Two thumbs way up for El Agave. They are extremely friendly and cool in this place. They opened 15 minutes early so I could get my paws on a 32 oz Margo and seafood enchilada, which was terrific by the way. They treat you like a real amigo. We dropped in for dinner while on a shopping trip to Bellingham, based on past reviews. We enjoyed the Tricolour Enchiladas - quite tasty and a good portion size. Service was quick and friendly. I went in with my wife and ordered for my family of 7, After spending over $80 I got home and they did not even give me all my food. They missed an order. So no big deal, I call them to get it fixed so I can just run down there and get it. They told be that I did not order it and they will not fix my order. After we pulled the hair out of our food it still did not taste that good. So please save your time and money and just go to TacoBell and at least you know what your going to get and they will fix it when they need to! read more

The only bad thing I can say is I discovered this place right before moving away from Bellingham. Truly delicious dinner, oustanding flavor. I had the Seafood Burrito filled with crab and shrimp under the tastiest sauce I've had in a long time. My friend had Camarones al Mojo de Ajo, big shrimp and vegetables with a savory grilled flavor in a garlic sauce. We couldn't believe how big his plate was...huge. Found this place at 9pm the other night after a quick shopping trip, its just off the I-5 so access is quick and easy to find. The staff is super friendly, friendly and make sure you always have a full glass. As for the food it is great and not to spicy for most people, but if you like spice I am sure the will kick it up for you. Would I go again..... most definitely. The menu has lots to choose from and I will have to try more but it will take many times as the portions are a good dinner size with little room to spare. read more

Highly recommend! The best Mexican food I have had in Bellingham. Authentic Mexican food for a reasonable price, let me just say you get what you pay for. If it weren't for the amazing student discount, I would not have been interested. That being said, the food was at best two star worthy. I ordered the two enchilada combo platter with one chicken and one cheese and was given two chicken, not a big deal. The rice and beans were nothing to write home about; edible yes, noteworthy no. The "pico de gallo" was an Americanized little plastic cup of lettuce and cabbage, adding little to the order than wasn't already included. The salsa however was top notch. I might go in solely to snag more of that salsa, otherwise my business will be better off elsewhere. read more

Delicous food and cheap drinks! We were pretty impressed with the drink selection. They have plenty of cocktails to choose from. Their sangria is pretty good. I had the Super Vegetable Burrito. It was stuffed with grilled broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, peppers, and other veggies. Lots of other places use rice and/or beans to fill their vegetarian burritos, but not this place! The refried beans on the side were a bit salty for my taste, but I'm sure plenty of other people like them. My husband had the Pollo a la Crema, his favorite dish. He said it was as good as Mi Mexico's, which means it was good. I used my student ID to get 20% off my meal. WWU, WCC, and BTC students can get 20% discounts (excluding specials and happy hour, of course). On Mondays, seniors can get discounts as well. The price was already reasonable, and a discount on top of that just sweetened the deal so much more. read more

first time here so didnt know what to expect. The staff were friendly and always on top of everything . The food i though was just okay. The salsa was good but had to reorder as there barely was enough for one person, would have reordered a third time, but instead just ate the chips plain. i felt uncomfortable at this place due to one of the people who worked there. i was waiting for my mom and her friend to finish paying and a guy was sweeping and getting ready to clean and close the restaurant. he pulled me aside, and touched my lower back, asking for a kiss. i'm 17 and have never had to deal with an encounter like this at a family restaurant. assuming food was fine, i don't think it overrules the service. any place can have good food, but it's the way the workers treat their customers. not to mention, when i leave to get to the car, he tries to hit on my mom and her best friend in the same way. you have to know the difference between welcoming and harassing. read more

I had this place for takeout and I was comparing it to what else there is for Mexican about BHam and this has by far some of the best beans. The burrito was good, though the chicken was dry. My boyfriend and I love El Agave. We strolled in one night not knowing what to expect and we have been impressed every time since, and we have returned plenty of times. The service is great, not the kind of service you receive everywhere. I am a very picky eater and they are always more than willing to work with me. I don't like beans, so they give me a salad, I don't like mushrooms so they give me onions and peppers. One time they split a dish in half, a wrapped shrimp order, basically just cutting out the rice and onions, and charged me only half of what it was priced at because I wanted to create my own dish. Sometimes it takes them a while to refill your drink, but they always apologize even when it truly isn't necessary and sometimes they even throw in a free dessert. The shrimp and chipotle dish is amazing, same with the fajita enchilada. When you leave one of the guys always thanks you and says "See you tomorrow!" and I always laugh because we come so often it is probable he could see us the next day. This restaurant used to be one of my "go to" places to eat out but not any more. The enchilada sauce is acceptable. Service is excellent. Unfortunately, they have downgraded their food quality by loading the ground beef in the tacos with some kind of "filler" product. Now, the ground beef tacos taste worse than those served at the Taco Bell places. You cannot "cover up" trashy meat products with piles of lettuce. If this franchise owner was operating in South Tucson, Arizona, they would be "run out of town". Will not return to eat here until the quality of the meat is improved by not adding any "filler" products. read more

This place does NOT serve authentic Mexican food! I brought my son while visiting from Seattle based on previous reviews and was very dissapointed. First off, it's not unclean but a bit run-down with too bright florescent lighting and waitstaff looks like the just got out of bed and threw on a t-shirt. They were all wearing different attire. Not very professional. I won't say unprofessional, just too casual (a bit sloppy) for a 15.00 entrée. When we asked for more salsa and Pico de Gallo, she did bring more but left the empty bowls. Water was in brown plastic "glasses". While we were eating, one of the waitresses started mopping the floor near us. So, if your looking for "atmosphere", this is not the place to go. I ordered the sopa de tortilla and was really dissapointed. The broth was not very flavorful and the chicken was not shredded but little cut-price cubes of rubbery chicken and soggy tortilla "strips". My son's burrito was ground, not shredded, beef. He said it tasted good, but it seemed a bit soggy looking to me. Not sure if they had a dessert as we weren't asked if we would like to see a menu. I doubt they had one. I just can't understand how this place got so many good reviews - maybe they thought that it was a really good fast food place?
