Salsa, green avocado salsa, black bean dip and margarita.

First off, walking in the customer service was great. The server was very hospitable and friendly. Margaritas are really good. The food is authentic Mexican food. The chips are definitely made fresh. They serve the chips with green avocado salsa, black bean dip, and fresh salsa. The flautas were soooo good. We also tried the fajita tacos and they were delicious. The atmosphere is great! Really cool pictures all over the walls. We will definitely be back again.

Being from Southern California I was excited to try some Texas Mexican for the first time and I was not disappointed! Very charming place, super friendly servers and amazing food. Very authentic and flavorful. The chips and salsa were the best I've ever had. Torta was well put together and a good balance of flavors. Definitely made with love

Service bar, the place is littered with posters for wrestling, movies, and more. Such a vibrant atmosphere with great music.

From the moment you walked into and the moment you left, this place was such a cozy experience. It's brightly decorated with posters from sports, music, and film. The background music wasn't overbearing. You could actually talk with your company. There were too many choices, so we ended up getting a few different items to try, and it was worth it. The freshness was refreshing, and flavors were complex but subtle. The mole was perfectly balanced, and found it was an aunt who created it. There were two guys who took care of us. Both were very attentive and kind. A heads up, you will have a small wait for the good, but it's worth it. Even though we were very full, we got dessert anyways; a super rich and decant chocolate cake as well to a caramel filled churro. I beg you to come try this place, it's an experience that's unforgettable!

I was rolling down Jefferson with my toddler nephew when I saw the magic word "birria" on some signage outside El Catrin. We immediately detoured into the color explosion that is this cute Mexican restaurant! The woman working was very nice and the food was great. I ordered the birria tacos and my nephew had chicken nuggets. The nuggets were toddler-approved and were a hit, and the birria were probably the best tacos I've had so far in the city. However, there was no consommé/stew to dip it in which was the only negative. I'll be back to work through more of the menu, this place is great!!

Like i told the guy working. Rare i visit a place twice. Let alone in the same week. I'm quite satisfied with service and food quality. The food was flavorful and hot and the salsas... YES PLEASE! Spicy/hot is right where I want to be. Mom had the enchiladas and I had the Birria tacos. The quesadilla was a next day item with breakfast and family was happy. A solid choice. The inside of this establishment is very on theme for culture and decor. I can see myself sitting with friends or whoever and having a beer and some food. Its not totally tex mex like some of these other places. I may have found my spot. A third and fourth time will be needed with other dishes to officially decide.

We were in the neighborhood at the Bishop Arts Theatre Center. Yelp led us here, and I'm so glad it did. Brightly colored, and filled with families, we were welcomed in immediately. We had birria tacos, chicken enchilidas, and carne asada. Very much a iykyk kinda place with large portions and low prices. Highly recommend.

Awful service, so so good and poor ambiance. Entered and no one let us know to sit or wait for a table. Asked for a regular coke and 3 people had to come over and discuss the choices with me. ( I speak fluent Spanish) Then received salsa and chips. We asked for salt. It took 20 minutes to receive it. Ordered birria tacos and rice and beans. They stared at us like what did you want? I asked for no cheese on my bottom tacos and they brought soft tacos with no birria consome. When I asked about the wrong items brought to me: 4 more people came over to figure it out. Finally received the right order. I then went to tue bathroom and the door lock was not working so people walked in on me. Meat was too bland. Salsas we're so so Will not be returning or recommending

Since the weather has been so nice lately, outdoor seating is super popular, so I'd recommend making a reservation if you can. Highly recommend for a nice lunch or dinner during the weekend. We'll definitely be coming back again!

The location is super cute and always packed. You definitely need a reservation or have to go super early to get a spot. There is valet parking as well as street parking, which can get a bit crowded. I've had a ton of different food items the years, but their fajitas are their signature dish for a reason! It comes out sizzling, fresh, and delicious. Do not pass up on the bone marrow sauce, it transforms the dish to beyond a 10/10! The salsas are always good and then tortilla chips salty and fresh. I start with a skinny margarita w a salt rim, which was good. Our waiter, Abraham, was great! He was very attentive and was very knowledgeable about the menu. We also order the ceviche to start, which was yummy! The crackers were a bit of an odd pairing for me and I stuck with tortilla chips, but overall delicious!! My friend ordered the steak quesadilla and thought it was tasty too.

We hung out comfortably and had a couple of drinks before heading out. The food is amazing!! Obviously every dish is meat based here and it's cooked to perfection. Here in Texas, chips and salsa are such a commonplace experience it's off-putting to pay for them. We ordered the guacamole and the chips and salsa come with it, so that was, I guess, better...but the guacamole was $16, so there's that. The salsa was tasty as was the guacamole, but again, for the portion it's really not worth it. We had the queso flameado, which was yummy and the flour tortillas are good! We split the sirloin and were underwhelmed. For a grilled meats place the steak was very under seasoned and wasn't giving us fresh hot grilled vibes. Meh at best, as were the rice and beans. We ordered elote as a side and it was really the best thing we ate. Service was friendly and efficient! Cocktails average $16ish. Again, for the prices we expected better.

Chris our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took his time walking us through the menu and explaining what made El Carlos Elegante so special. The drinks were perfect. My wife loved her Desert Flor while I thoroughly enjoyed my Modelo Micheleda. Her Surf and Turf one hitter was exceptional. I have to say my Crab Cake was just ok. It tasted a little pasty and very heavy on the bread. The Pulpo was absolutely amazing. Perfect texture and the sauce it was served almost had me licking the plate. The El Machete was incredible from its presentation, to the freshness of the corn tortilla, to the quality of the meat inside. Definitely recommend this. We really liked our Okra + Shishito course, we just wished it had more okra in it. The two things I loved about the Al Pastor was of course the sauce it was served on but the fact that I got to enjoy it like a steak. It was served sliced on a bias like flank steak. Typically Al Pastor is finely chopped and served in tacos and burritos, so this was a different eating experience for me. And of course it was delicious as well. We cannot wait to come back and try more of the menu.

That visit checked every box -- the food, service, ambiance, and overall hospitality were all exceptional. What really stood out to me then was the attention to detail. I had casually mentioned that one of my cocktails wasn't quite my taste, and Harry personally reached out afterward to say they'd gladly adjust it next time. That kind of thoughtful follow-up leaves a lasting impression and is exactly the sort of hospitality that elevates a restaurant experience. Unfortunately, this recent visit felt like a completely different restaurant. We decided to do a combination of à la carte dishes along with the Experience menu after being told this version would feature entirely off-menu items, which genuinely intrigued us since Ihad also done the Experience previously. At the start of dinner, we were asked about allergies and dietary restrictions. I clearly explained that I have a mango allergy and do not eat beef. Our server then asked whether I ate other meats, and I clarified yes -- and even specifically mentioned that if the machete dish was beef, please still include it because my friend could enjoy it and I really wanted her to try it. He confirmed it would be the sirloin version, so we happily agreed not to modify that course. So imagine our surprise when one of the first dishes arrived dressed with a mango vinaigrette. Thankfully, we barely caught him quietly mentioning "mango" as he set it down. We immediately looked at each other thinking, "Didn't we just discuss the allergy?" It was disappointing, but unfortunately also representative of the overall service throughout the evening. Our server seemed disengaged, inattentive, and often not fully listening. Empty glasses sat untouched, opportunities to order additional items were missed, and at one point we were simply handed the check without even being asked if we wanted anything else. We also ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and ended up pouring it ourselves for most of the evening because our glasses were rarely refilled. I completely understand not leaving the bottle tableside if walkway space is limited, but repeatedly needing to get up ourselves to retrieve it felt out of sync with the level of service one expects from a Michelin-recommended restaurant -- especially at this price point. Then came the machete dish. Instead of the sirloin version we specifically discussed, we received the vegetarian potato version. When the server asked how it looked, I politely explained that we were disappointed because he had specifically told us it would be the sirloin preparation. At minimum, I would have expected another protein substitution given the earlier conversation about what I could eat. I'm also still unclear whether the Experience menu was truly "off-menu" as described, since several dishes -- including the halibut -- appeared familiar. Had that been communicated differently, we likely would have skipped the Experience altogether and simply curated our own meal. At the end of the night, spending over $500 while pouring our own wine, nearly being served an allergen we explicitly disclosed, and receiving dishes different from what was promised made for a deeply disappointing experience -- especially after such a phenomenal first visit. It honestly felt sad more than anything because I know how wonderful this restaurant can be. I'm not sure what changed in the last five months, but the difference was significant.
