Came here for a quick lunch since I was in the area for work. It was pretty empty when we walked in but there was no host or server to seat us. After standing around awkwardly for a few minutes one of the bartenders finally noticed us and told us to sit anywhere. We sat down, server came over to take our drink orders... you could tell she had an attitude. Later on she pretty threw the straws in front of us when she brought our water. Service here was bad from start to end; she also took my plate away without asking me if I was finished. I wasn't going to eat the few tater tots I had left but what if I was? I ordered the Flaming Guacamole Burger. It came out pretty soggy and flat so it was definitely not a good looking burger. There was nothing "flaming" about it. Actually, there wasn't much flavor to it in general. The beef patty was pretty tasteless. Something tasted a little weird to me, I'm not sure if it was the poblano peppers, or the beef and tater tots being too oily. Anyway, my stomach punished me for eating this burger 5 hours later. I wouldn't come back here again. Everything from service to the food was less than mediocre. Maybe this is more of a bar place but if you are charging $15 for a burger I think you should put a little bit more effort. read more

Always amazing here!!! Food is excellent and the service never disappoints. Sometimes it's loud but it's a pub! I haven't had a bad meal there yet!!! Highly recommend this spot! read more

I'm giving this place two stars for one reason and one reason only. I was there earlier today for lunch, the food is always spot on. Drinks are great, beer is always cold and the service is great. I ordered a brownie to go and it's friggin raw! Legit raw, I get that there's fudge brownie's but this is a whole ' other level. I've worked in the restaurant business before and as a cook how can you give someone a raw brownie? Like, that's 100% totally your fault for sending the food out that way. I can't really blame the waitress because I don't know if she was the one that packaged it or the cook packaged it for her. But, c'mon as someone who sends food out of the kitchen, how can you give someone raw food? read more

Ordered last week via Grub Hub, never got our food. Ordered tonight on Postmates, fish and chips, added $4 for caeser salad and order of pork belly skewerS. Got cold fish with NO CHIPS, and the salad. Asked for extra tartar, nope. Pork belly, ONE SKEWER, COLD. Called restaurant who apologized AGAIN and offered a "discount" the next time we come in. Told them we ordered because we don't want to come in, told them I'm done, maybe dropped a cuss word don't remember totally incidental, hung up. She CALLED me back TWICE to chew me out and tell me she "didn't appreciate" my language. REALLY? $83 worth of shitty cold wrong food and she's calling me TWICE to tell me I'm rude, then says "I'm trying to work through a pandemic" whaaaaaa... welcome to the party sister, you don't know what I do for a living...how dare you?! read more

They just finished a big remodel so decided to give them another shot. The new space is lovely. Very open and inviting. Food and drinks were as delicious as they always were. Service was definitely improved. Still a bit slow but they've always been that way. They are definitely back on the list of places in my rotation. Hopefully the awful service from last time was an aberration that won't be repeated. read more

Love this place! Always outstanding customer service! Food is great and i recommend trying the Gorgonzola Waffle Fries along with their tasty wings!!! Environment is very clean and servers are always looking to help. Server i recommend is Corrie, she's always making sure everyone is comfortable and having a great time. There's no doubt I'll be back again! Thank you! read more

EJ's Pub - Bixby Knolls - Sports Bars Near Me - Long Beach, California

My wife and Have been coming here for over 7 years now. We moved to Norwalk 3 years ago and we still make the drive to come to this one specifically. It is still our #1 spot when we want to treat ourselves to something good and in a good atmosphere. read more

Today I had horrible service! Our server, Tea could have been great, but her customer service skills were lacking. She took my drink away while I was still drinking it ~MY WORD! We asked for the manager and she said, no she is too overwhelmed. Really? Ok. I am a local, come here often, but today was too much and we got here early before the First Friday crowd. Also another server reached across our entire table saying, you don't need this (condiments) do you as she had already rudely whisked it away. Best part of the evening was a male server that that came to visit us more than once and he was pleasant. read more

They don't let dogs on the patio. The staff claims it's because of health code but we just came from Rasselbock's and they let's dogs on their patio and the let dogs, give them a water bowl and even food for the dogs. All restaurants with outdoor patios let dogs except EJ's. So I don't understand why EJ's won't let dogs on the out door patio? I guess the health codes are different for restaurants just 2 blocks apart or EJ's just don't want dogs on the patio. Really? read more

Erin go Bragh-less! I was feeling so fine after Doc refilled my back pain meds and I was driving home when my falcon-like eyes espied a chalkboard with a scrawled "Rib Eye Steak & Chicken Breast $13.95". Well honey, mama ain't no fuckin' fool and two nanoseconds later, I was strutting through the front door. I was mildly concerned about a dress code thinking I might get hassled about my short skirt and bra-less tank top but once I entered, I saw that it wouldn't be an issue...I'm just happy it's a Monday night and not a Friday night. Monday night drunks are much easier to handle than gonzo drunk TGIF'ers who think they've been through hell all week and guzzle themselves into oblivion. I alighted onto a stool and flexed my talons. My JW (Black) came back mixed with ginger ale instead of water and was told that's what it was (water) so I walked over to the bar and told the bartender that he could drink the shit then. He said he believed me, poured it down the drain and I watched as he made my scotch and water. He'd used the wrong squirter thingie the first time. I returned to my perch where the waiter took my order and was about to run off when I stopped him and asked if he wasn't going to ask me how I wanted the steak. "Oh yeah, how would you like your steak?" "Medium rare, please." So it arrives well done, chewy and 1/3rd the thickness of the rib eye I'd grill at home. Normally, it'd go right back to the kitchen with a little love note but, like I said, I was feeling so fine so WTF and finished it off. It came with a bowl of decent New England clam chowder, baked potato, steamed veggies (squash, cauliflower & broccoli) and the grilled chicken breast. Most of it came home with me and all-in-all at $13.95, it was worth it, the chowder being the best thing about this meal. E J Malloy's has an Irish-influenced pub style interior with copper tabletops, dark woods, booze bottle mirrors and television sets everywhere showing every kind of sport there is but rugby and tennis. I don't pay any attention to any ball sports crap but one TV featured women's pro surfing in sizably juicy waves (looked like last Wednesday @ Trestles (did you see me?) and later highlighted Kelly Slater, the hunky 6 time world surfing champ who, instead of spending quality, sweaty time with me, chose some puffed up bimbo named Pamela Anderson to sweat with. What a chump! Anyway, it's an okay place right around the corner and a probable return-to when I'm in the mood for a Guinness or a Bass or a JW or a vodka martini or a B&B or an overdone rib eye, the kind any Irishman would be proud to serve as pub fare*. *In reality, Irish pub fare has notably improved from 20 years ago...it just hasn't caught on at Malloy's yet. Maybe after they read this... read more

The food here is pretty good, I usually get the corned beef... I wish I could give them more stars BUT.. Quick & Dirty: Bixby's little secret no more! Cold beer, hot wings, TVs, good service, what else could a guy ask for? Oh, maybe parking. Long & Regulated: Bixby, you've been holding out on me you gorgeous filthy little expensive neighborhood. Don't make me raise the back of my hand and slap you down! If I EVER find out that you have a cool sports bar and don't tell me again, I'll regulate. You hear? REG-U-LATE!!! Now listen here little Bixby... shhhh. I'll wisper... If there is one thing I'm a sucker for it's cheap yet tasty bar food. If there are two things I'm a sucker for it's rare and refreshing Ale's that I've never heard of. If there is three things I'm a sucker for it's warm brownies with caramel and fudge. If there is four things I'm a sucker for it's making a list of things I'm a sucker for. I had no idea that I was being held out on on ALL 4 Accounts! You little... Now get out of my life Bixby! GET OUT! I don't love you and I never have! Just leave me alone!! I will never speak your name AGAIN! Even though I have an E.J.'s right down the street from me here in Belmont Heights I should have known that there was another. With that said... The one in the-neighborhood-which-I don't-speak-of lives up to the same standards and then some. The neighborhood-which-I don't-speak-of locale has more dining tables and is a little bit bigger inside, BUT the one on Broadway is the original and I think has a better patio. The food is pretty good for bar food. I don't think it's fantastic but it is definitely appetizing. We had some buffalo wings that were tangy with mild and medium settings. I thought the medium was just right, but if you like them nuclear then they have that option too. For lunch I had the E.J.'s Special which was a sausage sandwich with fries. I wish I would have had something else. It was good but after seeing all the other good stuff on their menu, I should have picked something different. For dessert we had a Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae! YES! Brownies, fudge, Ice Cream, Whip Cream, Caramel! Warm gooey deliciousness!! The one thing that blew about this E.J.'s was the parking. We had to park on the street around the block and walk through the alley. The original E.J.'s has this same issue. Would I go here again? Sure. Should you go here? Yes. It's a cool place to sit and watch a game with some friends. Catch-ya-later! read more

NEVER AGAIN will my family visit EJ Malloy's in the Bixby area. We will NEVER refer our relatives, friends and other tourists to that business in the future Last Monday night my wife and kids got home a little late, around 1/2 time of the game, so i decided to get them out of the hot house and take them to eat out. The place was relatively busy but NOT PACKED. There were Lots of single and double seats around but only one table with room for 4 or more. That table had a reserved sign on it. As the 3rd quarter was starting and it was getting late, I asked the waitress if the table was still reserved....She told me YES that it was reserved for parties of 5 or more and we only had 4. Not reserved specifically for any group but just in case a group came in. I asked again saying, the game is 1/2 over and nobody is sitting there, can we sit there? She was very serious when she said NO we don't have 5 people in our party. Naturally we walked out without spending a penny there. I wonder if they would have liked our $$ (dinner for 4 plus wine and beer for the adults). WE WILL NEVER BE BACK!! 8/8/2011 update Is there a way to make this 0 stars? still haven't been back since last year and i don't miss it a bit! read more

ahhh. E.J's. it's like the hooker you come back to after months of driving 50 miles to a different town because you were "a little burned out of sylvia's ol' tricks". E.J's is your friendly neighborhood sports pub type bar. there are two E.J.'s in long beach (3411 broadway is the other), but in my opinion, the atlantic location is best. the decor is nicer and cleaner. the seats and tables are better situated for t.v. viewing and the bar seems bigger too. also, there is no way you can miss a t.v. at this place. yet, it doesn't feel claustrophobic in the way the other locale does. one thing the broadway locale does have over atlantic is an outside back patio. but then again, the atlantic location has outside curb seating if you want to bring your pets for sunday brunch. the tap beers consist of firestone double barrel, sam adams and sierra nevada. euro macros include newcastle, guinness, harp, smithwick's. there is also guinness combo drinks and ballast point yellowtail klsch, and 22oz bombers of reaper mortality stout and sleighor IPA. are you thirsty yet? neither am i. i am not fond of beer bellys. anyway, the food menu is pretty standard. house hamburgers and sandwiches and a few steak and chicken plates as well as your standard fish and chips. the last one being one of their staples as all tables are equipped with heinz vinegar for this meal. not to be missed are the battered shrimps. the cocktail sauce is made in house and is, as someone with an outdated culinary vocabulary would say, "delish". yeah. both resturants ( 4306 atlantic and 3411broadway) strive for the homey feel yet only the bixby location seems like a place you can go with either your buddies or family. service can be spotty at either one sometimes but for the most part, you don't notice it if you're eating and watching a game. both locations usually have more than one game/sport going on. so, if you're ready to give ol' sylvia another try, then try E.J's. read more

There's a time and a place to catch up with old friends about past/current disappointments, loves, intelligence and stupidity, all the while sipping on some cold brews and artery clogging food. The time: 1:30 pm on a hot, September day. The place: EJ Malloy's - Sportsbar/pub As soon as my friend and I entered, we noticed all the empty booths and tables. It was air conditioned quite nicely, but I told her, "uhm, let's eat outside. It smells like mop in here." She agreed and we got a table outside. A perfect sun was shining and a gentle breeze was making it's way through Long Beach just at that time. All was even better when our drink orders were taken almost as quickly as we arrived to our table. Their menu exemplified your traditional American pub style food and drink: beer this, draft that, imported here, guiness there, blue moons-r-us, sierra nevada something or other. I'm not really a beer drinker (aside from heineken light and tecate on special occasions) so the terminology means nothing to me - sorry! My friend ordered a Sam Adams and I, a delicious pear cider (hi, i'm a girly girl *shakes hand and bats eyelashes*). They had an assortment of sandwiches: philly cheesesteak, cajun chicken philly, grilled veggie, tuna etc. They also have your classic burgers. Just think of anything American with tons of calories and I'm sure they got it. Seeing as I was almost done with my first pint of cider and I'd be ordering another, I figured a healthy lunch was shot. So I ordered a philly cheesesteak sandwich. Seemed like a good "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" idea at the time. It was good. Decent. Alright. By the time i finished half of it and some of the oh, so crisp fries, I was done! Done squirming in my seat and pants. My stomach started (and really hasn't stopped) making all these funny noises. It was probably cursing me out. Aw, well. They have a one person bathroom, which I can tell generates quite the line when it's busy. Luckily for my pantalones, it was empty. I don't blame EJ's for the stomach experience. I haven't completely accepted, and definitely not embraced my lactose intolerance. So that's my fault. Next time, less cheese and more cider! Yes. I said next time. I have so much more venting to do. read more

I had the luck of trying this place out for the first time on St. Patrick's Day! I've been to many other pubs that were just as crazy on 3/17, but you would have to wait forever to get a bartender's attention and it would take eternity to get your drink. Not the case with EJ Malloy's! It was packed, but the bartenders were very attentative and quick. I can't say much for their prices, but being that it was a huge drinking day for all pubs, I'm sure they were a little inflated. read more

I'm not a bar gal or a beer gal. I'm a nice dinner and maybe a martini gal. This place had little appeal for me the first time I visited... And then I had the tomato, chicken & cheese soup and good, friendly service. Awesome! On another trip, for some bizarre reason, I ordered the fish & chips. Bizarre because I find the idea of eating fish sad and unusual. I'll eat chicken, I'll eat cow and maybe I'll eat some pork but I won't eat fish. Strange craving that day, though. Unfortunately, I only had a two cutlets before I realized what I was doing and stopped. They were delicious but I'm just not into fish. Whatever they fry the fish in has an unusual yet delicious flavor I have never encountered and probably won't again. Overall, I like this place. It's up the street from my house, which is another perk. read more

If I could give NO STARS, I would. Using a Living Social Voucher here was not only dissatisfying, confusing, frustrating, & a pain in the royal keister, but the wait staff were deplorably rude, ignorant, stubborn, & checked on us ONCE throughout the entire meal! :-( Simply arriving and attempting to use 2 different vouchers for 2 different parties at 2 different tables caused an argument, intransigence on the part of the server, and her insistence that we HAD to be one party, instead of the original purchaser and a "gifted voucher" recipient. The server tried to foist off the whole situation on "the rules", the security cameras in the restaurant, & the fact that she had "tried to accept more than one voucher when they were first issued and she got in trouble" from management. Excuses, blaming, lack of creativity, lack of customer service skills, & ignoring our table for almost 50 minutes all lead to the 1-star review. The food was OK/Average for pub fare--child's Chicken Strips and FF couldn't go wrong. Chili Burger w/ FF was fine as well. And so was Cajun Chicken Philly sandwich - albeit more greasy than necessary. It was the veggie burger - served with a large top-portion of tomato slice that still retained it's inedible, brown, fibrous core that was a major turn-off to the owner of the Living Social Voucher! All attempts to see if the server would check on us so that we could get it replaced, remove the sandwich from our order, or have the entire thing replaced, just went out the window...since she dropped off food and didn't return for 20 minutes - to start clearing off other diner's plates! (No supervisors or managers were on hand that night. No one else attempted to come over and smooth things out. Our table received slit-eyed dagger stares from the server--when she chose to even look our way, which was far and in-between.) The busser was friendly and willing to refill waters, checked-up on us at least 3 times - before the food arrived, right after, and to clear away dishes. HE received a tip directly from us. The server - didn't earn her tip, didn't SERVE us, and DEFINITELY influenced us to NEVER return to this location. The lack of supervisors/managers present on a Saturday night (allowing the "mice to play while the cats were away"!) also didn't leave us sitting well with the knowledge that the business was being run the right way - Customers First! E.J. Malloy's - get your staff trained to SERVE the customer, creatively resolve issues, and drop their attitudes at the door. Otherwise, you're just another greasy pub with lousy waitstaff and a plummeting reputation. P.S. Tell your waitstaff to ask customers WHICH location their Living Social Vouchers applied to FIRST, before bellyaching, blaming managers and others-not-present, and just generally being whiny workers. (This may have easily stemmed the tide of the ignoring server, the horrid attitude, and the lack of service or food quality!) read more

Dear Diary, EJ Malloys is a great sports bar with TVs in every corner of the room so there is no seat in the place where you need to turn your head to see a TV. Who the fuck cares about that though. The real reason to go to this place is there carne asada quesadilla and their gorganzolla fries. You can also get a Black and Tan (or a Half and Half if you're in Ireland and don't want to get your ass kicked) and they have drink specials every night of the week. It is worth going to if you're looking for an after work drink with some friends or something. Love, Jerri Blank read more

My favorite place in the Bixby Knolls to go grab a beer, and my favorite place ever to go for the buffalo wings: I go for either medium or nuclear, depending on my mood, and I get them well-done for the crispy-ness that I crave from wings. During happy hour, you can get a small (1 lb.) plate of wings (along with other select appetizers: nachos, quesadilla, DELICIOUS gorgonzola fries, or chicken fingers) all for under 5 bucks a plate, and a beer for 4 bucks. They also have a "Beer of the Month" every month for 4 dollars, which can be a great deal on certain IPA's and microbrews, or a nice lager. The Beer of the Month this month is Stella Artois, 4 bucks a glass. My friends and I often like to go here to begin our night with some wings and a couple beers while we watch whatever sports game happens to be on that night: they have every channel and always seem to know exactly when to turn on the right games. If not, you just request a certain game and they accommodate that request as quickly and sufficiently as possible. Go here for: Buffalo Wings, Gorgonzola Fries, Burgers, Beers, Good sports atmosphere, fun Happy hour details: weekdays are 3-6 pm and 9 pm- close, but the kitchen closes at 10. saturday night happy hour is 7 pm to close. read more

Been here twice since the remodel the bar. I used to frequent it often and loved the beer and food. Service was always good. Both times I've had bad experiences since. I was there yesterday which was a Friday. They were decently busy drinks were horrible beyond drinkable. We had to send back both. One they attempted to correct but it was obvious the didn't remake they just dumped more liquor in it. It was a margarita gone really bad. We finally just ordered beers figuring they couldn't mess that up. We asked for water 3x. We asked for silverware 2x. The waitress didn't apologize or acknowledge the bad drinks till we brought up. She did remove from our bill which we appreciated. It's not the same. Food was ok it was finger foods since it was after 10. We won't be going back service and drinks need work. It look great now but service not up to standard. read more

We were starving on Monday night and decided to go check out EJ Malloy's down the street. I had eaten there before but it was some time ago and I remembered it being good. So this time I noticed the specials they have for food and drinks. Monday was Mojitos $5 and there was also a burger, fries and beer combo for a great price. Turns out that they make there burgers fresh, including the turkey burger which was good. We sat out on the patio and the service was great and the staff was very friendly. I think I will be coming back for happy hour some time. I think it's from 4-7pm and sometimes they have late night happy hour as well. Cheers! read more

We come here every so often to watch football, have some beers and some grub....unfortunately the past few times have been a real bummer. The food is just not good, and seems to have gone downhill the past few years. Also, I think they need to clean their taps, the beer has the same distinctive "dirty tap" taste. :-( It always smells like cleaning solution in there, not something pleasant while you're trying to eat. I am not sure if the EJ's is under the same ownership as the one on Broadway/Redondo but that one seems to be much better in food quality, cleanliness and beer selection (love all the new IPA's in the fridge). Anyhow, will probably just stick to the Broadway/Redondo location for now. read more

"Teej, we have to go to E.J. Malloy's when you're back in town!" Lori F. shouted to me over the phone. "Uh, why?" I asked. "BURGER MADNESS!" she thundered into the receiver before whispering, "see you there" and promptly hung up. Well how could resist? E J Malloy's is a small chain in Long Beach, and I'd not been to the Atlantic location, so I figured it'd be worth a shot. After finagling some difficult parking, I met Lori and walked in, eager for this aforementioned burger madness. Now you see, on Mondays EJM apparently offers a fantastic deal: Burger, Cajun fries, and a draft domestic beer for $8.95. Holy shit. That sound amazing. And it was--until we learned that the domestic beer involved three choices--Miller, Coors Lite, or Budweiser. Oh. Hell. No. I don't wanna have beer that tastes like broken dreams and lowered expectations. You have plenty of other drafts (several of which are from the good ol' U.S. of A, mind you!), but I have to settler for the unholy trinity of substandard brewing? Oh hell to the no! "But Teej," Lori said. "Burger Madness!!!" While it may have been an entirely appealing name, the deal was whack. So I contented myself with a delicious patty melt that they allowed me to customize (pepper jack instead of swiss, wheat bun instead of rye--what can I say, I can be a picky jerk). And I enjoyed a lovely cider. Like a winner. Or snob. Or both. Whatevs. Despite my lack of burgermadness!, I had a lovely time. Lori even managed to grimace down a Coors Lite with her burgeryfiesta. I'd recommend EJM, but don't get too excited on Monday night's BurgerMadness. Unless you like icky beer. read more

EJ's, you only get three stars until you start staying open later. This little pub is really the only decent option for drinks wihtin walking distance from my house, tucked into sleepy old Bixby Knolls. Always clean and friendly/fast service, The patio is a great place to hang out while people watching/car watching. I don't think I've ever had a bad experience here. And don't underestimate the food, some of the best fish and chips in town. Also, gorgonzola fries! I occasionally see other younger folks here and I wish more of us would enjoy a local pub instead of making the trek to Downtown or 2nd Street. I could use a good hangout place within stumbling distance that doesn't close at like, 10pm. On a Saturday. So lets rally and support EJ's at night, folks! One of my favorite spots here in Long Beach. I come here 2-3 times a month on average. EJ Malloys by far has the best buffalo wings in Long Beach! Meaty wings cooked with a nice crisp skin and a great wing sauce! If you're not into wings, the sandwiches and burgers are very good here as well. I generally go with their club sandwhich, bbq tri tip sandwich, or bacon cheeseburger. The turkey burger is very good as well. Ej Malloys also serves a great fish n chips! Very good batter that is not all greasy. French Fries cooked crisp, not soggy. Plenty of TV's if you're stopping by to watch any of the sporting events. The place does get packed for some of the games, but I guess any good sports bar does. If you're looking for a place to go with a large group they always have 2 tables reserved only for parties of 6 or more. read more

If you can find parking around this part of Atlantic, it would be worth a stop in for a cold beer, some wings and whatever sports are going on. The bar and tables are comfortable, the service is pretty quick - however, I've never been there when it was really crowded. They have enough TVs above the bar, so you can watch pretty much any relevant sport. Smokers will love the fact that you can dine, eat and smoke on their outside patio. The drink and food prices are a little bit high, which weeds out a lot of the LBC riffraff and makes for a comfortable dining and drinking experience. read more
