kitchen know". Very unacceptable. Server's name was Jimmy. They need to do better in training their staff on good customer service, very sad. I'll think twice before I go again and drop nearly $90 for breakfast. read more

Not a lot of options for people who have more than one dietary restriction. Coming from Texas to Maryland it felt like I had less options up here for some reason. I give 2 stars for the simple fact that there's more local mom and pop places that have more options than a chain such as eggspectation which is surprising but also a reassuring feeling that the industry is going in a more inclusive direction but it feels like eggspectation is lacking that. read more

It would be nice if they could let you know in advance that putting yourself on the waiting list is not something that operates correctly. I put myself and my family on the waiting list at 12:12 pm with an estimated seating time of 1:40 pm. We go inside at 1:35 pm to be told that our name is not on the waiting list and that although you're allowed to do so online, it does not work on their end. I mean, I watched the waiting list from my phone count down from 17 to 8 parties....so how is it not working? A young lady asked if I wanted her to put us on the list that they had and that it would be another 45-50 minutes. When you have 3 small hungry children, the last thing you want to do is wait longer then what you were told. We frequent this location often and I am HIGHLY disappointed and very upset. read more

I was initially served an old order of fried chicken and waffles that looked unappetizing, and the chicken was not freshly cooked (even overcooked). I was questioned by 2 people about why I would not accept an order that was not freshly cooked (the old order came out to me 2 minutes after I placed my order :-/). Not good! The hostess was not ready to receive patrons, nor did she apologize for making me and others wait. My server, Rafa, was pleasant but didn't fight for me to have a fresh order. I had to do it, which made me feel like just another customer and was reflected in the tip I gave him. The music was way too loud. This store needs to learn and practice customer service skills that keep patrons coming back and not just for the food. read more

Had great hopes for this new restaurant in Waugh Chapel. I've eaten at the same restaurant in Columbia, MD many times with no problems. This is an egg specialty restaurant, but the cooks here can't cook your eggs to how you asked even on second try. I was excited to try this place and took my nephew last Friday afternoon. I wasn't impressed. We were not in the mood for breakfast but knew they had so many other options. We tried the salmon tacos, Mediterranean wings and the calamari. The tacos were okay, the wings were good but the calamari was not good. It was cold and lacked flavor. Our first time at Eggspectation, and we loved it! It eggceaded our expectations. Yup, just went there. Staff was friendly, great service and the food was amazing. I got the avocado toast Benedict. Went on a Friday night around 7pm and the place was dead and all the servers were sitting at the first booth on the right chit chatting and while ignoring the fact that my garlic bread appetizer was sitting up by the window getting cold for 15mins, our entrees were done by the time our server paid attention and was service at the same time. The food was mediocre, our garlic bread appetizer was soggy and cold, the fact that it sat at the kitchen window for 15 minutes drenched in olive oil surely didn't help. My $26 cajun chicken pasta was so disappointing with literally ONE chicken tender worth of meat. The $8 add-on side salad was SMALL and was charged .50 cents for a shot glass worth of croutons! Talk about nickel and dimeing guests! I didn't know they charged me until I got the check! Oh they also drastically changed their menu and none of the dishes resembles the Eggspectations I once loved. It is so sad to see the chain go downhill like this. The Cajun Pasta was my go-to for years. The recipe at this restaurant is just not it. The old recipe was made with more love and heart. It was creamier and substantially more flavorful. I've also been disappointed at how the pasta is packaged when I place a to-go order. Two slices of non-toasted bread tossed and closed on top of the pasta. I have to peel the wet bread off my pasta. I don't usually write reviews but please go back to the old recipe. It's tastes much better. Please also take care and consideration when packaging food, it matters. Thank you! read more

Eggspectation used to serve breakfast all day, hence their name - they were a well known upscale breakfast diner and their food was delicious and service fantastic. Now, they seem to have lost their identity, their quality, and their service and I predict that they won't be around for long. They apparently recently changed their menu and now only sell pub food in the evening. I sat down in the restaurant this evening looking forward to their classic crab eggs benedict only to learn that they no longer serve that or any breakfast type food in the evening. I also had to wait 10 minutes for a waiter in a nearly empty restaurant to tell me that they don't serve breakfast in the evening anymore. There's a reason that they're empty. So this location has gotten better, but they still have things that need work. We went opening day and that was terrible but we have gone back a few more times to see how things go because we love breakfast food. Staff oddly the last 2 times were giving us the cold shoulder to hurry up and finish eating. 1 waitress was fantastic in the beginning taking our order- all of a sudden a switch turned on and she became and total different person. We were almost done eating and asked for refills on our water and a coffee to go- she gave us an attitude. We are not slow eaters nor did we ask to order any extra food or drinks later on nor did we need anything else from her when we got our food- we literally just needed more water, our check, and then a coffee to go. Not sure if some other table gave her a hard time or if someone else did something to her but they need to tell staff you shouldnt take your anger out on other customers. We still left a 25% tip. Then a 2nd time the waitress was great also- different gal. I was talking to my partner and I put my fork down - the waitress immediately asked me if I was done with this- I said no and then she tried to take my plate from me. Then I picked my fork back up. My partner then told me we are getting subtle hints they wanted us to hurry and finish- I wasnt done eating- as we did order an appetizer, entree and dessert this time. Spending extra money I guess doesnt matter to the place or at least this waitress - we still left a 25% tip. Funny thing is these were both weekdays and they were not that busy- no lines and there were opened tables. Hope this isnt something encouraged by the management here. If the staff are like this on their own merit then this needs to be addressed. read more

I have to visit this place a little more than this first time, but the lobster omelette I ordered was flavorful, as were the sides. Went during a weekday so it wasn't packed, which I can appreciate, and my server was very attentive probably as a result of not having to deal with weekend mayhem that I'm certain this place gets. Breakfast is my least favorite meal of the day, but if I must indulge, several helpings of eggs is a must. So will definitely be checking out the rest of their menu. read more

Comically slow and bad service. Currently sitting in the restaurant after an hour wait. There are 7 empty tables. They turned away everyone at the door by telling them 1.5-2 hour wait. They turned away everyone from sitting at the bar because they were short staffed. The 18% gratuity that is MANDATORY has staff loafing around this place because their tips are guaranteed. No one has been super friendly so far. The manager(maybe owner) near the front thanked us for waiting, but as soon as we turned the corner and saw the empty tables we were annoyed again. Our waiter immediately got our drink order wrong. We ordered toast because we were starving after the wait. Took too long to come out. Food was very good, but not worth the headaches. The tables would have been cool if not for the black writing on the wood showing. Probably won't go back. read more
