I wanted to LOVE this place but to my dismay was highly disappointed. It's the season to be busy and no time to cook. I purchased 3 entree orders and two orders of starters--alcapurrias (dique 2 for $7) the alcapurrias were the size of hotdogs and very oily, and empanadas which were small and triangular in size. (Like half the size of an actual REAL empanada size) but for the price of two ACTUAL REAL empanada sizes. They ruined my 2 out of my 3 Mofongo orders, I asked for chicharrones de pollo (chicken chunks) for my kids with the Mofongo and got a roast chicken thigh, the portions are great for kids! Not for adults! I was very surprised to see how small the portion was. I called them when I arrived home with my order and the owner (Adelvi) said she would refund me. It was a Friday and so they said it would take 24 hours. I called back on Tuesday and nothing. No call back no refund. I'm truly disappointed, the Mofongo was ok but my kids didn't like the chicken. For $25?! The Mofongo should be a decent portion and was not. It's really sad that my Puerto Rican people can't even give a decent size plate because I really would have loved to buy more food here but unfortunately they need to reevaluate their customer service and the size of their portions. My husband jokingly said it was a "kids menu Mofongo." so I advise you to place two orders if you want to get satisfied with your dinner. So not only are they very expensive for Spanish food but the portions are very small. Prepare to spend over $$$$$$ and stay hungry! read more

This spot has been amazing since I first stepped foot inside last year. Food, staff, and owners are all amazing. I had my sons communion there today and they catered to my every need. They decorated and cleaned up after the party was over. Food was scrumptious, drinks were delicious and staff was accommodating. I definitely would host another event at El Cantito and I recommend not only you host an event there but eat dinner on a random night as well. Good food, seems a bit expensive..almost $50 for empanada sampler. Mofongo con pernil and arroz guandules. It did feed two people though. Maybe I'm just a bit too cheap.. Came here during a friday in the afternoon the place was nicely decorated, service was impeccable and were very attentive. I found the food great, the chicharrón de cerdo was salty and the passion fruit lemonade was incredibly sweet. Besides those faults everything else was impeccable. read more

Puerto Rican food in Yonkers is hard to find, so don't bypass this place up the block from the Will Library. My friend said, "it was a taste of yesterday" that brought her back to her grandmother's cooking. We ate the monfogo with pernil which was fabulous. The pernil was perfectly cooked and seasoned --fall off the bone meat. The grilled chicken was flavorful, tender, and juicy. The beans for the white rice were spot on. We took out the meal which stood up well under packaging. When we got home and tasted the food I said this was the most satisfying, delicious food I'd had in a while, my friend agreed. I've been wanting to try this restaurant soon as I heard that they've opened up. I drove from Brooklyn and it was completely worth the trip. From the phenomenal customer service to the flavor that came from my plate to the amazing drinks I fell in love with this gem of a restaurant. The vibe made me feel like I was right in Puerto Rico. I absolutely LOVED EVERYTHING about this restaurant. First time visiting. We were greeted very friendly as soon as we walked in. We had bacalaitos, alcapurrias and ceviche for appetizers. Beautiful presentation & Very tasty. Drinks were great. Main course of masa de cerdo & mofongo were mouth watering. Chuletas cooked to perfection with tostones we're just as tasty. What a surprise to finally have a Puerto Rican spot in Westchester. I'm so tired of all the Dominican spots I need my Puerto Rican fix. Puerto Rican flavors are very distinct and different from Dominican food, and I wish people wouldn't conflate the two. However, the place was delicious, the food was well seasoned, the prices were moderate to slightly high, and the portions were average to slightly small I would've preferred larger empanadas than the ones they offer. We tried the chuleta Khan Khan with maduros, it's was overtly cooked and extremely dry . The maduros weren't ripe enough. The other plate was trifongo which wasn't sweet at all and chicarrón de pollo was extremely crunchy dry and hard . Truly disappointed . Then to top it off the flan de coco was Mostly cream cheese , no coconut taste at all . Then the tip was 20 percent included in the bill automatically. Bad , Terrible . PROs: Delicious mofongo, pork chunks. Good customer service, good location, fast service. CONs: Portions are too small and prices are too expensive. Please either enlarge portions or adjust prices to be fair. Unfortunately, the red beans need some work. They were too watery, with big pieces of onions and peppers floating in broth. Read your bill! They added a 20% surcharge as a tip. If they are going to add the tip, they should announce it and not just add it to the bill. When they give you a credit card bill, there's a place for another tip! Adding 20% for a party of 3 is not the norm and worst of all, it was burred on the check. It gets a one star because I have no choice. I'm baffled at these "reviewers" who say the food is amazing. Either you're not Puerto Rican and don't know what real Puerto Rican food tastes like or are the owners writing these con posts. Not only the food is bland with no authentic Puerto Rican taste, oily, we found a dead bug on my son's water and a wax paper inside the at least two days old rice bowl. My son loves white and he didn't even eat it. We didn't finished anything. The sister owner wasn't that apologetic with what we found in our meal. The pros: Glad to have a Puerto Rican restaurant in the hood with friendly staff and good telephone manners. (Lord knows the other place is not nice) The mojito was delicious The tostones - awesome with a great garlic sauce like I never had before. chicken/beef & cheese empanadas were fresh, crispy with good flavor. Now for the cons: *Portion sizes too small! rice came in small wonton soup container .... that is tiny for a hungry man! *The chicken stew for dinner also came in a small wonton container size. What!!! Taste: *sweet plantains were ok... Ps your competition wont serve them unless the plátanos are sweet. * the flan is way too sweet and texture sort of like mousse.
