Probably one of the worst Mexican places I've been to. The food was okay... the cheese in my enchilada wasn't melted so that was a huge turn off. By far this is the worst service at any restaurant!!! First we weren't brought chips, only salsa and we had to go find someone after waiting for 15 minutes to get chips. Then probably three people walked by before we then had to get up and find someone to refill our salsa and drinks. Not impressed at all with the service. We have eaten at El Charro a couple of times now. The food is good and fresh and it's a good value for the money. El Charro is more authentic than a lot of the local Mexican places we've tried and I love that my burrito dos not come smothered in cheese! Service was fast and attentive. We will be back! read more

The server was good, but this was some of the worst Mexican food we've ever had. The mole on the enchiladas tasted sweet like chocolate syrup. I scraped it off and used hot sauce as my enchilada sauce instead. My dining partner got a chile relleno and it was an omelet with some bits of pepper in it. The margaritas tasted like sour mix and no whiff of tequila at all. Save your money (it was $50 for all of that) and go elsewhere. read more

Salsa was really good. Service was horrible. Dinner was mediocre. Everything had fresh jalepenos on it, but they did not chop them enough so u got suprising bites of fire. I ordered the carne asada burrito and it seemed to be slopped together like fast food places do it. LUckily I didnt have to pay extra to get guacamole n sour cream on my food. If you order something else you probably will though. Dessert was obviously premade. I have never had deep fried ice cream that I didn't like. The outter shell was too tuff to chew. It seemed like it had been in a freezer for three months. I will never be going back. If you want good mexican and you are in the sumner area just drive to puyallup. Finally...an authentic Mexican place close to home we absolutely love. The burritos are amazing!! The outside of the restaurant along with the parking lot needs a little work. Greatest Mexican food in town! It is easy to recognize, with the bright orange paint. Lots of parking, so that won't be a hassle. Inside the restaurant is well-kept. Lots of seating, and it can get busy. Great Ambiance! The serving sizes are HUGE!!! I don't how anyone can finish it all! But the food is delicious. Love the Piña coladas. They will start you off with a bowl of warm chips with very spicy salsa and pico guacamole. I do not know if that's actually what it's called but still very good. The plates are very hot, don't touch! There are TVs throughout the restaurant, and there is Mexican music playing. Waitresses are nice. This is a great place to go if you want an authentic Mexican meal. The servings are generous and every dish is full of flavor. I highly recommended their signature El Charro Burrito! You get pretty average food here. I ordered the Carne Asada burrito and was a disappointed that the majority of contents in the burrito were refried beans and rice with a small portion of steak. You pay the premium for carne asada and don't get very much at all. The salsa was a bit watery, and it tasted like store bought salsa. Very bland, the chips and dip were ok, but the beans were like tasteless gravy. Asked for Pico De Gio, said they would check to see if the had any, didn't come back. Ordered the #17 Combination Plate, but when they brought me the check, said they would have to charge me more because I ordered TWO ITEMS, hmmm, I always considered a combination plate more than one item, but I guess not according to this restaurant. They said they would have to charge me more for two items, and then said the menu was wrong, well fix it if it's wrong, or at least mention it when ordering! There have got to be better restaurants in the area than this place, if they are too lazy to fix a menu, what else are they lazy about behind the kitchen door?? As for service, we had to ask for more salsa, we were never offered refills on drinks, no one asked how our meal was, because they obviously didn't care. First off, the service was terrible! Granted, it was very busy so that might explain why the 5 gals I saw working the floor were all very grumpy looking... They were all rushing around bouncing back and forth like mad. I mean, I made eye contact more than once with every single one of them and got nothing.... No smile, no hello, no how is your food.....Nothing but grumpy blank stares or the don't bother me look..... The chips were not fresh and the pica they served on the side with the salsa looked like it sat under a heat lamp all day, which we definitely did not try. So on to the entree food, it took a very very long time to get to our table. My husband and I both got the chicken fajitas. The portions were so very small....really small for the price, they should of been twice that size. The plates of beans and rice came first then another 5 minutes go by before our fajitas came. But.....the taste was excellent, the flavor was so spot on that all the negative stuff went out the window! We both said , we're coming back this food tastes great!! So since the food was so tasty, looked so fresh, tasted fresh and the appearance perfect....... Why in the heck did my husband and I both get Diarrhea on the way home?!?!!! I mean we almost didn't make it home... I was speeding... REALLY speeding! Thank goodness for two bathrooms! We have been here 3 times and each time gets worse. The food is average, nothing to get the WOW factor about. Each time there, there has been a chill in the air, there are kids that are staying there while parents work, playing and yelling, and the service keeps getting slower and slower. Each time we have been there the kids treat the place like a play ground. This last time was the worst and probably the last time. It was so cold, the food didn't stay hot and the waitress was even wearing a thick coat. The food wasn't that good and the kids were so loud you thought you were on a play ground. The kids were running around1/2 of the restaurant yelling, screaming it made for a really terrible evening. We love Mexican food but DO NOT like eating in an icebox or in a child's playground .... just came home from "eating " there and actually rejected my food,,FIRST time in my life I have ever done that,It was disgusting.. I love mexican food and this was the worst void of taste ,disgusting food I have ever tried to eat,I complained,told her I would pay half ,,My margarita and food costs but it wasjust too disgusting to eat .The waitress was very nasty and called the police and he came out and said ,,your customer does not like the food..deal with it...she ended up taking the 20.00 I offered her on the 40.00 dollar lunch ,,I only took a couple bites as did my 2 grandchildren and we all had stomach aches and felt like throwing up...NEVER again Obviously!! read more

When the Ramos family owned it, it was a good place to eat. Good food and plenty of it. And his kids were always friendly and service was great. Had dinner there last night but never again. Had to wait for water & chips (which were tasteless). Told the server we were ready to order when she brought the chips said she'd have our waitress come right over. Waited about 10 minutes when another waitress finally arrived. (Think there was only one other person in the place) Ordered 2 taco salads & a beer (had to ask for an icy glass) Taco salads were OK but were the size of a small side salad, Ground beef was soggy and almost the consistency of baby food, topped with huge mount of shredded lettuce, guacamole and sour cream, but no topping of cheese, tomato, olives or green onions. Not very appealing but we needed to eat. Told the waitress that it was the smallest taco salad we'd ever had but no apologies. Very disappointed with the service and food. This is a solid little Mexican place where my husband and I like to go for the shrimp fajitas for two. Is it the most amazing Mexican food I've ever had? Probably not, but they make pretty darn good margaritas, the place is always clean, and the fajita plate is consistent and predictably tasty and filling for a reasonable price. FALSE ADVERTISING! BAIT AND SWITCH! This restaurant has been offering a BOGO coupon in the Entertainment book for years. My wife and I dined here for the first time this past weekend and upon attempting to pay our bill were notified they are not accepting the Entertainment Book coupons any more. The coupon is new and does not expire until Nov 2017. We had already dined and were being billed for the entire meal even though we had a valid coupon, which was our only reason for eating at this restaurant. If they did not offer the coupon, we would not have eaten there that day. We advised the female manager that we thought they should offer the coupon because it is still valid, and she pointed at the front door which had a sing on it indicating they are not accepting the Entertainment coupons. My wife nor I saw the sign upon entering the business because we were carrying our baby and someone held the door open for us as they were exciting. The manager very rudely stated we should have seen the sign and will not accept the coupon. My wife asked if there was any way we could some to some sort of an agreeable resolution, and the manager became more rude and flippantly flipped the entire bill down on the counter in front of us. I said that is not fair and I was not going to pay for the portion offered by the coupon, and tried to pay the balance with cash, she would not accept it. I said I was not going to pay the entire bill because I have a valid coupon, and the manager said she was going to call the police on me. I allowed her to do so and again offered to pay for the portion of the bill with the coupon and she was again very rude and refused. I showed my ID and left the building, advising we were going down the street to get a milkshake. The police showed up and stated she was refusing to accept the coupon and DEMANDING the entire bill be paid. I was forced to go back and pay the entire bill, very embarrassing, to the same rude manager who offer no apologies or understanding. Offering a coupon and refusing to accept is false advertising. VERY very rude customer service. read more

Good service. Menu prices a little higher than before and portion size is about half the size of before. Food was good, but fairly pedestrian. I think most things, the sides like beans and rice, are pre-prepared versus fresh made. The Pico de Gallo appeared to be fresh and was excellent! The real disappointment was that the old El Charro had terrific, special, unique margaritas. This place serves a $9.95 Cadillac Margarita that ain't bad, but isn't that special, unique drink we used to go to El Charro just to get. It seems that we paid more, for less, for nothing special. It's good food, fairly clean, good service and is now on par with many other Mexican eateries. I hope they find their special, unique dish, drink or specialty that you must go to El Charro to get because that's the only place it is; or is the best place to get it. If not, as-it-is, we can go almost anywhere else to get equally common grub. read more

Wow! Such a bad experience! We had seven kids...they brought 4 kid menus and one crayon...really? Had to ask for beans with the chips...(there are 7 kids) they bring one bean bowl... really? The kids dinner plate was so hot it took 1/2 hour for it to cool. Most Mexican restaurants are good with kids... not these people!!!! Steer clear if you have kids. I too grew up eating El Charro and it was long overdo to be overhauled. We stopped going there years ago, when the food got really salty and the restaurant looked like it needed a complete renovation. We decided to try it again, since we heard that they were under new management, and I am glad that we did. The staff was absolutely amazing!!! I too had a 20 month old that was urging us to go. The staff brought him beans and other goodies to help put him in good spirits, so we could enjoy our food. The food was far better than anything that we have had in the local area. We tend to avoid mexican food, but this is definitely something that we will return for time and time again. We found their prices to be a bit high, but you won't be disappointed. The dishes are filled with fresh vegetables, the rice and beans are fresh and the chips and salsa never run dry. They are incredibly friendly and treat you like family!! Previous owners/family MUCH better then now. Whole family was excited that it had reopened only to be disappointed by service, food qualiy, price and portion. Each time visiting service is disappointing and one of the waiters make rude comments. Maybe he thinks he's being funny but its not working. Prices do not reflect in quality of food or portion. BAD FOR BUSINESS: We had a $50 gift certificate to eat here that we were immediately informed was no longer valid because it was under new ownership. They simply would not accept any part of it, and seemed to feel that was justified since they had not sold it to us. It might be justified, but it's pretty bad for business. Being a small business owner myself I would never dream of blowing off a potential customer by not honoring a gift certificate for a measly $50 just because I didn't it sell it to them. That mistake will cost way more than $50 in the long run. They also told us that they had given this same message to 'many' other people. The food overall was OK, the arroz con pollo was dry, but the salsa and chips were good. We definitely won't be back. Not recommended. read more

I have been coming to the charro since it newly opened , i have celebrated many of my familys special events there with a large amount of family members & never have i encountered a problem with the food , or the servers.. despite the fact that there are negative reviews they always make it up to the customers and i myself have witnessed this. The employees are very humble & nice. Even in their busiests times they always make you feel welcomed and happy to be there. I go to the charro about 2x a week and have always been greeted with a humongous smile and seated right away service is amazingly fast and the food is delicious. You can tell that these folks put dedication into their work. I will be going back to the charro as many times as possible without hesitation! Ohh & try there bacon jalapeños delciouss!!!! 10 out of 5 stars thats for sure. ! read more

The staff was nice. The place looked busy but I guess there just aren't any other options. The portions were big but the food was awful. I don't usually eat very spicy food but I do like flavor. This stuff was just bland and boring. I wanted to go into the kitchen and ask if the cooks had ever heard of paprika, cumin, salt, or pepper. Also, having to go to the front and get the ticket to pay doesn't make sense. Why should the cashier have to search through tickets and ask which one is yours when the waiter could make sure the right people get the ticket. read more

Nailbanger Here Again; Hey Gang this place is a great find here in Sumner Down off Main Street East by the High School. The Food was 4 star Delicioso and Authentic as you will get here in the Pacific Northwest anyway.Sorry we are from Tucson, AZ that the best I can give you. They offer a big menu selection and at a reasonable price. My wife got the Enchiladas #35 combo with (3) Picadillo (that is Shredded Beef for you Gringos out there) $11.75, I got the #30 Combo, Chili Relleno,Taco, Bean Tostada and Enchilada. Both Dinners came with Rice and Beans. They offer both whole and refried Beans. The Salsa and Chip are complimentary and the salsa is OK, but there is room for improvement . The atmosphere is Traditional Mexican style.The Service was a-bit lacking ,but I have seen much worse.They offer Beer, Wine , and Margaritas at the Bar. They have decent bathrooms and plenty of parking.We will definitely be back soon. Mon- Thurs 11 AM-9:30 PM, Fri & Sat 11 AM- 10 PM, Sun 11 AM - 9 PM.Enjoy read more
