When I came to visit and told my sister I wanted some cuban dishes, she knew the exact place to go. Oh man was she right. Everything from the service to dinner and space was exceptional. So this week, I've gone crazy checking into almost every place that I've been. I've been pent up because of vivid and wanted to splurge before we get kicked down again! I'm glad because this place is a hidden gem, and my ONLY complaint was the fries. Frozen fries are old school, and for the prices, they charge here, fresh should be the order of business here. Waking into this place, you'd immediately think you made a mistake, and I almost walked out. Because of recommendations, I stayed. Momma had trusha, which is fried trout that I found juicy and extremely tasty, flaky, cooked well, and the broccoli was perfectly cooked. The dish also came with smashed plantains, which I stole one from momma and white rice. I had entraria, which is a skirt steak served with salad, white rice, and fries. The steak was cooked perfectly, juicy, and dripping off the meat deliciousness. The mixture was perfect and very fresh, and the rice was just rice. The fries were horrible. For an appetizer, we had "ceviche de chicharron," which is thinly sliced pork belly served with a mix of red onions, sweet peppers, cilantro, and lime served with an Arpita (corn pancake) this appetizer was a crunchy batch of awesomeness that goes back just for this. We were in a mood for a Latin American food when we found this restaurant was highly recommended by the fellow yelpers. They have a n outdoor seating, but it was raining so we had to settle for indoor. The place is clean and because of the COVID not all tables were available - they are strictly following the distancing guidelines. The home made lemonade was delicious. We shared an appetizer crispy and delicious Ceviche de Chicharrones, which is deep fried pieces of pork belly served with ceviche. I had the grilled trout served with white rice and steamed broccoli and fried bananas. Everything was so good. And just when we were about to pay and leave this young and very talented violinist showed up for life entertainment. She was amazing. The Orphans 4 lunched here today on the recommendation of Orphan G and we were glad we did! We started with an Empinada each which was really very tasty. We all went with the Lunch Special which was A grilled Chicken with a Mushroom Sauce and white rice with a salad all plated and for the special a very generous bowl of chicken soup was included and that was a meal in it self. Update- Family is back in town and this time we ordered on line for dinner (6:00PM), mondongo, chicken and pandebono . When we got there there's no more pandebono. The owner gave us credit. It seems the pandebonos are gone early during the day. So the next day we came back early in the morning like 9:30AM and they still have pandebonos. I don't think they bake new ones later during the day. Pollo con salsa de cilantro was so good that my husband , hard to please, enjoyed it a lot. Old review- I am so glad to found this place after few tries on other Colombian restaurants located in the shopping centers. El Balcon is the real deal. They are located next to Wells Fargo in Sandalfoot Boulevard. This is not a place where you bring a date to impress. You come here to have some authentic Colombian food which they deliver. Manager and staff are very friendly and accommodating. The only complaint I have is pandebono is not that fresh when I was there. So not sure if it was baked so early in the morning and by the afternoon, it is not that soft anymore. Anyway, my favorite Mondongo was excellent and OMG , the serving is humongous. We ordered Lechon Asado, Arroz con Pollo and a Cheese Arepa. Food was served hot and very flavorful. Reason for 4 instead of 5 is the Arepa was not crispy but kind of soggy and cheese was not melted. Priced a little higher on our bill than on menu too. Place could use some sprucing up on inside and out. Other than that, we will come back to try more of the menu. read more

I saw the Alfajores behind the glass and nearly peed my pants in excitement. These amazing cookies remind me of my trip to Argentina. They are SO good. I ordered two for each of us and a Tinto (columbian coffee) for us to split because it was already late at night. The service was good too. The only downside of the entire meal was that the fries were a bit undercooked. We also got a chicken dish that had a wonderful mushroom sauce. We loved it! Ordered from the glades rd location today went to pick up my order they had no order. After several minutes going back and forth they had my order but it was wrong. Finally got my food went back to work and everything was ice cold and wrong! Called spoke to the manager who was rude, nasty and had zero customer service skills. My wife and I would always go to the boca location and we decided to try the one in Deerfield since we were closer . We got the grilled chicken with mushrooms, it has been our favorite dish , we decided to eat at home this time so we ordered take out . The chicken tasted Burnt and yes I know it's a "grilled chicken" but it's not supposed to taste burnt . The food was served hot and we were really happy ,although not enough mushrooms my wife got about 3 and little mushroom pieces I got a decent amount , it's just the chicken that irritated us the sauce also tasted burnt due to the chicken being burnt . The attention is not the same anymore. They have hired a lot of new people and the quality of service has diminished. The waitresses don't acknowledge you when you walk in. They get the orders wrong and lack in adequate customer service. It's unfortunate because the food is delicious but both food AND service need to be top notch in order for a restaurant to succeed. South Florida is home to many great Latin American restaurants and this is definitely one of them. I've been coming here for a few months now and can't say I've had any bad experiences. Nice and casual atmosphere which is perfect when you want to eat somewhere good without making it a spectacle.The service can range from super fast to slightly slow depending on how busy it is, but the waitresses are nice and friendly. Many of the waitresses don't speak english-which isn't a rarity in authentic Latin American restaurants- but they usually will just switch to another waiter if they can see you don't understand spanish. I've ordered an array of items off the menu. Their meats which include pork, chicken, steak and beef are loaded with Latin flavor. They have good prices and their plates are huge and most of their dishes come with a combination of fries, salad, rice and beans. I really love the steaks here, they are packed with flavor and paired along with rice and beans (sometimes fries) which really hits the spot for me. The only thing I wouldn't recommend here are their desserts or pre made pastries. I've had a few of the desserts/pastries here and they aren't super fresh. It seems like they keep them for a couple days before they throw them out. If you are getting take out, maybe heat them up in the microwave before eating them. Last time I ordered here my fiancé and I shared a Cuban sandwich and the steak sandwich (known here as the Pan con Bistec Sandwhich) for $8.99 each. They are soo good! The cuban sandwich has just the right amount of pork, ham and cheese. The bread is fresh and grilled in a press so that its nice and crispy on the outside and the inside of the sandwich is hot with the perfect amount of melty cheese. The steak sandwich has a slab of juicy steak with grilled onions, peppers that were smothered in a balsamic glaze that gets soaked into the bread and to finish it is topped with small crunchy potatoes chips. They each came with a side of crunchy fries. Sometimes fries at restaurants like these tend to be soggy but not here! They are perfectly seasoned with salt and come piping hot right from the frier.
