Being big-time breakfast people, we were not pleased. Not going to waste time on ambience and decor, the food was not good. Seemed like the omelettes were preformed and lacked a freshly made taste. The potatoes were undercooked as well. I ordered the Spring Omelette that contained asparagus, red and green pepper and Parmesan cheese. I didn't taste the cheese until almost done with the omelette and found black olives in it as well. It was also quite dry. Since this was our first experience, we may try one more time, but I'm not holding my breath. read more

My husband and I tried this place yesterday and were very pleased with our experience. I got the ham and cheese omelet with pancakes. The omelet had perfect proportions of cheese and meat and the eggs were light and fluffy. My husband ordered the apple pancake (which takes about 30 minutes, just an FYI--they warn you on the menu, too) and devoured it. The atmosphere is relaxed and all of the ladies working were super nice and personable. We had an omelet with pancakes, apple pancake, biscuits & gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and coffee all for under $30. I think we found our breakfast place! read more

My family gives this place a solid three stars. The food was mediocre, my coffee cup AND plate were chipped. The coffee was meh. I had the Venetian Benedict and the hollandaise was bland and my muffin was soaked with water from the poached egg that was over cooked. My daughter had the kids French toast which was one thin slice of bread that even to a 9 year old was deemed way too sweet. They have homemade syrup, but it made us question what constitutes as homemade? Mixing vanilla, corn syrup, and molasses? The service was slow, and there was a wait for tables, but we were sitting waiting to get our check. The actual place was loud, had water damaged ceiling tiles, and was decorated with framed computer print outs. We didn't get how this possibly had such great reviews on Yelp. Cheap - yes. Good - not so much. I'd rather spend 15 bucks more and go to a place I know has great food. read more

I have been here before and liked the food a lot. Decided to take my boyfriend there. Nobody took our order and we ended up walking out. Had a group of women cleaning up a table and chat while we sat there trying to order food. Could one of them even acknowledge us? Nope. Drove down to Iron Horse and our order was taken within 2 min. I have been here several times for breakfast. The menu is really diverse. Not just the typical type of offering you see most other places. Food is prepared very well, service is really good. I would give them an F on the coffee though. Same nasty coffee that you get other places. Everything else is so good that I expected the coffee to be much better than it is. this is my second day in a row eating at this place. Omg! Loveeee their food! My husband had the chorizo Benedict and he said it was amazingly delicious! He also had the red velvet pancakes which were outstanding. I had butter milk pancakes, one egg, hashbrowns, toast,coffee,.. Everything was egg-streamly delicious. I'm a pancake fanatic.. I tried many breakfast joints and I would say this place and whistle stop have the best pancakes in lake county. The second day I came back and had their pumpkin pancakes with homemade pumpkin puree butter. Tasted very natural. They were good but I wouldn't say they are the best pumpkin pancakes I had. I prefer to stick with the old fashion buttermilk pancakes. Yummmm. The staff are extremely friendly and make sure you are refilled and satisfied with your food. . the only negative I would say is... The place is very small, two of the booths have holes in the seat with tape. Its kind of uncomfortable to sit on. There was no sugar or splenda at my table, I had to get up to get some. Place is pretty new...yet needs some repairs. It would be great if they had to go menus at the front door. I would love to bring a menu home. Also... Where's the business cards? This place needs ton more advertising! I have been bragging about this restaurant all week! This is going to be our breakfast spot for now on. read more

Amazing pancakes!! I'm not going to lie these are some of the best pancakes I have ever had at a restaurant, they are so fluffy and melt in your mouth soft. The coffee is good and hot, the service is wonderful, and you can't beat the price. read more

Finally a new restaurant for breakfast in Round Lake! We have eaten here 3 times in the last few weeks.The food was excellent every time. Try the Spanish omelet - it's wonderful! Service is very good. We haven't had lunch here yet so we can't comment on that, but we hear from friends that it's very good. read more

We were very misled by the high reviews for this restaurant. Although the staff was pretty friendly, it took us a while to be noticed after we followed the signs that said, "seat yourself." The restaurant itself was in pretty poor condition-- tears and tacky tape in the booth seats, seats sunken in and uncomfortable, food splatters and handprints on walls and pictures, grimy floors, and bathrooms out of toilet paper and not stocked with extra. The bathroom did seem nice though. Food was just okay, nothing that stood out to us. They messed up our bill by overcharging for drinks we didn't order, although they were apologetic and corrected right away. I don't mean to sound snobby or rude, but the restaurant did not feel very clean or taken care of. read more

This small family owned restaurant is a gem. The owner is a young woman, Haley, who cannot do enough to make sure your experience is great. The chef hales from Walker Brothers. He brings some favorites similar to their menu; the Dutch Baby Pancake is my favorite. It takes a little time and on busy mornings I call ahead to order it. There are daily specials that are truly unique! California Benedict, as you might suspect, is full of avocado. Lunch salads are a reasonable size ( and price!). Since the restaurant is not large, sometimes there is a wait. But don't let that put you off, it's worth the wait! read more
