This is my favorite breakfast place. Their food is great environment is relaxed and food had so many different tastes from healthy to nice comfort food. I have had so many different things from from yougurt and berries to egg Benedict with pulled pork and everything is good. The coffee is very nice too. We love coming here with the kids and grandkids. Some of them come from the suburbs just to eat breakfast at Eggys. It is very kids friendly with the coloring paper and crayons. Although I know they have a nice lunch menu but I always order breakfast there even if I am there in the afternoon. read more

Probably one of the most mediocre, slowest, and overpriced places in the area. None of the items on the menu really stand out. The service is very slow which is fine if you're dining in, but for takeout, waiting 45 minutes isn't really acceptable. Felt like doing the yuppie thang (brunch) which I don't do often, and if I do I will only do quite early before the crowds. Luckily Eggy's has seats before 9am, although the crowds were piling up quite fast after that point. They do have "bar seating" for single/flexible people but otherwise the tables. They have a nice savory menu: tried the Green Eggs and Ham, which was eggs over grits with a spicy green salsa, avocado, and nice bits of ham. Heterogenous so every bite was a little different, just right portions for the dish. Coffee was hot and you get a carafe at your table which is great. This was my first meal my first time in Chicago. I was very busy inside. I came around 10 am on a Friday. It was just me so I was able to be seated right away. Food was great. I ordered the combo with banana nut pancakes, scrambled egg whites with cheddar, bacon and turkey sausage. All excellent except that the egg whites were smothered in cheese. So much so that I couldn't taste the eggs. Price was good. The service left much to be desired,however. I watched my waiter check on all the tables around me and he never looked in my direction unless I waived him down. read more

It's OK. A bit pricey, but in the building of a family member's new condo, so it was the breakfast spot on a recent painting weekend. I selected the breakfast poutine, which was appropriate as one of those family members has a) never heard of it and b) turned her nose up at it. Even thought it was take out, and thus in definite danger of becoming soggy, it was pretty good. Large cut french fries, nice spicy sausage gravy, and what I guess I would call almost tempura fried cheese curds - the batter was very light and fluffy. So this was a good option. Another diner had a crab omelette, which needed some work. Some salt and pepper would go a long way. Maybe a little old bay? There are probably a bazillion breakfast spots in Chicago. And this restaurant is also about a 20 second walk from an outstanding grocery store. So I would probably hunt around before coming back. But I think Eggy's is serviceable...if, as Sue T notes, you can find your way inside. read more

Stopped in here for a breakfast visit while visiting Chicago and so glad we did! Got there on a rainy Saturday morning and the wait was about 20 minutes, not bad. Ordered the Irish skillet (sans cheddar because I'm off dairy for now, boo) and gave the pancake that came with it to my friend (but I did have a bite of the Nutella crepes and they were spot on). OMG, my meal was fantastic! I love when I ask for over easy eggs and they get it right. The hash was perfect (albeit, needed a little salt but I like my food heavily salted anyway so I'm sure it would taste fine to others) and I didn't need to eat again until dinner that night. Our local friend recommended this place so we went and gave it a try. It was quite disappointing, meaning there wasn't any "Wow" factor. First, my husband ordered build your own egg white omelette and they were out of egg white at 09:30 in the morning. So he ordered bagel and lox instead, the bagel came out cold and one of the servers knocked over the glass and spilled everything on the table, fortunately our food didn't get any water on it. My Eggy's panini was ok, nothing special about it. I would have given it a 2 star experience, however Eggy's earned three stars because of their service, they took 50% of our bill as a compensation for all the mistakes they made. read more

I was so excited for Eggy's. A diner within walking distance from my place. My daughter had gone and said it was wonderful. Well, fast forward to my visit. They changed the menu! Absolutely no original dishes. All I read about was their Benedict. Off the menu. We ordered their seasonal pancakes, multi berry. It was just a plain pancake, and moments later they brought to the table a dish with thawed frozen berries to pour over the plain pancake. That is terrible. Never again. My daughter and I had brunch here and it was great! The coffee was delicious and plentiful. I had a ham and cheese omelette that was huge and it came with potatoes and toast. She had a vegetarian panini and although it was a little difficult to eat she ate it all. I love the app they use to notify you when your table is ready. I went to Eggy's as a result of the great reviews. I decided to try the chicken and waffles. The chicken was served as a half of chicken, fried with a crisp breading. As I cut into the chicken, I noticed that it smelled very gamey, for lack of a better word. I thought to myself, maybe it's just extremely fresh chicken. When I tasted the chicken, it was not seasoned at all and it tasted as if the grease it was fried in hadn't been changed in ages. It literally made me nauseous. I love breakfast and I love good breakfast places, this is definitely a good breakfast place. I had to try their fried chicken and waffles. Such a simple yet odd combination. I still like Roscoe's in LA but Eggy's did a pretty good job with the dish. Fried chicken was really crispy and good and the waffles weren't soggy. They have small buckets of different kinds of hot sauces so I tried all of them with the fried chicken, habanero was my favorite. I really liked the benedict which my wife ordered too. One of the few times I liked it when I had to finish her food. pork belly on cornbread with the eggs and their special hollandaise sauce. Friendly casual atmosphere about a 3 minute walk from the Swissotel out the back door and through a tiny hidden oasis of trees and flora. I read reviews and even tho biscuits and gravy were not on the menu they obliged cheerfully . Despite being 8 am they also graciously served my husband gyros for breakfast! Very reasonable latte ... Cheaper and better than Starbucks . People of all ages .. Locals and tourists here. Kitchen seemed a little slow, but I was anxious to catch a train ! Came here morning after st pattys day. Was really hungover and could have eaten anything but what's better then Sunday brunch! The place is small and really busy on Sunday, but most places are for brunch. The wait was about a hour. My buddy lives really close by so we went back his place. But if the weather is nice there's a park right there in the middle you can chill at. The food was not bad. I got the pastrami hash which was okay. My buddies got the Spanish omelet and corned beef hash which was alot better. The pancakes are avg at most. Overall great staff, good food for people who live close by that is all. There are many better options for brunch in the city, that are worth the wait, this might not be well suited for people who do not live in the upper wacker community. read more

6/29/19. Went in for 3 Eggy Shakes to Go. Paid 18.45 incl tax. 30 mins later asked if they were close and they gave us 1 shake that looked like it was sitting around for 10 mins(cream has sunk into shake) after an hour still no sign of other shakes. Tried to get a refund but they took 10 mins and they charged me for the junk shake. BAD customer service, terrible shake. Eventually they refunded the other shake. It should NOT be this hard to get a good shake. NEVER AGAIN EGGY!! read more

Eggy's earns most of stars just for being what it is: a fun new restaurant in a somewhat isolated and often ignored neighborhood in Chicago. My parents live in Lakeshore East, and this is the first time I've felt compelled to venture into their hood to meet them for a meal. In actuality, Eggy's probably couldn't compete well in areas with similar establishments. But I think in Lakeshore East it will do well, and it was good enough that I'd consider going back out of convenience. It's cute inside, though definitely not "Mayberry" as I've seen it touted. It's not very big, but they've packed tables in pretty efficiently. The menu is fun, kind of a mix between breakfast and lunch (also known as brunch...haha). I had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was top notch, with a really light, crispy breading. The waffle, on the other hand, was just so-so - not very crisp, not very flavorful, average syrup, and I had to ask for butter. Just had breakfast from this place via GrubHub. My girlfriend and I ordered the green eggs and ham and the pastrami hash plus 2 sides of bacon. So 1st, the positives: Both entries were delicious! I can still taste the spicy tomatillo sauce from my dish so that's a will do again for me! The bacon was excellent, thick-cut slices that were a great value for the price! The easiest way to aggravate me with breakfast is to overcharge me for lame bacon and that wasn't the case here. So what's the negative? Every year I come to Chicago for a conference. Last year I came to Eggy's and I loved it. This this year I was happy to find out that the restaurant was still here, so I made sure to visit it. Well let me tell u it was better than the last time i visited and the service was incredible! Jason and Freddy were amazing. They added two new drinks to the menu, Baileys pumpkin latte and Abuelita hot chocolate with tequila. I tried my friends latte and it was also delicious and I hate pumpkins drinks so that should tell u how good it is. Who knew that abuelita hot chocolate could be made better. Well now on to the food the make your own omelette was delicious and the pecan banana pancakes were to die for. If you are in the area you need to stop by.
