I have always had good luck here for the last 5 years, but today they charged me $14.57 for a Pepsi and a beef sandwich. Nothing special. Forgot the cheese. The people in front of me got 3 meals for $31 and my small lunch was half of that... Their menu Has the meal advertised for $10.95 on the wall, which includes a drink with fries, and I paid $14.57 for a beef and a Pepsi and my order was wrong, and didn't get fries??? Our washing machine broke so we were nextdoor. The people I was with were raving about Scotty's, saying they had been going there since they were kids. we ordered dogs, tacos, and a burger. everything was so good!! I ordered my hotdog without peppers but with everything else, and the gentleman at the counter looked at me and asked "sauerkraut?" with a questioning eye (LOL) I answered yes and let me tell you. I've been going here for over 30 years (fond memories of 'ditching' high school lunch with friends sitting on the wooden picnic tables out back) and the food is the same today as it was then...classic Chicago hot dog stand. Fresh cut homemade fries (never frozen or sitting under a heat lamp) rolled up in wax paper with a loaded up dog with a natural casing in a greasy paper bag, that is my childhood. Their gyros are also excellent as are their cherry Pepsi's. They have a huge variety of other food here as well, but dogs, fries, and gyros are the go to's for me (plus I prefer Portillo's beef - hot - dipped over Scotty's). And prices are a steal for this much comfort food. My wife and I moved to MI in '05 and I'm telling you, Detroit doesn't understand hot dog stands. When we come back to visit family we always make a pilgrimage to Scotty's for lunch at least once. read more

I prefer the actual hotdog Scotty's uses over Sammies; it's natural casing which has a texture that is more enjoyable. And I've been going there since high school. Every time I come back to visit from CA which is about twice a year. I would go 3 or 4 times in a week. But NO LONGER! The owners decision to ONLY serve the dog with fries and then charge almost a $1 more is ridiculous. I don't want fries but I have to pay for them anyway? So from now on Sammies is getting all of my business. Customers deserve a simple choice to not pay for fries they don't want. read more

Great wieners! If you order "with everything" be advised it comes with kraut, which I personally don't mind. Awesome service, genuine smiles and they honestly make the food with love. Even a simple thing as a hotdog, they make it with love an create a decadent and succulent edible masterpiece. I'm giving you guys 4 stars because I'm not sure what your cheese sauce for nachos or cheese fries is made from. It was horrible, perhaps a bad batch or something. I couldn't eat it. And trust me I have a food addiction, I'm fat and I love crappy food at times, it is hard for me to not finish food or let alone to toss it. This I just couldn't. I'm the only customer in there. It takes five minutes to get my hot dog, fries, and drink special. The hot dog, which is buried in the french fries, is barely warm, as are the fries. And the hot dog was no big deal. I could have made a similar one at home very easy. Huge, huge fail. The burgers were old and cold, the bun was awful, the fries were in pieces, cold, few and far between, burnt, soggy, and looked like what was left in the bottom of the fry basket, truly a miserable mess. All the ice, in the lousy soda, was melted, we didn't want it anyway, but had to order it. We left a $7.00 tip, (more than what they suggested), for the delivery person for this un-eatable two, 1/4 pound cheeseburgers, one with fries, one with onion rings, the onion rings were cold too, and two unwanted Pepsi colas mistake, was $42.00, with the tip? The kid who answered the phone when I called earlier, assured me it would all get here hot! Rate Scotty's based on the food, not the appearance of the building. This is greasy comfort food, not Mortons's Steakhouse. A lot of people on here are complaining about soggy buns, but keep in mind that they probably live in some uppity suburb like Grayslake and have never been to a real Chicago style hot dog joint before. The buns are steamed. They wrap the hot dogs in fries. It's going to get soggy; That's how it works. Nobody wants to eat some dusty dried-out bread. THE FILTHIEST DIVE IN ROUND LAKE Entering this establishment is an exercise in Hepatitis avoidance. I am aware that Scottys Dogs has been around for decades and it shows. The floor has a black oily scum to it, looking more like a gas station than a food establishment. The register spits out a generic receipt and has no details as if you don't want to know what you have been charged for. And the local clientele will have you cringing against the walls, which you also don't want to come in contact with. But by far the worst part of the place is th e food. I heard about it going down hill but everything save the fries (which were pretty good) was subpar or just terrible. We ordered their "specials", hot dogs, hamburger, an over cooked under seasoned joke of a chicken sandwich, but the worst being the philly steak sandwich. Just awful. Dried out tasteless shoe leather with an alternately desicated and slimey bun that made it inedible. I was was overcharged by ten dollars according to their menu. They gave us way too many fries and had we known they wrapped their dogs in fries it would not have been necessary to order any more. I will never return and plan on filing a complaint to the health department. read more

Recently, we have tried ordering three separate times for delivery, weeks apart, and no luck. Once we called they put us "on hold" (placed the phone down) for over 5 mins. We hung up and tried calling back, got a busy signal for over 20 mins. Literally, tried calling over and over. I was super upset because we like the food. I've read so many good things about Scotty's Hot Dog Stand I had to make the pilgrimage from Lindenhurst to try it out. I was very much looking forward to trying their fresh hand cut fries wrapped with the hot dogs. My son and I both ordered Chicago-style dogs no hot peppers w/fries and we big sized it. The bag with our order was nice and shiny by the time we got home and the minivan now has a nice hot doggy smell to it. Imagine our surprise when we got home and unwrapped our dogs and found greasy fries on top of a hot dog with only mustard, onion, and a pickle on it. Not a Chicago-style dog at all. And the fries oozed oil. You could squeeze them and oil came out. I've seen Scotty's rated as one of the best places in Lake County to get a hot dog. Maybe Scotty had a bad day. Scotty's was hyped up to me by my boyfriend, a RLB resident. I love me a good hotdog...even better, a polish... and good fries. Mmmm... we went on a Saturday in the middle of the day. Unfortunately I had a similar experience to Miko; however, not only were my fries sopped with grease (and barely lukewarm), my polish was tough/chewy and greasy. I bit into it, and grease oozed out. I don't think it was residual fry grease, though. Now, I love me some fat and grease, salt on occasion, but there is a line between "tasty greasy" and "inedible greasy." I'm the only customer in there at 5:30 pm. should have been a tip off. Ordered the 2 hot dog special, asked what comes with every thing on the dogs. They point at a list, who in there right mind puts Sauerkraut on a hot dog. asked for no kraut, these are the worst hot dogs I've ever had in my life! When I got home to eat this crap, first time I ever had a "tough" hot dog, I could not for the life in me bite off a piece of the hot dog!!!! then they wrap the dog in these horrible greasy dirty oily fries which also by the soaks the bun in grease. I liked Scotty's! The fries are great. The place is clean. The food is good! I was there about 6 months ago and they had the most unique pizza burger, the kind with the cheese between two patties and the sauce on top. It was excellent! But then I went there a few weeks ago and they no longer had those same burgers! I was sad. I'll still recommend them, however. The prices, food, and personnel are very good. read more

What happened to this place??? Back in the 80's, this place was always packed with people, especially on weekend nights. I ordered their #1, which is a hot dog, fries and medium drink. I specifically told them I wanted everything on it. It WAS PLAIN!!! Fries were not cook all the way. Also ordered cheddar nuggets. Pile of garbage. The Chicago style hot dog is a staple for any hot dog joint within 100miles of the city they have a 7-11 dog at best. Management is run about as well as our government, inexperienced kids are the "cooks" preparing the food. I would have eaten (the shittiest hot dog i have ever seen or had a bite of) in the restaurant but it was filthy. When i got home the fries were so soggy i figured they dipped them in the toilet before crushing them into my hot dog. Bottom line is these people are jag offs with sub 7-11 style hot dogs.
