My coworker and I were starving and looking for some good food for a late lunch. We walked down the street from her program and came across this restaurant. It was almost empty, so we were seated right away. I noticed they had a full bar, which was a nice surprise. Since I was a little skeptical about the food, I decided to play it safe and ordered a burrito. The moment I took that first bite, I got a taste of the flavor and was in heaven! The meat was well-seasoned, and the burrito was a really nice size. Everything came together perfectly. Our waiter also told us about some of the events they host that bring in large crowds. I enjoyed a nice lunch with friends here recently. It's a cute spot with vibrant decor and they play excellent music. We grabbed a booth by the window which was bright and offered a view of the street but there are also interior tables and a bar area if you prefer a darker vibe. I sampled lots of items. I didn't care for the nopales at all and the chips and salsa were rustic but tasty. The mole was ok but I would recommend the Lupe Special because it was filling with a unique flavor. The food was reasonably priced and the portion sizes were good. Service was a bit slow and it took a very long time to get the check despite there only being 3 or 4 tables of patrons while we were there. I eventually had to seek someone out and ask for it. I believe there were only 2 or 3 people working though. I would stop in again if I was in the area but definitely not if I was in a hurry. read more

If you're in SOMA and looking for great Mexican food - this is it! This is pretty much an offshoot of San Jaslisco's in the mission. Similar food (virtually same menu) and vibe, but this location is definitely more of a kick-back with friends and enjoy some brews while watching the game. Service is awesome and on point. If you're into chicken pozole, Thursday is the day to stop by. Flautas are always amazing and I love that they have a veggie option (potato) and a meat option (chicken). The guacamole is always hitting and you really can't go wrong with any dish on the menu. They also serve breakfast all day, which is always a plus! Parking isn't too bad depending on the time of day (happy hours and after are spot on for clutching a good spot). The BART is about a 10-minute walk and there's always the Muni bus. I had been looking for a new Mexican place that has the traditional "home cooking" vibe after the imcredible Lisa's in Daly City permanently closed down. Lisa's really did everything right and, especially, had excellent mole, not easy to find in the Bay Area. So I'm charging my EV at the EVgo hub on Harrison at 6th and it was gonna take more than a half hour so I decided to check Yelp for what restaurants were around -- and found the amazing Yossies nearby, walking distance, with all the wonderful reviews. And I'll say right off the bat: it was a great choice, not disappointed in the least! A very warm, colorful, homey atmosphere, different table options to choose from (if they're not busy), everyone who works there is SO nice and goes out of their way to make sure your experience is perfect. And then, of course, the food! So, yep, they got mole -- and it is excellent!! I would actually say it's even better than Lisa's, and that's saying a lot. They aren't afraid to bring out the bold flavors, that wonderful Mexican chocolate -- it's one of the best moles I've had in a very, very long time. I had the Chicken Mole Enchiladas. You can also get Pollo En Mole as a basic dish, which comes with tortillas. Beans & rice were slightly elevated as compared to other Mexican restaurants as were the chips and salsa. They also serve a great Jamaica (hibiscus) drink. And the prices are reasonable. I am SO happy I found Flossies, my new favorite sit-down, homestyle Mexican place -- and, if you're wondering if you should make the trip all the way down (or up or over) to Harrison & 7th in SOMA just for Mexican food, I would say it is most definitely worth it! read more

This spot is fairly new to the area and worth trying. The restaurant has a vibrant, authentic Mexican vibe, with colorful decor and a welcoming atmosphere. There's a nice variety of seating options, including a bar area, tables, and booths. Chips and salsa are served right after being seated, tasting fresh and homemade--an excellent start. The michelada is well-balanced and refreshing. The Mexican nachos supreme with beef and the burrito grande with chicken come in very generous portions--definitely on the heavier side. I've been looking for a place in SF that has decent Mexican food. We went here twice and ordered the same thing before I left a review. We came at lunch time, price was $2-3 cheaper for lunch vs dinner price (same portion size) I got sopes, one chicken, one carne asada, the chicken was very juicy and flavorful, the asada was a tad dry. The second visit I got all chicken, no complains at the juiciness of the meat. It did have chopped black olives in it this time which I didn't expect, I picked it off. Overall it was very yummy and felt like some authentic Mexican food and not some knock off/tex mex style that comes pricy and isn't the real thing. We also got the 2 soft tacos, chicken as well. Flavor and portion was all there. During lunch time it was slow but staff was sweet and attentive, and the chips and salsa were good, the salsa actually had a nice spicy flavor kick to it but not too hot. Overall we liked this Mexican restaurant, we judged it being part bar but honestly this has been the best Mexican restaurant when looking for authentic flavor. I'd recommend this place. This joint never fails me! It's conveniently located near my workplace and always gets the job done whenever I got craving for home cooked Mexican fare! It's becoming my old haunt as I go there frequently. They got a great chicken soup that I always get whenever I'm under the weather and I also asked them to make me a medicine ball tea to go with the soup. Needless to say, Yossie's chicken soup and medicine ball tea always shorten my cold! Oh, did I mention that you get complimentary chips and salsa!? It's all made in the house too! The ambulance in there is nice and there is a jukebox that you can put money in to play your favorite songs. You can choose either to sit at a Bar area and have nice chit chat with the bartender or you can sit at the booth area to people watch. The decors are inspired by elements of Mexican culture such as wrestling masks, flags, and so on! I do recommend bring cash as it's slightly cheaper than credit cards! They also have a FULLY stocked bar so you could curate alcoholic drinks of your dreams! There are few IPAs on tabs too as well as the typical beers like modelo, Heineken, and so on! Soda wise they got anything from canned coke to Mexican coke, as well as hot tea! Decided to try this place since the ratings were really good. Went on a monday for dinner, it was pretty empty, and what you would expect for a sports bar. Was greeted nicely, and chose a booth. The menu was immense! I chose a combo - stuffed pepper and chicken enchilada with rice and refried beans. The complimentary chips and salsa were yummy, and my dinner was delicious! You wouldn't think you'd find a serious cantina at the treacherously trafficked corner of 7th and Harrison in SoMa, but sure enough, here it is doling out tasty family-style Mexican fare much like their established Mission operation, Sanjalisco (review: https://yelp.to/JFchALSkyU). Before the pandemic, the space was Rumors where I recalled having a greasy burger in a loud sports bar. Then it was closed for at least a couple of years when Jamie W texted me that it had reopened with quite a robust menu of Mexican dishes. What caught my eye was the presence of menudo. Now I didn't read the fine print that they followed the usual practice of offering it only on weekends. Well, I needed to try this spot pronto. When I arrived after 5PM, I was the only one in the dining area, though the bar was fairly well populated. Of course I asked Alfonso, the chef, about the possibility of menudo, and of course knew it was a pipe dream. Instead I ordered the $14.95 Pozole Verde de Pollo (Chicken Green Soup) since that was listed as Thursday's caldo special. Alfonso let me know he actually switched out Friday's soacial and had available the same price Pozole Rojo de Puerco (Pork Red Soup). I wasn't disappointed. I had been going to San Jalisco on South Van Ness for years. I got sick twice after eating there and stopped going. My friend has been going to Yossie's for a while now. It's owned by the same family. I said I would give it a try. I was greeted with a frown for some unknown reason. The waitress came over to take our orders. No hello, just down to business. I detected an iciness. I ordered chicken tostadas. My friend ordered a mole dish. We asked for extra salsa. The waitress brought a tiny bowl. My friend's order came with enchilada sauce instead of mole sauce. Mistakes happen. I said that he should have them correct it. He said he didn't want to deal with the waitress. I told him that I thought maybe it was my imagination that she was a cold, almost angry person. My feelings were validated. I had ordered an ice tea (which didn't even have lemon in it) which was plopped down on the table when we were done eating. I said that I'm not going to pay for that. They did take it off the bill. My meal was kind of dry, no kind of sauce, pretty bare. Salt was the prevailing seasoning. At San Jalisco, they always put a dollop of guacamole on my items. Not here. We were never thanked. I come from very modest means growing up, one of 7 kids. I treat people with respect. I'm polite and friendly as is my friend. I don't plan to go back. read more

Was craving Mexican food while shopping around in the area and stumbled on this hole in the wall spot! We ordered takeout and the staff were so kind and helpful. They even included chips with both our orders. The chips were a great appetizer to the burritos. The salsa is pretty smokey so if that's your thing you'll be in heaven. I enjoyed the breakfast burrito with bacon. It also had rice, beans, potatoes, guac, cheese, and it was GOOD so yummy. And massive!!! Both burritos were huge. We were greeted by a very nice gentleman as soon as we entered. The bar is awesome. Our booth was comfy. Now, the food - DELICIOUS!!!! We had a beef tacos combination, green chile enchiladas plate, goat seco combination plate (birria), and posole rojo, not to mention the warm tortilla chips and yummy salsa. Note: I didn't try the food, only drank beer. I was invited here by an acquaintance to watch a 49ers game. I didn't even know this place existed honestly but I'm glad I went.
