I love EJ's. I worked from home even before the pandemic, and going to EJ's always made a nice change of pace for me from my home office. The servers are terrific, always friendly whether I'm there with my laptop or my two-year-old nephew. The GM was very supportive of her staff during pandemic, making sure that customers wore masks and truly putting safety first. The afternoon regulars at the bar are a lot of fun, lots of folks working or on work breaks, always willing to chitchat about Long Beach history or whatever sports game is on. And the food is great, too! Whether it's a hamburger, salad, or fish&chips, the food is always done nicely and if there's a problem, they're happy to fix it. I get one of the salads "no onions" all the time and it's just fine. The brownie thing they have for dessert is outrageously good. Check it out! read more

The 3.5 star avg kind of scared me but I'd give this place a 4. The food is delicious and it's not a long wait after you order. Which is why it's 4 ... Servers were nice but took them a while to get to us. We ordered the Gorgonzola fries which was yummy. But you gotta eat them fast or they're get soggy from the delicious sauce. Parking - sucks here there are a couple spots in the back of the restaurant but mostly you will park in the front of the restaurant or take a nice walk. Food - my main choice of food here is gonna be the wings. I usually get 2lbs of wings. 1lb of lemon pepper and the other of super nuclear** they aren't on the menu but there spicy as ****. If you like spicy food I highly recommend that flavoring. Service - up and down never consistent but regardless they will get to you drinks and food usually beat service here. read more

EJMalloy's is a great neighborhood hangout. Good basic "stick to your ribs" foods, good happy hour munchies and a broad range of beers on tap. It's a great place for a quick burger and beer and also offers a full menu of far more interesting fare. The ambience is very UK or Irish pub with dark woods and lots and lots of big screen TVs and the servers are always smiley and friendly and helpful - just downright nice people. Go there with your gang or with your girlfriend. they offer outdoor seating too, and the spot is especially great on every first friday of the month when the artsy are out and about in Bixby. I been to Ejs 3 times recently moving to Bixby Knolls. This third time was horrible. I was with a friend. We ordered out food, sitting for literally 25 minutes before the waiter remembered he forgot to put our order in. Our food arrived about 45 minutes in. By now he had nerve to somewhat have an attitude because I asked for napkins and flatware. I dine out quite often. Very fluent in restaurants. Also wrote a review book on restaurants. I found this spot last February 2016 when I started dating a girl in the area. I've been to the other EJ's on Broadway and when I came to this place, it was just as good as the Broadway spot. This place here is much smaller however. If you come here after 5pm, it's busy until 7pm. When it's busy, parking on Atlantic is going to suck. Especially if you come here during sports event, your not going to be able to watch the game. Now for the food, it's very good. We always get the wings and either a burger or the fish. EJ Malloy's is nothing special but it's not a negative experience. I went in with a group of friends on a Friday night when it was a bit busy. We wanted patio seating because inside was so loud we couldn't hear each other. The staff was no help in getting extra seats for outside. We were all seated seven minutes later, which wasn't too bad. It took longer than expected to get a menu (around 10 minutes) but once a waiter realized we existed, we were served quite quickly. My friends and I just ordered drinks and some chips. We got kettle chips and tortilla chips with cheese dip, guacamole, and salsa. It was all very tasty! The total for two appetizers and four drinks was $45.44. The atmosphere is bustling, lively, and not good for kids. It's a pub that would be great to watch games at with friends. There's street parking and bike parking available. Bottom Line: It's a great place to have a drink and catch up in a very casual way. Not good for serious discussions or first dates at all. read more

I've been coming here for years but today, Saturday 12/23/17 was the last straw. This place wasn't even busy yet the bar tender must've been high or something b/c I had to wave him down to get serviced after sitting at the bar for 9 min. The bar wasn't busy at all. But cleaning glasses and chatting/socializing with someone at end of the bar was more important. One thing I noticed that was weird was that an older gentleman seated next to us put his empty beer glass on the bar. Right before his glass hit the bar the bartender had his next beer already being handed to him, yet I had to wait 9 min to be greeted. At the bar, after getting our first drinks, which took forever, the barkeep never came back to ask us if we wanted another after we were done. So after we sat there for a while after being done we just asked for the check. We didn't get anything else to drink even though I wanted to. The same issues for years is that this place has really slow bar service, which was sad b/c they prolly would've gotten double the money out of me in drinks alone and a fat tip. Time after time it hasn't changed, just the remodel. PROS: - delicious cocktails - food isn't too bad - remodel of place is really nice CONS: - service continues to be slow and poor - drink prices went up - wish they would resolve the bar service issue. read more

My friends and I visit this location since it was the closes place to where we all where... I've lived in Long Beach but never heard of this place so I figure what the heck. Since, we got here after-hours, parking was free. The place had a cool hip look to it. I loved the lights spelling out PUB above the bar area. That was pretty dope. The steampunk lights were a nice touch as well. We grab a feel beers and talked shop. I had the lemon pepper wings and they gave me a side of the nuclear sauce. It was the bomb.com. Very nice, laid back local bar. I will make another visit when I'm in the area. read more

Cross cut French fries with cheese is what I was craving and we found them here. Stopped by for lunch on Saturday. Maybe lunch portions are a little smaller, but they were good. I wanted more. We entered found a place to sit 1 hour later, while nobody said hello, we cleaned our own table, finally waiter noticed us we put in a drink order at 9:50pm revived our drinks at at 10:17 at that point order food for them to say, no food order after 10pm, they asked manager they did let us order, they bring plates bump our arm as apparently they are busy, still 10:29 no food, got our food at 10:43, took forever, thankfully it's yummy, we waited to long. read more

Came here for a quick lunch since I was in the area for work. It was pretty empty when we walked in but there was no host or server to seat us. After standing around awkwardly for a few minutes one of the bartenders finally noticed us and told us to sit anywhere. We sat down, server came over to take our drink orders... you could tell she had an attitude. Later on she pretty threw the straws in front of us when she brought our water. Service here was bad from start to end; she also took my plate away without asking me if I was finished. I wasn't going to eat the few tater tots I had left but what if I was? I ordered the Flaming Guacamole Burger. It came out pretty soggy and flat so it was definitely not a good looking burger. There was nothing "flaming" about it. Actually, there wasn't much flavor to it in general. The beef patty was pretty tasteless. Something tasted a little weird to me, I'm not sure if it was the poblano peppers, or the beef and tater tots being too oily. Anyway, my stomach punished me for eating this burger 5 hours later. I wouldn't come back here again. Everything from service to the food was less than mediocre. Maybe this is more of a bar place but if you are charging $15 for a burger I think you should put a little bit more effort. read more

I'm giving this place two stars for one reason and one reason only. I was there earlier today for lunch, the food is always spot on. Drinks are great, beer is always cold and the service is great. I ordered a brownie to go and it's friggin raw! Legit raw, I get that there's fudge brownie's but this is a whole ' other level. I've worked in the restaurant business before and as a cook how can you give someone a raw brownie? Like, that's 100% totally your fault for sending the food out that way. I can't really blame the waitress because I don't know if she was the one that packaged it or the cook packaged it for her. Service was definitely improved. Still a bit slow but they've always been that way. They are definitely back on the list of places in my rotation. Today I had horrible service! Our server, Tea could have been great, but her customer service skills were lacking. She took my drink away while I was still drinking it ~MY WORD! We asked for the manager and she said, no she is too overwhelmed. Really? Ok. I am a local, come here often, but today was too much and we got here early before the First Friday crowd. Also another server reached across our entire table saying, you don't need this (condiments) do you as she had already rudely whisked it away. They don't let dogs on the patio. The staff claims it's because of health code but we just came from Rasselbock's and they let's dogs on their patio and the let dogs, give them a water bowl and even food for the dogs. All restaurants with outdoor patios let dogs except EJ's. So I don't understand why EJ's won't let dogs on the out door patio? I guess the health codes are different for restaurants just 2 blocks apart or EJ's just don't want dogs on the patio. Really? read more
