First time in this establishment, small cute looking place. Music playing, good vibe. That's where the good ends. Sat down ordered drinks which were ok, no complaints there. Ordered a few appetizers, when they came out, everything was extremely oily. I get that it's fried food, but it literally tasted like it just sat in oil. Both chicken and beef empanadas were tiny and oily, not great. The alcapurrias were absolutely fried to death and oily as can possibly be, really not good. On to the entrées. Our table ordered a Pollo for 2 which was a whole rotisserie chicken, which came with a avacado salad and tostones. The chicken was actually not bad. The tostones were extremely bland and the avacado salad was tiny, like half an avacado at best. Don't forget, this is a "meal for 2". The pernil "meal for 2" was absolutely tiny. In most Latin restaurants, the dish of pernil for one is probably twice the size of this "pernil for 2". The Maduros were not sweet, they were basically unmashed bland tostones. The rice for 2 again, was less than what a dish for 1 is in most Latin restaurants. Absolutely tiny dishes for the prices they charge. Meals are actually very overpriced for what you get. Automatic 20% gratuity added, don't mind because the waiter was nice and had nothing to do with the lackluster food. Don't waste your time or money. I hate to say it, but if you bought frozen "goya" meals in the supermarket and heated them up, they would honestly be better than this meal was. The one star is for the server who was good, because if it was for just the food, it would be zero stars. Don't say I didn't warn you, much better Latin choices to pick from. read more

Extremely hot inside! Claim ac just broke today but now I see a review from a month ago that the ac has been broken... Yet they have no fans and keep the doors closed when it is 90+ degrees outside. We ordered pollo guisado but it was more like a chicken soup. We also ordered chicharon de pollo which claimed to be chicken chunks but we received an order of extra crispy chicken wings? This place needs to get it together! The yuca mofongo is a must! The shrimp can use a little more seasoning. Tasted the pernil asado and it was really good too.the drinks were tasty and the service was good. If you ever find yourself Driving on Central Avenue in Yonkers and want to enjoy some Seriously Delicious PuertoRican Mofongo/Trifongo then this is the Place! The food was Seriously out of this World Delicious and Tasty! I give it a Four out of Five Stars and only because like with any other food establishment if you look long and hard enough, you will be sure to always find something that will disappoint and in our case it was in the final bill! The food can be a bit pricey, but, again, I personally do not mind paying a little more for Quality Food! The Gratuity/Tip is Automatically Added regardless of how many are in your party and I have always believed that Tipping is and should always be based on Service, Food Quality, and Ambiance and Always Discretionary! To automatically charge a 20% Gratuity/Tip is not a very good practice if you want to maintain your customer base! Outside of that one flaw, everything else was Excellent! read more

It was ok, I wasn't crazy about it. It was a last-minute decision on a Friday night and some of the food was good and some of it not so good. We ordered asao pao which is chicken soup and we ordered the mafungo with shrimp, empanadas and the fried chicken so let me tell you about each of these. So the rice and beans that came as a side was the best thing. The beans were fantastic. The chicken soup had a decent taste but there was so many bones in it and you had to be careful how you eat it because there was a bone in every bite. The mafungo was dry but it did come with a lot of shrimp and I wasn't crazy about the sauce or the broth that it came in I can't even describe the flavor of it. Empanadas were pretty good and the fried chicken was overcooked and dry and really what it is, is pieces of chicken that's just fried, there's no batter. I don't think I'd try this place again. Pricy and skimpy portions. Not a fan. I get it the place is in a kinda off the beaten path part of Yonkers but still...I had the bistec encebollada. You'd think they'd include an onion (even for looks) but nope. Also bay leaves abound in the 4 pieces of dried beef I was served. So sad. read more

Just tried the food yesterday and it's wonderful! Traditional Puerto Rican style food, very tasty and plenty enough for leftovers. Looking forward to be able to sit in the restaurant (after social distancing measures are no longer in effect) to enjoy the atmosphere and have a drink or two. read more

I never knew this place existed till a friend of mine told me and ever since then my partner and I have been ordering from El Cantito Cafe frequently ! My family and I noticed this place while visiting the retro gaming store next door. We heard the music playing outside and walked by to check it out. The servers and host were very friendly and accommodating. They even made sure to arrange the outdoor tables and clean them off for us. The weather was sunny and breezy so it felt like a day in Puerto Rico. We ordered 3 Sunday lunch specials, yuca fries, 3 lemonades and jibarritos sliders. Everything was delicious. You could see they used homemade sofrito and fresh ingredients with their lettuce and tomato. The jibarritos were freshly made, and generous size, tostones still hot and crunchy, meat was well marinated. The steak with onions was flavorful, and soft and shredded so easily. Next time I will order with more onions on the side. Rice was perfectly cooked and beans were delicious. The stew chicken was flavorful, fall of the bone. The pernil had a devious roasted garlic flavor, I just wished the threw a little piece of crunchy pork skin. The yuca fries were tasty and sauce served as well, I would have also asked if they had a garlic mojo the next time. The portions seemed small because it the large plates they were served on but let that not fool you. We left with full happy bellies. The lemonades were so refreshing, it was the kids favorite. It was beautiful Sunday afternoon, with wonderful servers, food and breeze. I will be sure to come back and try some other items . I would love to support them again! 1 star for the beautiful decor. First time coming wanted to support PR bro/sis owners in our area. Arrived, male owner was outside, wasn't trying to greet us until we greeted him. Once we walked in, it was a sauna. No AC. We decided to sit near the bar because there was a fan. Bartender was the female owner. She was more attentive to the regular guests. We had to get her attn several times to order. We ordered a round of drinks. The drinks were good. Decided to order alcapurrias. What a tease. It was the usual size of one cut into 4 tiny sizes. We were still hungry, ended up ordering steak with onions. Horrible! Hard, pale, no taste whatsoever and came with wedge style tostones which I didn't like because they were so fat. The bartender disappeared, didn't say anything at all to us. We were waiting around for the bill. Finally the new bartender showed up. We closed the bill and ran out of there with not a second thought of returning. The only friendly person was the waiter. I was expecting authentic Puerto Rican Spanish food but didn't get that. Complete disappointment. I'm guessing the family and their close friends put up these great reviews because there is no other way. Wishing them the best in their business. read more
