What a gem. Greeted at the door and a very short wait. The wait staff is the best around. We never had to wait for coffee and the food was incredible. If I could give this place a zero I would. My family came here for the first time today and waited about 5 min for a table, however they took 20 minutes to even take our order, and it took an hour and 20 min to even get our food. I had a four year old and a 15 month old with me and I had to take the young one out of the restaurant several times to entertain him while we waited. It took so long that we asked for the food to go. When we got home we realized they had forgotten our pancakes and toast! They didn't address the fact that it took over an hour to make two eggs, hash browns and some pancakes and charged us full price. The food was ok, but the service is ridiculous and I would NOT recommend going there. The restaurant itself is run down and not very well taken care of. The seat in our booth was tore up and duck taped together. Additionally the high chair my son sat in was dirty. We will not be returning here and don't recommend you do either. read more

Brought my daughters here this morning for the first time and loved it. The atmosphere is warm and inviting as soon as you walk in. It smells awesome and the food is delicious. I had the Venetian Benedict and the hollandaise sauce was the perfect balance of lemon and cheese. Not too thick, not too runny. The spinach was fresh and green, the egg was cooked perfectly and the muffin was done just right. The potatoes were great too. My younger daughter had Chocolate Chip French Toast and it was so yummy! The coffee is excellent. Very friendly service, prices are very reasonable. I'm going back again - I'd like to try their blintzes, apple pancake and German pancake, and I'd like to bring my husband. I wanted to update my rating to 5 starts bc I came back today and was able to do a better comparison with their food and service. They still have excellent service and food, not a fancy place but food was very well presented and tasty. We even had leftovers, so portions good and priced very reasonably. This time I had eggs Benedict was excellent. Corned beef hash is homemade, as well as the maple syrup for the pancakes. Will come back again and recommend to friends and family. read more

I ate at this place this morning & the food was not very satisfying at all. They have cold air that blows in your face when other customers walk in, especially if you're eating at a table that's close to the door, and who wants to be shivering while trying to eat. We ordered waffle with fruit and asked for whipped cream which we did not receive and our wattress didn't come back until we were finished eating, so we didn't get a chance to tell her & we weren't quite sure if we were charged because the waitress didn't give me a second to speak, she just grabbed the card and went. We ate here this past Sunday for brunch and it was delicious! I was so happy to find a new non chain in the area. The food was awesome and on par with Egg Harbor and Walker Brothers. My husband had the meat lovers skillet and biscuits and gravy and he loved it. It is hard to please him too. My 3 year old had the chocolate chip short stack and she ate almost all of them. I had a Popeye egg white Omelet (Spinach and Swiss) and it was so fluffy and delicious. The hash browns and toast were great too.The coffee was fresh and I only drank about a 1/4 of the cup before it was freshened up. The service was great and the staff was happy we were there. It is kid friendly too. We have a 3 year old and a 9 month. The whole family enjoyed it. read more

Another sub-par place that locals overrate. I'm not sure if we went on the wrong day, wrong shift, or what. Very friendly, but two staff were eating their lunches while we were there so refills were slow. A server was eating her lunch at the serving counter, at one point she spilled and licked sauce off her hand in full view of customers. Food was okay, bacon seemed reheated from earlier, hash browns barely cooked inside. Nobody left hungry but we all agreed we made a big mistake by not going to The Vegas in Antioch which is so much better. If you like Denny's you'll like it here. read more

Awesome find! Oh I was not feeling well the morning we first went here. I was a bit confused at first, you seat yourself. So we were keeping track, and it makes me chat with other people waiting. I started feeling better, you know how it is when you start chatting. Oh, we got our table and well the menu had a variety to choose from. It was sooo good, we all loved what we ordered. My only complaint, I did not care for the coffee. I'm not a Starbucks fan, but I like a good cup of coffee. I believe they use Folgars, not a fan. I would prefer a Greek diner over this place. Most of the seats have holes in them covered up with duck tape. Everything is mismatched so it just has an old dirty feel. From the outside you think it would be modern, fresh and clean. Breakfast shouldn't take over 30minutes to get to your table. Biggest pet peeve is when you order extra crispy hash browns and they come out still half raw. If this was my breakfast place I would have a small pitcher of water with lemon for each table along with a small pot of coffee with fresh creme not the kind in the plastic cups. Nice little breakfast spot in our neighborhood. The service was friendly & they kept my coffee cup filled. Food was delicious with a nice size portion. Husband enjoyed his meat lovers skillet & I enjoyed my eggs, with hash browns, bacon, & pancakes...delicious. I'm a bit weird about my bacon being overcooked but overall enjoyed it. I gave 4 stars because it is seat yourself with only about 10 tables & I thought the little two-seater table near the front door was kind of pointless but that was my fault to choose that table...I was hungry lol! read more

Really surprised with with this restaurant. Between this and Aiden's Place the Round Lake Area really has two great additions to the food scene. I had the Southern Bell Benedict this past weekend and I could not be any more pleased with the dish. No breakfast place in the area can compare with the home made biscuit and the gravy sauce. Menu has a lot of interesting options you will not find anywhere close in Lake County. Place was packed last Sunday and it's because it is one of best options around for breakfast. Stumbled across this place by chance a couple years back and this has become our go-to breakfast place. The place itself isn't super fancy but the staff and food are great. Tends to get busy and at times there's a wait but well worth it. I personally love the different mugs- gives it a "home-like" feel. read more

The food was great, and would probably give the place five stars if the whole experience matched. My only complaint is that since it's a small place seating is light and the door butts up to the dining area. Which means during the cold months there is a draft every time someone lanes or comes and there is little room for waiting (basically salivating / staring down the eaters to hurry up and finish). My husband and I have been here a few times and its been consistently good, and we've never had any issues with the wait for a table until today. When we arrived there were two groups waiting in the doorway so my husband and I stood outside for about 3 minutes (no one else was outside but us) before one of the groups was seated and then we walked in and waited. Not long after a family of three came and poked their head in the door then waited outside. One of the waitresses walked up and checked on who was waiting. Unfortunately this waitress left shortly after doing this because she could attest to us being second and the family being third in line. Not long after the waitress left the two people in front of us were seated and therefore we were next, but apparently the family outside thought they were next. Maybe they didn't acknowledge us when they looked in, but either way it seemed to cause an issue after a waitress came up to seat the next group (my husband and I) and they claimed to be next. I think Eggspress may need to come up with a better system for keeping track of customers waiting. I felt bad for the waitresses having the deal with the family being annoyed that they thought we jumped the line when we did not. Looking back I would have just given up the table to stop the family from complaining just feet away from us. It was very uncomfortable. On top of all that the steak with my steak and eggs plate was pretty bland and tough. I didn't want to bother the staff about it cause I didn't want to be there any longer. I have liked going here in the past, but today left a bad taste in my mouth so I'm giving it 3 stars. read more

We wanted to love this place as its close to home but it just wasnt good. The food just had absolutely no flavor, when I have to pound it with salt and pepper thats a problem. Omelette was like a dry egg loaf, minimal ham and veggies and cheese on the bottom, not middle. Hashbrowns were oily and not fully cooked. Also ordered country fried steak the was also lackluster. He gets the Spanish skillet. I tried some and it was great! We got a side of corned beef hash and it was a little sour. Their syrup for French Toast has a weird texture, almost like chocolate syrup. They're very attentive on refills and this one lady (I think the owner/manager) was very nice and friendly. Despite our server I would try this place again. We ate there a few months ago and the place is a dump with bad food and bad service. The French toast was soggy and swimming in a pool of butter, my fiancé couldn't even eat it. When the waitress came and asked her why she didn't eat it she got snooty when we told her why, what the heck! We'll never go back. read more

Hidden gem! Not only is their food delicious it is also well priced and their service is outstanding. This is definitely a new favorite spot for us and I can't believe we haven't been here sooner. LOVE this place! A little gem tucked in the corner of a very quiet strip mall. The word is out, because this place is always busy. The food is very good and the staff is very friendly. Has that cute little neighborhood joint feel. The kind of place you feel very welcome and appreciated. I don't drink coffee, but if you do.. you can bring your own mug and leave it there for your next visit. So fun! It was nice when it first opened, but has an even better feel with it's new owners. The food here is good. It's a very small restaurant, mom and pop style. It's uncomfortable because the servers know a lot of the regulars and treat them well but treat people that only have eaten there once like outsiders. The customer service is why I won't come back, but it's not terrible. If you are in town and are looking to eat alone without too much interruption this is the place for you. read more
