Today I find it necessary to reach out regarding a incident which occurred today at your location on Pickett and Main Street in Fairfax, VA on 11/30/19. I frequent this location on average of five days per week as I maintain a business in the same shopping center. I would say my average transaction per visit is $10 to $15 depending if I am bringing items home. This may not seem like a lot of money over the course of a year to a large corporation, but I am just one client. In my business it is my frequent clients who pay my rent and employee salaries and not a one time customer. However, I treat each client equally as all business is necessary in todays environment. I entered and ask for a toasted bagel, fruit cups were not out so I inquired as a staff member was retrieving one from your backroom. The General Manager, Darlene Jones, who pulled the bagel ask if that would be all, I wasn't sure as I was waiting for the staff member to check on the fruit. I told her for the bagel I would just put honey on it that was always out near the coffee and soda machine. I was getting ready to get some muffins and bagels for my family to take home when Ms. Jones told the cashier to make sure and ring me up for the honey, that honey is not free and that I always try to get something for free! I told Ms. Jones I there nearly every day and that I use the honey as it there on the counter like a condiment. Ms. Jones then said it is free to those who order a drink. Now at this pointI haven't even checked out, and informed Ms Jones of this of course I need a drink with my food. Again I said I am here nearly every day to which she proceeded to interrupt me and said, No you are not, you come in here every Friday and order the same thing and you always take the honey for free. Now I am so completely astounded by her conversation as all eyes from other customers are on us both. I said never mind I don't want anything now. This may seem like a petty situation but I don't understand how a Manager of a business finds it necessary to berate a senior and basically call them a thief. I own a business and understand there are cost involved in running a location but this situation was so uncomfortable I would never enter this location with Ms. Jones on staff. Would you tell a client they cannot have a napkin because they haven't ordered food yet? Maybe the toddler has a runny nose. This is how I felt. I also understand the difficulties in hiring and retraining employees is a expensive time consuming process, so overlooking some things are important to keep the store open and running efficiently. Numerous other times when visiting when she is on staff I have felt a tension from her. I am a member of JCCNV and your partnership is 10%, when inquiring for the discount she would just be rude and wouldn't apply, to the point I just stopped mentioning it. I think if you offer annual training in consumer interaction, dealing with conflicts, etc. it could greatly help the atmosphere in your store. Again, may seem like a very minor thing, yet being called a thief and liar in front others is rather poor customer service. read more

I went in today around 4:00 PM and there was an older guy working as the manager and a girl at the counter. The manager was rude and kept calling the girl "beautiful" instead of referring to her by her name...personally, I don't want to be a customer for a man who treats his female employees like that. read more

Okay so second time here, first experience wasn't smooth either but after today I feel compelled to share. It just took me exactly 35 minutes to through the line and get a sandwich. It's NOT the staff, it's NOT having enough workers. There are two people working hard to serve 40 plus customer in line. Once you get your sandwich there won't be any coffee, cream, or milk! I had to pour a medium roast that I didn't want!!! Stay away from this place unless you're willing to spend 35 minutes plus in the morning! It's a shame because their food is good. Hire more people, you can't run this place with two workers that are cashiers, cooks, cleaners, bakers, and coffee makers at the same time!!! read more

I agree the place needs to be cleaned more, for sure, and they started to pop chairs up on tables when we got there at 2pm. As far as service, Jermaine was very friendly. In fact all the employees were, and my pumpernickel bagel was yummylicious. Every time that I come in, I am pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the staff-- even first thing in the morning. My food has always arrived pretty quickly and it's good. They have lots of options for different tastes, calorie counts on the menu, juices and drinks, and fresh fruit if you want to supplement. The dining area is clean, and a manager circulates to check on guests. I took off one star because, as the other reviews mention, the line does get pretty long if you go during a rush. Decent coffee. A step up from 7/11 anyway. Bagels? LOL!! They're not to bad but the scrape of cream cheese they give you basically leaves you with a plain bagel. I literally bring my own bagel with Cream cheese from home and leave it in the car while I at least get a quick coffee. Don't bother with the food. I've heard it from their own mouth about "portions" as an excuse to ding you on sandwich content. You can tell the bacon is always made from the day before. The service was great, and the workers very nice, but the product was only ok. We bought a bakers dozen half onion and and plain bagels. The bagels were small and the worker noted that and gave us a free one to compensate. When we got home, the bagels didn't really have the center hole, but a swirl such that it looked like a bun. They didn't cut well in the bagel cutter - smashing instead -so we had to use a bread knife. The prepared cream cheeses were also a little funny, the color was due to the mixing of ingredients, but the texture seemed a little grainy as if they had used powdered ingredients like garlic powder or such. The assistant manager (an older gentleman) was rude and dismissive to me when I placed my order, then a very basic item ordered was wrong (a plain bagel with nothing on it - how do you mess that up?). Skip it. You can get the same low quality food cheaper and faster at one of the fast food places around the corner. I wanted to like this place. I visited in the past and remember being unimpressed. This recent visit I was very disappointed. First, I ordered my sandwich on a freshly baked bagel I saw them being out. The person at the cash register told me that's ok but never told the person making the sandwich. Strike one. Then they gave my food to the wrong person. That's an understandable mistake because some guy thought he heard his name. But, the guy went to remake my sandwich put one egg and not the two I paid. Then he doesn't toast it like I asked for. He just microwaved it. Microwaved bagels taste like rubber. Strike two and three. Then, I go to get my coffee and it was so hot I couldn't pick up the cup. This is a common sign of a place that doesn't care about quality. Places like this blast the coffee way too hot so they don't have to refresh it until it's empty. Last strike. They don't compete with fast food places on price or speed and the food quality is no better. read more

Been coming here for years and each time lately the quality goes downhill. Today was the last straw. They gave my husband literally a sliver of salmon on his nova lox bagel. I called to tell the manager and he claims it is a recipe change and now they only give 1.5oz of salmon. I weighed the salmon at home on a kitchen scale: 0.8oz. My bagel was borderline burnt and I was given hardly any cream cheese. Iced coffee was more watery than Dunkin. I do frequent catering orders with Einstein's throughout Northern VA and the Fairfax location is my favorite one to order catering from. Every time I arrive to pick up my catering, my entire order is packed, ready to go and most importantly: correct. My schedule runs very tightly and this is crucial for me. In almost every other location I double check my entire order to make sure everything is there, but the Fairfax location has gotten it right over and over - I'm in and out within minutes! read more

I really like some of the staff that works at this einstein, however its always short staffed and the line takes forever and they frequently run out of bagels... Ive had my order incorrect countless times, sometimes it ends up ruining my morning at work. I only have smalls gaps of time to get food and when i get back to work to find out my whole order is messed up its quite the bummer. They need their staff to actually LISTEN to your order.. people lose money when they have to throw food away because its not correct. I will still continue to go to this einstein because the food (when its right) is good and the cashiers are always friendly ! Good bagels, but this is a dirty location. They need to clean the cutting board instead of putting bagels on top of old cream cheese and sandwhich scraps. Also, they don't stock all the flavors in the afternoon, so unless you want a dozen cranberry, go in the morning only. read more

Came here for a some bagels before going to class. The selection has extremely lacking and the staff were rude about everything. We asked for one type not knowing they were out and were rudely told they did not have it (eye roll and exasperated sigh). Finding a clean table was alsonextrmely difficult. Their bagels and smears are the best but the customer service needs some improvement. Some days you get someone who makes your bagel just the way you've asked them and some days it seems like they are on auto-pilot, even though it is not very busy, and they don't really listen when you tell them how you like you bagel to be made. Yes, I did ask for it to be double toasted and no, I did not ask it to be to go.. that can be a little annoying. And sometimes after you sit down you don't really feel like returning the bagel and ask them to make a new one. Something happened here: when it first opened many years ago, they used to serve hot bagels, good coffee and it was around 5 bucks. Now a breakfast for 2 adults runs into the 20 dollar range. During our last visit I joked with my boyfriend that I could finish my grocery shopping (for the whole week!) at the Trader Joe's in the same shopping center while he stood in line for our 2 sandwich order. Well sure enough I shopped, checked out and WALKED back to the einsteins and he had yet to even order. He was next in line. After standing over 25 to 30 minutes to order 2 sandwiches I decided our money and time was worth so much than the non existent service we have encountered the last 3 times at this location. The staff is overwhelmed so of course they can be snippy and the young lady that often works the register has the worst case of anxiety I've ever seen. After ordering you'll wait atleast 10 minutes for your bag and dont get too excited because that mess will most certainly be wrong. Not a happy camper. I'd been long craving some bagels, and since this bagelerie (pardon the nomenclature) is closeby, Hubby and I went on a Saturday afternoon to try out their bagels. We arrived at 2 PM to a pretty empty bagelerie. The person working there informed us that since it was St. Patrick's Day (it wasn't, it was 3 days prior) that all the bagels had been sold. I didn't really see the connection personally, but they did still have 3 green bagels in stock. Alas, my top 3 choices were out, so I went with an egg sandwich on their skinny everything bagel. Hubby ordered an actual sandwich (not sure why, we were at a bagelerie). We waited for a few minutes and were provided our orders. I was extremely disappointed with my bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel. The bagel was too salty to eat, the egg was too saltless to eat, and the bacon was just sad. Hubby's sandwich was mediocre at best. Overall, we did not have a good experience at Einsteins and will be probably looking for another bagelerie around us. read more

My husband and I ended up in the neighborhood after the wait at another restaurant was a little too long. I can always go for an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. The first time we went, the line was very long and didn't move. I mean it. didn't. move. Finally, we placed our orders and then had to wait in line to pay. Much to my surprise, that line actually took longer. My husband ordered a hot sandwich, and he received it and it had time to get cold before we could actually pay. I am an optimist and like to give places second chances, so we gave it another try a couple weekends ago. It was even worse. The food is decent, but it's just not worth the wait. The person at the register is a disaster. For some reason, they don't have someone to make the espresso drinks and smoothies, so he will take a the payment, make the drinks, and move to the next person. When there are 5 people helped to make sandwiches and bagels, it just doesn't makes sense to me to have 1 guy do the register and drinks himself. It just takes too darn long, especially if the three people in front of you all order drinks and you just want to swipe your card and take a seat. There are many other bagel places. I recommend trying somewhere else unless you have the patience of Father Time himself. read more

I'm usually a fan of Einstein, but this location disappoints. I've visited twice...once during the week an hour before closing and once on a Sunday about an hour before closing. Both times the staff seemed to be more concerned with doing their closing duties (an HOUR before closing) than helping their customers. More than half of the bagel selection was depleted. I asked for my bagels not sliced and received sliced bagels. I ordered a Veg Out Bagel (my favorite) and got home to find that it was missing tomatoes. I wish they would listen to their customers when they place their order. It seems that every time I go there I have to repeat myself. I went today and I think it was the manager/owner that served me. I could tell that I was not getting his full attention. I had to repeat myself - end even, then he got the order wrong. I asked for a bagel with turkey sausage and egg. I got one with what I wanted plus cheese. I told him that I did not want cheese and that I did not order it. His solution, open the sandwich and scrape as much of the cheese off as he could and handed it back to me. read more

I agree with Lissette. The products are good (4 stars). The service is really failing (one star). Wait times are really long. Management is super stingy here. I bought a bunch of non-spicy bagels and turns out there was a jalapeno and seeds in my bag. This caused a slight burn feel. They most likely reused a dirty bag. When I called to complain, they did show some concern but no apology. She seemed more concerned about their own stock of bagels than what they gave me. I even went back the next day to exchange the bagels and still no apology. The lady almost made me feel like I was the one that planted the jalapeno. After we had eaten one bagel we threw out another since we were really concerned that we didn't know what was going on at the time. We wasted half a tub of honey almond cream cheese and a bagel. There was no offer to replace anything except the three bagels I had in the bag. This was not the only negative service we've experienced. On another occasion, we were give an already toasted bagel when we had asked for just cut bagels. It's like they're REALLY trying to not waste any bagels or bags at their customer's expense. I'd say a third of the time, its been negative while the other two thirds has been just so-so. You'll need to have high tolerance to visit this place. read more

The bagels were half the size and twice the price of those at the nearby shoppers food bakery. AND THE PREMIUM PRICE PAID FOR CREAM CHEESE YIELDED A BARELY RECOGNIZABLE AMOUNT. Of the many fast food outlets I considered during the half hour wait, this would be bottom of the list for Price, Service, Cleanliness, Selection and quality of product. It used to be my favorite bagel place for couple years. I came today and asked if they have almond milk, a lady at the register said yes, and I ordered almond milk cappuccino with whipped cream medium size and she charged me for latte and then said it's ok, it's the same price. I got my "cappuccino" killed that whipped cream and realized there is just reg fat free milk and no coffee and moreover it's not hot at all. I came back and asked for new cup so I can get just regular coffee instead and this, lady dump that coffee and gave me the same cup back. All the coffee brewers were empty except the one with dark roast. I asked for refund and the cashier said she isn't capable so I asked to see a manager. When manager came in he only listened for her opinion about this issue but not mine. In front of me and a manager this lady said that I finished that cappuccino. She was smiling very sarcastic. Manager said that they won't return my money. I got very upset and left. That was actually not a first issue which this gentleman (a manager) I don't know his name, he didn't introduce himself.
