I have been going here my whole life and I have never had a bad experience at this El Caporal location. I love how quick the service is at all times and how the servers are extremely kind at all times. The environment is also so colorful and the paintings are beautiful. But the food is the absolute best part about this place obviously. I love the colorful plates and the neatly presented delish meals that they serve so incredibly quickly. They have a bar with beers on tap and Mexican music playing the background that was nice. We got raspberry and mango margaritas and they very tasty and a good size for the price. I got the fajitas Hawaiian and added chorizo and my husband got the chimichangas. The food all came out really quick which was a nice surprise. I liked the fajitas. The veggies came out cooked and soft and they had good flavor. The chimichangas my husband said could have been a little crispier, but were good and had flavor. They were smothered with cheese and he liked that. I think my only complaint was the black beans I got with my meal instead of refried beans and the white rice that didn't have much flavor. The Mexican rice in my opinion would have been better. The server was great. He was on top of it and always took care of us. Will definitely try it again. read more

This is my sister's home away from home, as she has Celiac and they take good care of her and her picky picky children (my adorable nieces). I like coming here with her... always good good, friendly staff. I will say though that getting the vegetarian fajita quesadilla is only good if your gut can handle a lot of grease....I honestly couldn't enjoy it. But every other time I go there, I like what I get (the flautas, the fajitas, the arroz con pollo for example). Take advantage of their specials on margaritas if they are available when you come! It was a ton of food, my buddy with me liked his Chimichanga. The carne asada was really flat and weird looking but my Dad said it was good. Margarita's were $2.99 that night, can't beat that! But, alas it tasted mostly like just sour mix, but it was better once I added an extra shot of Tequila to it. The guacamole was really good and for $3.95?!?! Are you kidding me, that is cheaper than Chipotle! How anyone can complain about that price for guac is beyond me. I pay easily $10 for fresh guac of equal portion size in NJ. Our service was ok, we ordered the guac and he forgot it so it came with the meal and he was kind of absent, but not the end of the world. The food and service is horrible. Ordered soft beef tacos and when I got them, they were soaked in grease and soggy. I told the waiter and all he had to say was okay. I asked if I could change to chicken so it was not greasy. When I got the chicken tacos they were soaked in grease as well and tasted disgusting with chicken bones all in them. For central VA Mexican food, it was not half bad. I ordered a bean and cheese enchilada and a chili relleno, with a side of rice and beans. After eating chips and my entire meal I was still hungry.
