The staff helped us put together a bunch of tables on the patio so we could all sit together, which worked out perfectly. The servers did seem a little confused at times about which dishes went where, which I think is understandable since we were such a big group. At one point a dish came out that nobody had ordered, but they were really nice about it and just took it back. I ordered the dak galbi and shared it with a friend. The portion was big enough for two and came with rice cakes and veggies. Personally, I thought there were too many onions and veggies and would have preferred more rice cakes and chicken, but overall it was still good. One nice touch was the free appetizers they brought out at the start. We got popcorn, crackers, and marinated tofu, which was a fun surprise and tasty to snack on while waiting for our food. Ehwa is our GO TO spot for Korean bar type food for years. Though they no longer offer their combo meals and have had multiple rebranding/repricing within our economic conditions, their taste and generous portions have not changed and is still a reason why I still come back time after time. We had the Korean Sweet & Spicy Chicken, Yukhoe (korean-style beef tartare), and two types of soju (pineapple cocktail and green grape soju). Used to come here occasionally for their large back patio, but I hadn't been back in a while. I was surprised to see that since the last time I came (2022) their prices have increased a lot and they also removed their drink+food combos. Now one mixed drink (gin and tonic) is $11! Which is a fairly steep price comparable to much nicer bars and restaurants. The benefit of Ehwa is that they do give you complimentary snacks - popcorn, shrimp chips, mayo corn and fries. This pairs nicely with drinks. Ehwa used to be quite busy during the summers because of their patio but this time we went it was completely empty. Not sure if it's because of the higher prices now, but my friends and I were disappointed with the value. I'm surprised this spot is not reviewed more, perhaps a hidden gem amongst Koreans? This spot is frequented by mostly Asians who are younger working professionals/students. When you enter it's dark pumping with music almost like a club but there's actually a cosy and relaxed patio at the back. I highly recommend to check out the patio! It's a great environment for a date or even a group friends to catch up. Even though people are in their own "cliques", from our experience, they are friendly and sometimes engage in conversation with you (we're not Korean btw). The price is reasonable with a variety of combos, great for sharing - you choose one main dish and it comes with fries and refillable snacks (popcorn, buttery/cheesy corn, tofu, etc) and drinks (4 beers or 1 bottle of soju) to share. All for about $23-$30 depending on the dish you choose. It is enough to feed two people if you're not too hungry/not big eaters. Love the corn!! We got the spicy pork (~$26 with the combo) but the other dishes look good too! There are only like 1 or 2 servers for the whole patio so expect slower service but it's faster if you order more drinks haha. Near the end of our meal, we wanted the bill and it was extremely hard to get the waitress's attention. There were now two other tables and maybe she was a bit overwhelmed? Anywho, my bestfriend said excuse me and even tried waving her down.. we eventually got her attention. She wasn't terrible but it wouldn't hurt if she smiled once or twice during the visit. They also have a number of complimentary apps such as popcorn, kettle chips, and bananas. Not the most ideal but they fill you up ... and are free! Service - I was approached as soon as I entered and ushered to my friend's table, which was set up in a heated cylindrical tent behind the building. The waitress refused our request, claiming that they anticipated larger groups arriving soon. After nearly two hours, there were still multiple empty tables. We ended up having to squish all our platters, with one person at the end of the table. Apart from the service, the food was at par with what I would expect from a Korean bar restaurant.. Visited here a few weeks ago for a friend's birthday and had one of the WORST experiences to date. We booked a reservation 3 days beforehand and on the day of, we called to confirm and to ask if it was alright if we arrived late - the worker stated that it was no problem at all. When we got there, we told the server we had a reservation for 8 PM.. the server looked extremely confused and stated that there were no reservations for that time. After going back and forth with the server, he finally asked if part of our group was already seated. We stated that we were the first ones to get here, and he said that a group had already walked in for their 8 PM reservation. After explaining the situation to the manager, the server told him "I think these people are lying" in Korean. The server literally jumped to conclusions thinking we were LYING about making a reservation - the workers did not care at all but as soon as I started speaking Korean the manager directly confronted the server, asking for more details. The server stated that a group had walked in and he asked them if they reserved under OUR phone number - to which they replied, "yes". Pretty stupid to give out our number like that - we easily could've avoided the whole problem if he had just asked them for the phone number instead. After waiting about 10 minutes, the worker finally came over and said that a small table is now available but only 6 of us would be able to be seated... and the rest of our group would have to wait for another table to open up. He also stated that unfortunately, this table would not have direct heating. We asked why it was fair for us to wait while another table stole our reservation and the manager said that they cannot take back our table because the group had already started eating. This was pretty ridiculous to hear considering the fact that we booked a reservation days before, some other group JACKED our table, and now we have to suffer the consequences of the restaurant's mistake. Half of our group got seated and after waiting nearly HALF AN HOUR, we confronted a different server about the issue and her response was literally just "a table finished paying for their meal so we can bring in the other half of your group soon". I have never seen any business handle things SO unprofessionally. Just imagine making a reservation for a birthday days before, confirming that reservation the day of, then arriving and waiting nearly an hour because a different group STOLE your table while the restaurant does nothing to help. Wouldn't the proper solution be to give us our reserved table? Obviously all three of the workers didn't agree as they gave us the exact same response: wait for a different table to open up so we can get seated. Although the food was decent, the service was extreeeemely slow - we ordered alcohol and after reminding the server twice, it finally came 45 minutes later. I understand the place is gonna be busy on a Saturday night but 45 minutes for alcohol? Consider the fact that we booked our reservation at 8 PM thinking we had plenty of time before last call (11 PM), actually got seated by 9:30, and then waited 45 minutes for alcohol... pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I used to come here pretty often but I think it's safe to say I'll never ever revisit again. Even though the chances of this whole ordeal happening again are very slim, the amount of unprofessionalism especially in a business like this is unbelievable - personally, I would never support a restaurant that obviously does not care for its customers. Had the chance to check out this place on a Friday night for a late dinner. Made reservations for 11:30pm and I'm glad I did as it was really busy inside. It was raining outside so we couldn't use the outdoor patio. I've heard reviews saying the service is slow and its true, this is because the place is understaffed. I think there was 1 or 2 waiters for the entire place, so you'll need to hunt them down to get your order in. Plus there isn't anything to indicate they worked there, they just wore all black. But once we made our orders, everything came out pretty quick. We ordered the Takoyaki (fried battered balls with pieces of squid inside) as a starter and the spicy chicken with cheese on a hotplate. Both were excellent. The chicken arrived piping hot and really spicy so make sure you are good with spice. You also receive a few snacks in the beginning (popcorn, kimchi, etc) that you can munch in-between.
