Pambazo
Leslie V.

If I could give this place 100 stars, I absolutely would! This family-owned spot truly takes pride in authenticity and bold, unforgettable flavor. Everything is made in-house; no canned sauces on the chilaquiles here. The best way I can describe it is like going to your tía's house and being served real, home-cooked Mexican food made with love. As someone with roots in Mexico City, it's not easy to find dishes from CDMX that taste the way they're supposed to; but they absolutely nail it here. My go-to orders are the pambazo and the quesadilla chilanga de papas con chorizo. The chilaquiles are also to die for. The service is always amazing, they're attentive, welcoming, and genuinely helpful every time. The ambiance is nice and cozy, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great meal. And don't skip the drinks, the agua de mango and iced lattes are just as amazing.

Excellent authentic food. This is the place to go to if you enjoy mole. We ordered their three family shareable plates -- pork mole (which came with a red sauce), the chicken mole (which was a green sauce), and the braised pork ribs with cactus cooked in a green sauce. I usually love the mole poblano (red sauce) but my favorite here was the chicken with green mole -- absolutely delicious. The pork mole was good too but a little sweeter than I typically like it. The pork ribs were a fan favorite at our table -- everyone loved their tangy sauce. The tacos were excellent as well. Their tortillas are delicious. Overall great food, and extremely friendly service. The restaurant itself is small so call ahead if you have a large party. A definite return visit for us!

Delicious meal in a neighborhood spot located on mission street. There was a guitar player who came for about 15 minutes as well which added to the ambiance. Ordered the cheese enchiladas and they were simple but yummy. We also tried the Puerco in mole verde.

Came by a Saturday night (~7PM) with a group of friends (5). One of my friends arrived earlier and was able go grab a table immediately, but even so, once the rest arrived there were still tables available and no line. I ordered the tacos dorados and they were very tasty. The chicken inside the tacos were a bit bland, but the combination with the beans and sauce easily fixed it. What I do have to say is that portions are on the smaller side, so keep an eye on that. Overall, this is a nice spot, the staff were friendly and have a nice cocktail selection. Would be down to visit again and try other things in their menu.

Food was delicious and service was great . This is the second time we've gone there while visiting San Francisco, if your looking for good Mexican food this is the place.

Huevos Divorciados (PF) and the cheese enchiladas with Mole I wish that they melted that cheese on the enchiladas.

It was my first time at El Buen Comer and I was semi impressed. I was there on a Sunday when they opened up at 10am. The food was made to order traditional Yucatán style food serving black beans only in their dishes no love for the pinto beans here. I had the huevos divorciados and my gf had the cheese enchiladas with the mole. Overall I like the plates however, they don't have much of a breakfast selection they had like 4 plates to choose from. The tortillas were good though. What I did not like was the coffee, when the coffee came it had sugar already in it. I'm like whoa whoa buddy I like to manage my own sugar in my coffee I had to water that coffee cup down. The service was ok it wasn't great the lady server that morning was sweet the other guy looked like he didn't want to be there and was counting the minutes the other server showed up which he did and HE was cool I kinda wish I came a little later. The ambiance is also cool it's not in the hustle and bustle part of the mission it's on the border of mission and Bernal heights so there is some chance of getting parking. The kitchen looked clean and when we left it was getting busy. I would go back again to try the other 3 breakfast dishes they have but this time i will ask not to put hella sugar in my coffee.

Oh wonderful cozy little Mexican spot, how i adore you. Came here completely on a whim. Originally, we trekked down this way to get Ramen but when we walked by this place, there was just something very alluring about it. Hmm.. maybe the tequila bar.. Fantastic cocktails, great fish tacos, wonderful pozole, delicious guacamole, and excellent service! All wrapped up in this adorable, little Mexican spot! What's not to love?! If you're thinking about coming in with a party bigger than two, I would make a reservation because this place fills up fast. We got lucky because we came in right when they opened. Within the hour of being there, the entire place was almost completely full. Thanks for a great experience !

An oasis off 30th and Mission St. to say this is excellent Mexican food at this establishment is and understatement . I ordered a guava aqua Fresca and it was delectable . We settled on a green sauce pozole which had a cascade of flavor which something we could easily share in one setting and an accompanied with them we ordered taco was incredible . And the chorizo flavor was amazing . I will return. The exterior is understated but the interior is vibrant and the table service was excellent. A new staple of food for me to return to.

Mole con Pollo

Cam here on a Saturday evening with friends for dinner and was able to be seated right away even with our party of 6. I got the Mole con Pollo, and it was good! Definitely on the sweeter side, great flavor and tender chicken. The servers were very kind and good at getting food out quickly. Would come back again to try their mole verde as well!

Enchiladas de Mole

Their Chicken Enchiladas de Mole were absolutely incredible; my partner said that they were the best enchiladas he's ever had, and he is usually not the biggest fan of mole sauce. I agree; the chicken and cheese enchiladas simmered in the mole sauce really hit the spot and satisfied my appetite. I cannot wait to be back for more! The restaurant itself was large and spacious, with great service and beautiful decor. I look forward to returning.

I can see why this restaurant has been getting such high marks. It would have been a 5-stars from me- we ate here on a Wednesday night around 5:30pm. We were seated super fast, and the servers were quick to tend to our water, welcome us, and were ready to take our order whenever we were. Since we were the only ones in there, it was expected but that doesn't always mean you get attentive service, so we checked that box. The food was mixed. My wife and I both ordered their mole dishes, one green and one red. The green mole was delicious. The sauce was creamy, tasty, delivered good amount of freshness, salt and acidity and was really nice to eat along with the rice and beans. The rice and beans were typical. The pork in my mole that was tender was amazing but half the pork was as hard and dry as a rock. It kind of made me wonder if the pork was fresh. The cut was likely chunked pork butt, so it could have been that it was undercooked and didn't have enough time to tenderize yet? Not sure. Anyways, the red mole, this is supposed to be their pride and joy! Well, it was kind of weird. It didn't have the earthy, nutty and warm flavors I was expected. It's difficult to place what flavors I did have since nothing particularly stood out other than the fact that I felt it was more fruity than I'd expect. I liked it, the chicken was really good, tender, well cooked, but the mole was just okay. Not a traditional red mole at all and it didn't blow me away by any means. I did get to try the chile Relleno as well since it was another order at our table, it was super tasty. Don't have much else to say other than I enjoyed the flavor - it's not something I'd order since it doesn't have a protein. Overall, I enjoyed this meal and it's definitely some of the better Mexican I've had (in general, not just in SF) but it's not something I'd drop everything for. I'd wager some of the other dishes are likely very good judging from what I tasted, but their mole dishes are their flagship ones from what I understand and rating them purely on those, I'd give a 4/5.

Situated in the Mission District of SF, El Buen Comer offers delicious and authentic Mexican food. We went on a weekend night and did not have to wait to get seated. The ambiance of the whole place is so lively! We got the mole verde con pollo, rice and tortilla. Pretty sure the tortilla are house-made and they taste very good. The chicken is super juicy and tender and the mole is delicious.

It was $15 for competitors to participate and $5 for attendees to sample all of the chilis and cast a People's Choice vote. My mouth was on fire from one of the participants who used six ghost peppers in his concoction. And there were certainly some unique ingredients in some of the recipes, including jerk chicken and secret alien sauce. There were only seven competitors, but the helpings were large cups, so we were stuffed from all the chili goodness by late afternoon. Live country music played in the background, and both the indoor space and outdoor patio were lovely and created an inviting setting. There were giant TV screens inside too, playing the fifa world cup while we were there. We had a couple beers and the ten forward cocktail off the menu, which had a light and fruity flavor I enjoyed. My bf also tried the Nixta corn whiskey, which was definitely unique. The bartender and staff here were friendly, and there was even an adorable cat roaming around on site. Came here with my partner and the waitress only wanted to approach me, and was not nice to my partner at all. When he was mid sentence ordering his drink, she cut him off and demanded to see his ID. ( mind you...it is also his bday...) A while later, we decided to get another round and he raised his hand hoping to get her attention. I completely understand that being a server is hectic and very stressful, but a little acknowledgment when you see your table asking for you should be bare minimum. She completely ignored him multiple times. When she finally came to our table and bluntly said to him " I see you okay. I'm doing other things but I see you. " she only wanted to speak with me when ordering also....which I found kind of weird. She is also not the nicest to the table next to us also, so at least it's not targeted. But aside from that, drinks and small bites are pretty standard for a cocktail bar. Nothing too special, but a good place to try with friends. The service mostly ruined it for us that night.

The shishito peppers ended up being extremely spicy as well, those are usually just a few spicy and not the majority. The roasted lemon and salt was a wonderful combo but just too spicy to eat. However, the server very kindly removed it from our bill without us asking. We order the crostini because we were still hungry and that was an absolute hit. Delicious med-soft crostini with luscious berries and sweet honey. I didn't care my hands got sticky as it was soooo good! Located in the legendary Mission District of San Francisco, this wine bar is a great spot to catch up with friends and enjoy small bites and yummy crafted cocktails. Even though the place was pretty packed and can be kind of noisy, I still felt very calm amongst all the healthy plants and loved the sophisticated 70s inspired glassware. Another great feature of this place is that you can buy most of the plants because they have some for sale so after a couple of cocktails, I was ready to redecorate my whole house with all the plants.
