I think the food was overpriced for what it was but nothing was stale, it seemed pretty alright. Our server Missy was attentive and nice with us. I'm giving it 3 stars mainly because I'm a huge room without trying to eavesdrop I heard a server talking incessantly about how tables were crazy tonight. Everyone has hard days and I'm SURE working in a service job can be rough but I don't think you should be talking about it so everyone can hear you. It kind of ruined it for me. I don't know, it's not a very welcoming feeling if you think people are going to talk badly about you. It sort of looks like an old Kings building. The bar is huge, the flowers were beautiful. Be confident that everything is great! My wife's fav is the chicken Milanese salad. Mine is whatever their fish of the day is! Salads and vegetables delicioso'! Service is excellent. They even have a maitre'D. He's very professional. Owner/Chef is always on site. - He knows his stuff! His wife is nice as well. Just be careful pulling in and out of the parking lot. I actually recommend, if you have the clearance, to go in the "out" and out the "in", although you want to make sure no cars are approaching when you do that. Ambience is nice. Bathrooms have been remodeled. It's always clean and well-maintained and the outside seating is very nice weather permitting! read more

This place was excellent. I loved the homemade gnocci bacon appetizer and salad and my husband really enjoyed his bratwurst. Deliciously scratch made and overall very enjoyable. I would highly recommend and am looking forward to our next visit. Staff was friendly and service appropriately paced. Also seem to have good COVID measures in place. read more

Nice casual place with a friendly staff and customers. The menu is a little more upscale contemporary and innovative American. We stopped at the bar for a drink and decided to stay there due to the great bartender and some of the other customers near us. There were a few empty tables. This is the type of place I could stop by once in a while and have a drink and some some of the snacks or dinner at the bar. The Braised Wild Boar on house made ricotta gnocchi was a good choice. It had some spice flavor from some dried chiles but some sweetness too. Some of the desert looked great but was to full to indulge. Sorry EAK&B is not in my neighborhood. read more

Finally had been able to wine and dine at this restaurant that is 1 mile from my house , and I'm glad I did. My husband and I enjoyed the Malbec, grilled flat iron steak with roasted potatoes/cauliflower (steak temperate done perfectly) , and their lobster clam chowder . All exquisite and presenter/tasted wonderfully . The place is small but you can assume this from the outside . Atmosphere gives both a feel of upscale / modern but casual at the same time . The server was very nice and handled being busy pretty well (I can't recall her name but pretty female with glasses). The price for dinner entrees is about $20-$30, excluding the vegetable and burger option. We will be back to try some other menu items, particularly interested in their Sunday brunch ! read more

Service and food are equally phenomenal. Nice atmosphere and mood with live music. Entering the restaurant feels like entering someone's home. It's was an all around warm experience. Shrimp corndogs: The batter is good enough to eat by itself and it was perfectly browned. The shrimp on the inside is still juicy and fresh even though it's battered. Shrimp risotto: Very flavorful, buttery risotto and great shrimp (again). Harvest cake: Such a great combination of fruit. The icing is not overly sweet. We went here on a Wednesday with a reservation and it was super busy. With that said, you definitely need a reservation. You may also want to take into account that even with a reservation they might not be ready for you to order until 5-10 minutes after your reservation. It is not hard to see why they are such a popular place to be however and I definitely recommend going here if you are looking for a creative combination of healthy and high quality ingredients. The "gathering board charcuterie" had an interesting assortment of crispy pickled vegetables, a touch of preserved meat, local honey (with the honey comb and all), olives, three different cheeses (cheddar cheese, mustard cheese and blue cheese) and just two brick oven baked crackers which I kind of wish they had more of. My absolute favorite was the special, which included sea scallops with yellow tomato gazpacho, apple and kohlrabi salad, pickled shallots and lemon oil. The scallops were huge and cooked to perfection and the other ingredients were super light and refreshing. You felt healthy after eating it and it was something I never would have thought to make at home. I also really enjoyed the vegetarian option, which included brown rice fritters with roasted vegetable black bean hash and horseradish cream. Super yummy and healthy at the same time. The fritters were nice and crispy without being too oily and the generous serving of vegetables were also very flavorful. None of the food was too heavy. Even the shrimp corn dogs and tiramisu were light and fluffy. Although the prices were good for the quality of the food I do wish the serving sizes could have been a bit bigger... I definitely would not have felt full without also ordering an appetizer and dessert. read more

Repeat visits just keep reminding us how much of a true treasure this restaurant is in any of the Pittsburgh area, but especially in Plum. For us Monroeville residents, there aren't a whole lot of non-chain choices so to come here is like finding water in a desert -- very refreshing and needed. Tonight's fare for us was crab cakes for me with a side salad and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and the daily special of shrimp risotto and a glass of Merlot for my husband. Service, presentation, ambiance, food scrumptiousness all on target. The main reasons for updating my review are twofold -- 1) to say that this visit was on a Thursday and there was live music -- a bass, guitar, and singer. It was lovely music and especially nice while dining. We were going to dine outdoors on their patio but opted for inside when we noticed that trio playing and 2) to say that this venue participates in the Yelp cash back program. This is the first time I've participated, too. Search for cash back in Yelp and link your debit or credit card to the program. That's it. That's all you have to do. This particular restaurant provides 10 percent of your purchase back to you on that credit card. It's the next day and we've already gotten an email regarding the money back. Sweet. Ten percent back at this venue is very worthwhile. read more

Beautiful restaurant with cool outdoor seating. The service was warm, welcoming and attentive. We also had a nice table side visit by the co-owner. The cocktails were creative, and the wine list was on target. The food was outstanding! We started with the Coyote Queso which had a little spice but was so very very good. We also really enjoyed the Roasted Beet salad which was extremely fresh and had terrific flavors. We then went the pasta route with my beautiful bride having the Bolognese, which she said she would share but after her first bite she reneged on the promise. She loved it! I had the awesome Tagliatelle with delicious pasta, sauce and tons of fresh seafood. After all of that we had zero room for dessert, but we indulged anyway. Boy, are we glad we did; the warm blueberry cobbler with a dollop of vanilla ice cream was the perfect way to end the perfect meal. We will be back! read more

Another time I ordered the salmon with lentils: wholesome but swoon-worthy! My son, the carnivore in the family, got braised short ribs and nearly licked his plate, and on another occasion, he ordered wild boar stew, after which proclaiming wild boar to be a new fave meat! This is another difficult review... on the outside it's a bit run down looking and really needs some tlc and it wouldn't take much. From the outside it is not inviting and it certainly doesn't look like a place you would go for $30 plates of food. The inside is much more inviting, clean and comfortable. Except waiting awkwardly in the hall not knowing if you should just sit down or wait. Finally the bar tender welcomed us in but we wanted a table and waited for a server to seat us, and they really weren't busy. The female server we had wasn't very friendly, and could use a bit more customer service training. Neverless we ordered. The husband and I both picked the Bison burgers with fries since one they were a cheaper option on the menu that actually sounded appealing an seemed it would be filling. We both wished there were better and more selections. When the food came it looked good, but even the burger was a smaller one... it tasted very good.. even though I ordered well done and it was still bleeding in the middle. We had waited a bit for food so I just ate around since I was so hungry. Its kind if a shame since the part I ate was very good. Maybe we will try it agian. We both left still kinda hungry and stoped for froyo down the road, but for a bill over 50 bucks I don't think that should have happened. read more

We have been here many times and never once had anything to complain about. In fact quite the opposite, everything is always wonderful, tasty and delicious. Great service, great food, nice little not too big restaurant ambiance. They are very good so the get very crowed on the weekends. You will see newbies and lots of regulars there. Once you dine there you will want to go back for sure, ergo all the regulars. You could walk in and get seated, as we have a time or two without too much wait, or better get yourself a reservation. You will find good drinks and a small well designed and executed menu. This is not a mass production operation, everything is made to your order so enjoy a refreshment and an appetizer before your main. The daily specials, which they always have something pleasant and new will be written on the chalk board and also will be recited by your server. My favorite from the regular menu has always been the Scottish Salmon. Always cooked to perfection and the soft mild Salmon melts in your mouth, but with a perfectly seared light crusty outside to give the best contrasting mouthfeel. All the preparations are special to that dish and almost always works and pares perfectly. The menu features Meats, Fish, Duck and Pasta created upscale by not fu fu pretentious. You can also find some great soup specials and there is always a good vegetarian option. Eighty Acres is family owned, chef'ed and operated. Their name, reputation and integrity is on the line every day, and they do not let that slip one inch. Eighty Acres deserves credit for creating a great dining oasis in the East and is a must in the East for fine dining in and unpretentious and very enjoyable atmosphere. read more

This place is bougie . They try to make it high end and try to make it modern and fancy, but it looks a lot like an old pizza restaurant that got a quick flip makeover. The outside of the building doesn't look like anything was done to that to "fancy" it up. I've been here twice. The first time was a few years back for Valentine's day. I recall it being pretty good back then but I guess I didn't get around to writing a review. The last time we came I was treating my husband to dinner on his birthday. The place seemed to have gone downhill. From the get go I order a Coffee Manhattan, it was off their cocktail specialty list and I have never said this about any drink I have ever order but I couldn't finish it. It was so off-putting that I just sipped on it throughout the dinner and left the remaining concoction on the table when we left. Usually I'm debating getting a second one and this drink made me sad. Either the bartender wasn't doing something right or something was spoiled cause it was really just bad. Next I ordered the soup of the day that to my recollection was a vegetable based soup with a tomato style broth. It tasted like it came from a can. Or at least most of its ingredients did. Also incredibly salty, so again canned veggies come to mind. Sorry it was just not good. For my entrée I went with the mussels, * herb roasted tomatoes, butter beans, basil pesto, grilled ciabatta. This was by far the best part of the meal. The mussels were fresh and the sauce was flavorful but it was so rich. So much butter went into that broth that I couldn't finish it up with the crusty bread as I like to do when eating mussels. Had to call it quits after that. Could have been an off night but this was not the most enjoyable meal. I think my husband enjoyed his dish and the service was also good. Not sure yet if we would come back, but I know what I wouldn't get again. read more

We came here for my birthday and my wife set up reservations about a month before. We got here about 7pm on a Wednesday. It was busy when we got here but the bar was open. Since we had reservations we still asked to be seated at a table. This was the second time that we had been here but it's been awhile since our first visit. If we come here again I think I would rather sit at the bar. The tables here are close together and the bar looks more inviting. We ordered drinks and browsed the menu. We kind of knew what we were going to get before but they did have specials for the day. I decided to go with the Salmon. This restaurant is confusing to me because I think they are going for a really nice restaurant in Plum. The problem is you get a mixed flow of people coming here from work in professional attire , or a couple on a date, and then you get a guy in a cut off with his loud kids coming here for dinner. I have no problem with either one but I'm just not sure what type of restaurant they are going for. I have heard this from other customers too. With the prices being on the higher side they are going for high quality in my opinion. Anyways our food came and my salmon was good. I was hungry and it just wasn't enough food for me. I should have ordered an appetizer or something to start. I usually know that but I thought the salmon would have been enough this time. The service was ok and I had a nice time out with my wife for my birthday. If you are in the plum area I do recommend trying this restaurant it is better than most in the area. Great place just east of city with a Pittsburgh address. From the main road, it does not look promising but it was worth the small detour from where we were. It was early and still happy hour so I got a glass of Pino Grigio for $5. My dining partner and I split the queso appetizer with chorizo and poblano. It was served with flat bread chips. The chips were a bit crunchy and I would have preferred something softer with which to scoop the spicy dip. The duck entree was well conceived and executed - a medium duck breast served with French lentils with duck confit, sweet and sour red cabbage, some roasted sweet potato and mustard and onion confit. The hanger steak was also very good, served medium rare with fingerling potatoes and compound butter. For dessert we split a slice of autumn cake, three layers of cake - carrot, pumpkin, and banana- with a cream cheese icing. Very good. Service was good. Atmosphere is casual and fresh. While the parking lot was empty at 5. the bar and dining room was full when we left. There appeared to be lots of Friday night regulars here. read more

These opening sentences give you a breath of my culinary enthusiasm. Eight Acre Kitchen is a magnificent restaurant! Every detail from the beautiful interior with perfect lighting to the cool hammered look flatware is well thought out. I must add I was absolutely impressed with how everything blends together harmoniously. The menu is a collection of hearty and delicate dishes seemingly very well executed and served by the most wonderful staff imaginable. I enjoyed Polenta fries with an onion compote that was a brilliant blend of crisp yet fluffy polenta logs and the sweet and tangy onions with a cracked peppercorn like nothing you've ever tasted before. I ordered a pork shank from the special menu with mashed potatoes and a sautéed red cabbage. This dish was unbelievable perfection. The pork shank was tender yet firm and fell apart and melted in your mouth. To combine it with the sharp cabbage reminded me of actually eating in a country farm house. In this time of Covid-19 we were pleased to find that our favorite area restaurant has weathered the challenge of meeting the needs of takeout. The menu was designed for simplifying a new experience for many of us. Prepared and packaged for easy bag to table once home it allowed the whole experience to be quite pleasant. Their food is always good and the best this time was their chicken and dumpling soup. With added spinach it was right there on their top ten list of excellent soup recipes. Our virtual dinner with friends was just about as good as the real thing considering the food experience we enjoyed at our table. read more

Went a few months back with some work colleagues - first time visit for us all. Let me tell you they did not disappoint. Spicy margarita to start was very good. The gnocchi appetizer - best gnocchi I have ever had, hands down. They were huge and pillowy and the sauce was so decadent - I could eat that as my meal any day of the week. Make sure to add bacon. We all tried specials that night - the shrimp risotto was ver good as was the hanger steak (though a tad too salty for one of my counterparts) All in all - a great venue with nice ambience and we will definitely be going back! read more

This place advertised local farm to table fresh food so we stopped here for lunch after a church conference. The restaurant was small, modern and clean. They offered a very small lunch menu. I had a burger as did one of my companions and the other chose the chicken sandwich. I had a side salad with mine and my friends both chose fries. The portions were extremely small but we enjoyed our meals. I would say the burger was 3-4 ounces and the salad was only a small handful of spring mix with a few golden raisins and very few vegetables. I found it strange that the didn't offer ranch dressing and only had three dressings to choose from. (A Caesar, a citrus and a wine vinaigrette) it was definitely what I would consider a light lunch. read more

I'm so happy that I found this restaurant and that we decided to try it last weekend! The outside of the building doesn't look like much, but inside it's very cozy and comfortable. The wait staff was very attentive and always made sure that our drinks were full. The bar is awesome and has a great layout that cultivates interaction between patrons who sit at it. I had the Amish Chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. My husband had the grilled meatloaf with horseradish mashed potatoes and we both agreed that his meal was the best of the two. Both dishes were flavorful and satisfying. My only complaint is that we felt that the portions were a bit small. Neither of us were totally "full" after having cleaned our plates. I will be happy to bring my parents here when they're visiting from out of town I'm sure they would love it as well! read more

My first visit here and I'll be back. The restaurant, quite unassuming from the outside, is so charming inside. I ordered the rose sangria, which was outstanding. House salad with cabernet vinaigrette was very fresh with just the right amount of dressing. I ordered the crab cakes, and they were delicious. My only complaint is that the broccolini was inedible. I don't think it had been steamed at all, and I literally couldn't cut the stalks with a steak knife. I'm not a big fan of broccolini so I didn't care that much. It's lovely that there is a kind of restaurant like this off of Golden Mile Highway, but too bad it didn't impress me much. Decor was very upscale rustic and menu is very simple. Hubs and I went here for our anniversary and they don't do anything special. With entree prices starting at $25 - $35, there's not even free bread. It's rather cramped inside and our 2-person table was TINY. I could hear every word from the table beside me. Our waitress was brisk and the very phony-nice type. She said the polite things she's supposed to say but refused to make eye contact and didn't check in very often. Drink menu is super overpriced and small. My wild boar presentation was gross. It was muddy, monochromatic and turned into a game of try to find the meat! I was surprisingly full afterwards so I guess the portions were on point. My wife and I had dinner here this weekend. It was our second time dining at Eighty Acres. The first time there was quite pleasurable- the food, the service. This last time though upset me severely. I doubt that we will return. Let me detail our experience. At first, everything was great. The two waitresses seemed extremely busy (they were literally running around between the kitchen and the tables), so the hostess took our drink orders. Then my wife and I each ordered the shrimp cocktail and the lobster and clam soup. The shrimp cocktail was scrumptious. The shrimp were plump, fresh and tasty. The soup had a good flavor but was overly filled with potatoes. I mean, there were more potatoes than actual soup. And the potatoes were crunchy, as if they were not cooked which led us to believe the restaurant was running out of soup and threw in a ton of potatoes as fillers. For dinner, my wife ordered salmon. She had no complaints. I ordered their hamburger. I've been craving a good hamburger, something I don't have often so when I have a hankering I go to a good restaurant and am willing to pay for it. Primarily because I like my burger as rare as legally possible. This requires quality meat. Well, my burger arrived WELL DONE!! Further, I asked for the french fries to be well cooked (brown). Nope! So they got my order completely wrong. I was livid. Yes, I complained to the manager. No, I didn't trust them to do it over. The manager did the right thing and took the burger off the bill. I don't blame the waitress. She remembered how I ordered the burger and agreed of the error. I took care of her and left a good tip. But I doubt that we will be returning. It's a shame. I really wanted to like Eighty Acres because it's two miles from our house. read more
