Used to love this place. But new owners have changed some recipes white sauce and cheese dip not as good. And taco salad shells are always burnt. Refried beans are really spicier then they use to be and ground beef is watery and no flavor. Have gone 5 to 6 times sense new management. We went with some friends for taco Tuesday. The food was great but the second I got home I had to go straight to the bathroom. The food went straight through me I don't think I will be eating there again on taco Tuesday. Also the sever we had basically didn't really wait on us. But the most important is the fact that the waitress took my credit card to the kitchen and took pictures of it and then tried using it that night. I was a customer of this establishment in the early 2000's but due to poor management, stopped patronizing this restaurant. In October 2021, a few friends and myself, decided to go have some Margaritas and chosen El Caporal (Chesterfield VA). What an AMAZING PLACE!! The Manager has an Excellent Staff and are well trained in Customer Service. All the waiters are very attentive of the needs of customers. Food was excellent and very tasty. The Bartender is a skilled craftsman and his drinks are a work of talent and skill. He once told me that he would never serve a drink to a customer until it was perfectly done. His attention to detail is a asset to his ability to create incredible cocktails. Everybody is friendly and always have smiles on their faces. The Manager and Staff are always checking on the customers and there is never a wait to be served. The food is served quickly and always delicious. Very good Mexican food! Had the Chipotle Burrito and found it very flavorful and delcious! The guac salad was excellent, some of the best guacamole I've ever had. Used to meet friends at the El Caporal in Colonial Heights and knew that the family who owned that one opened up the Centralia location. Always have been a big fan of the Pollo Chipotle and the Pollo Sabroso from the Colonial Heights location and that hasn't changed at all for the Centralia location. Service is always top notch and the quality of the food is always amazing and consistent. The queso dip for the chips is fantastic and will keep you craving more. The prices are pretty standard for a Mexican restaurant and it's nice to have such a good option close by. read more

So my mom and I went here on a Sunday afternoon before going grocery shopping. Full disclosure: I LOVE Mexican food! This was our first time visiting this place. It was a quaint and cute little spot. It was kinda empty so we were seated immediately. We took a few minutes, looked over the menu, and then came the flies. I know what you're thinking; you think we'll be leaving soon. Nope! I decide to stay because the food looked delicious so we ordered. We ate our tortilla chips and queso and batted away the flies. Soon after our food came and I truly enjoyed it. I ordered the burrito texana and it was so tasty and cheesy. My mom enjoyed and finished her meal. I could not because we were literally accosted by flies. Our server came over to check on us and I mentioned that the food was great, but the flies were not. He shrugged it off and walked away (must have heard that complaint a million times). I tried to struggle through it, but I couldn't and asked for a box for my barely eaten food and paid and left. I finished my meal in the car on the way to the store and it was yummy. I would love to return, but the flies were disgusting. Thankfully I kept them away from my food, but they really need to get rid of the flies because it's very unsanitary. I doubt I will return any time soon with so many other options in the area. read more

El Cap is amazing!! The food is delicious-you can't go wrong with anything you order. The wait staff is so friendly and personable and the manager is the nicest guy who truly seems to enjoy chatting with his customers. The prices are decent, as well. If there's any negative it would be with the air conditioning, but to be fair, we went when it was 90+ degrees and the restaurant was crowded. I would eat there every other day if it were possible. I have to agree with many of the previous post. This restaurant has not let my family and I down yet. Consistently the food is delicious. The staff are not only friendly but they remember us and our usual orders every time we come in or just call!.. Pretty impressive!. Dining in is a great experience with great service and ordering take out is just a pleasing. The portions are very large especially for the price! The food is always fresh, hot and prompt. I went here last night with my boyfriend and his dad and his step mom, this was both his step mom and my first time here. It was a busy night, which we are fine with. After we sat down for 15 minutes another group of 4 came and sat near us having the same waitress. Our waitress was doing fine at that point. We ordered our food 10 minutes before the other table ordered their dinner. Then, the other table got their food BEFORE we did. It was at least thirty minutes while waiting on our food, at this point, and our waitress was socializing with other people then 15 minutes later and told us that the kitchen is having difficulties. To us, it didn't make any sense that how a table sat down and ordered after us got their food before we did. She didn't apologize for the inconvenience. We had our drinks on the end of the booth for refills, she saw that we needed refills but didn't acknowledge and took the initiative to go get the refills of our drinks, we had to stop her and ask for them. 5 minutes later, she came back with our food, we waited for 45-50 minutes for quesadillas and enchiladas. When she came back with drinks, she messed up my boyfriend's drink also (even though she asked him what he wanted and told her three times). When we got our food, my boyfriend and his dad both ordered a cheese and steak quesadilla, they had a lot more of steak in one quesadilla and not the other, one of my enchiladas, my steak was overdone and super tough. We also had to get the manager to come over to speak about the inconvenience of the other table getting their food at the normal time before us and we didn't get our food until much later, our waitress didn't even say how the other table got their food before us and blamed us of how our food is the one causing the difficulties. read more

Horrible service AND food.... even the water (in a plastic glass, with a short straw) was disgusting and lukewarm. Will probably never return there. Started with the waitress (I should have asked for her name!) - who never introduced herself; as we entered the door, she picked the menus and told us (2 of us) to follow her. No greeting whatsoever. We looked behind thinking she was talking to someone else! The restaurant was not even 1/4 full - she took forever to come back to take the order. By that time, we already knew what we wanted and ordered very quickly and simply: an entreé and a combo. She looked impatient - like if we were in her way or something. Really awful: a robot would have been nicer! No joke. Food arrived: O.M.G. - if you have hypertension - make sure to call an ambulance in advance, and let them stand-by. Unbelievably salty. I think they use a ready-made seasoning mixture and double the amount recommended. I could not finish even 1/4 of my rice and beans (equally salted to the extreme.) The fish in the tacos was not bad tasting (but also very salty,) but there was only a few tiny pieces of fish (squares) in a small soft tortilla, with a couple of lettuce. They might use Sazon (or the alike) to season everything: there was one flavor for all, plus 1/2 pound of salt! With the horrible water, all that seasoning junk (I bet it was loaded with MSG - monosodium glutamate), and not a soda drinker... I had to leave and go home to get something to dilute that salt! After finishing eating 1/4 of the food - we had to grab another gentleman (server) to get the 'flavorless' waitress, to give us the check, which I regret paying for. (My fault: I was not in the 'quarreling mood' and was very hungry arriving there. Waitress 'mad-face' never, once, came back to check on us or see if we needed something. Again, I should have reported to a manager - but at that point, I thought: "They are probably a family or all the same. Why get more upset for nothing!" We just decide to never go there again; that is a bigger loss. Not sure if the positive, 5 stars here, are from reviewers who were paid to give high stars; or they went there at a different time; or if they got free food to give a good review. Unfortunately, there is a lot of that. But, some people had the same bad experience, as we did. Believe us! I usually write lots of reviews, and am brutally honest.
