Went on the online waitlist and was told 40 minutes. We walked over at 10:40 check-in time (which was 20 minutes later) and Then was told over an additional hour wait time! How is that even possible! I have no problem with a wait time, I expect it ...especially on a busy day. Excellent tuna melt and gyro. The only gripe we had when eating was that it took awhile to get our food so the server may have not processed the order correctly or something. In addition, the gyro was kind of burnt on one side on a few occasions. I actually tend to like this, but it does get a bit dry if it's literally every piece. Will definitely be back. read more

Probably more like 2.5 - I've been here twice...loved it the first time, and thought it was just ok the second. Weekend brunch is mobbed, we waited about 40 minutes, and it's just not a worth-the-wait kind of place. Going during the week was much better. The first time I had the Nino Omelette (pork, beans, roasted peppers and queso fresco) which was good. I thought it could have done with one less egg, but it was tasty. What really sealed the deal for me were the potatoes! Melt-in-your-mouth goodness on the inside with a nice crisp on the outside, these could not be topped. Unfortunately, the second time I came back (essentially for the potatoes), they were not as good. I was excited to try the Peter and the Wolf because Yelpers raved about it and it wasn't available on my first visit during the week. It was disappointing. I mean, it's ok, but I've definitely had better hash. Service is very friendly and attentive. Well done Eggy's! The bathroom is well stocked with supplies, but unfortuntately there are only two single stalls. When the restaurant is hopping on a Sunday morning, there can be a long wait. We really wanted to love this place! We live a half a block away and were hoping this could be our go to breakfast place. Not that Wildberry's isn't amazing, because it is, but sometimes I don't feel like waiting an hour for a table. The first bad thing about it is they have moved the entrance, which requires you to walk through the entrance to Mariano's, through a little side door, past the Eggy's bathrooms, through the kitchen, and then you end up in the middle of the dining room where there is no hostess stand or anything. I understand they needed to move the entrance given it will soon be winter and they have all the tables right around that door, but they need to come up with something else. The service was bad. Some famous basketball player who plays for the Bulls was eating breakfast with his wife and our waitress was enamoured with him the entire time. She doted over him to the point where he was probably uncomfortable. It was clear to us that having to serve our table as well was a burden on her. We had to ask her to come over to order, asked for the check, ask for her to come pick up the check, etc. I wanted to order drinks, she wanted to brag about the huge tip the basketball player left her to all her co-workers. The food was good, I had the Eggy's breakfast sandwich which was excellent, a little different, and the potatoes were to die for. Some of the best home fries I've had. The problem with the food is it is too expensive. It is at least 50% more in price for the same thing you can get anywhere. A pretty solid place to get some comfort grub. The chilaquiles were amazing and the milkshakes were pretty damn good. The coffee is hot and tasty, and the atmosphere is chill and fun. We had a fantastic breakfast here this morning. Aaron took excellent care of us -- he was friendly, professional, quick, personable, and smart. And the food was flawless. I had breakfast tacos (a special, and I reckon this would be a good addition to the regular menu). My husband had the Eggy's benedict (on 2 mini waffles instead of English muffin). Daughter #1 had the nutella + banana French toast special, and daughter #2 had pancakes with seasonal fruit & a few chocolate chips. Everything was delicious. Servers don't rush you, food came out timely and the quality was there. For the simple things, this is important. We were not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and worked on getting us seated fast even though the place was full. The food was very tasty and the portions were huge. The food was served fast. We got omelets and a kid's silver dollar (seven) pancake breakfast. The potatoes were not my favorite as they were pretty dry and I was a bit disappointed they didn't have rye toast but other than that the food was great. We ended up taking some pancakes with us as it was too much at the time but ate them later together and they were tasty even when cold. We arrived at Eggy's on a busy Saturday morning and assumed we'd be waiting a long time. The place is small and was packed. But we were surprised at how quickly things moved along. Within minutes, we were sitting at a table with a pot of coffee in front of us. Our waitress was terrific and brought our food and our bill without a lot of waiting on our part. The place is a model of efficiency! We were also surprised by the generous portion size and price, which was very competitive for the area. Our food was great--breakfast tacos and the best potatoes I've had in recent memory. If you happen to be near Michigan and Lake at breakfast time, you will not be disappointed. Supremely mediocre. The poached egg on the Benedict was over done. The pork is flavorless. The 4 egg omelet was over cooked. The pancake was really basic, the syrup wasn't real. The toppings on the lemon berry pancake were canned. The strawberries were drenched in red goop and the "lemon mascarpone" tasted like icing. Some of the other reviews seem pretty good, but it was just an average breakfast for us. We had a very nice server, and the decor is pretty cool, but the food is just not worth it when there are so many choices in the city. First off, the coffee was extremely week, but I I ordered french toast (recommended by our server) so I just knew it was going to get better. Unfortunately, it didn't. The french toast was very bland. I had to keep dumping syrup on for some flavor and sweetness. I am partial to a french toast that has some vanilla or cinnamon, or something besides just a little powered sugar sprinkled over top. Our waiter, Colin, was by far and away one of the best waiters I have EVER had! We adored him and he was so good at his job. He is a treasure of Eggy's! I had a simple meal (because I just had a root canal and I'm still scared to eat anything!) of a grilled cheese with avocado. YUM. Everyone seems to be in the "how can I help" mindset...to each other. Not common in such a busy environment. This reflects in the service to those who eat here. During our trip to Chicago we decided to have brunch at Eggy's before the fest and for my friends birthday. About a 30-45 minute wait for a party of 6, which isn't that bad considering the dining room is really small. Every single person in our group LOVED their meal. I opted for the biscuits and gravy with sausage and eggs. It was actually REALLY good AND their breakfast potatoes were highly addictive. The thing they probably are or should be known for though are their breakfast griddle specialties (pancakes and french toast). My friend and I shared the french toast stuffed with citrus marscapone and it was absolutely delicious. The zest in the cheese was perfectly balanced and made it perfect. Another friend got the cinnamon roll pancakes and they were the icing on the cake. Perfect finale. Also, their fresh squeezed OJ was some super tasty stuff. read more

While waiting in the designated area, we were asked to give up our chairs so that they could be taken to an actual dining table for another customer. Like Custom House (closed) and Maison (closed), Eggys is run by the same people. Like its 2 predecessors it's good, but....off. Food is not so good you'd go back again and again. At Maison, the seasoning was off balance - either too lemony, too salty, too funky, overreduced, etc, depending on the dish. You like the food enough not to complain, but not enough to become a regular. At Eggy's they are plagued by EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. We got the pulled pork benedict. Sounds amazing right? It was horrendously sweet. Even the rich fattiness of the pork couldn't save it. We asked where the sweetness came from and apparently it came from the hollandaise sauce. A careful testing of separate elements on the plate showed it came from the pork itself which had been SOAKED in syrup. I get it - they're trying to overdo the sugar for the American palate. Didn't work. The sugar overwhelmed the fat! Burgers were tasty, but also....off. The buns were huge and overwhelmed the meat. Toppings were fresh, but overall they weren't balanced. Tasty? Yes. Would we order again? No. Chicken fried steak and eggs was delicious, as was the salad, but again things were just slightly...off. The salad components came in enormous pieces. The key to successful salad is cutting things small enough so you get a bite of everything on one fork. Again, everything was delicious, but chopping a salad yourself on an overloaded salad plate is awkward. Would I get it again despite it being tasty? No. See? Again, things are just...off. I have a feeling that like Custom House and Maison before it Eggy's is not long for this earth. On the flipside, the service was spectacular and attentive without being intrusive. read more
