Both food and service did not disappoint. A shot of tequila, shrimp soup were included when you dine in. They will only take CASH and US dollar is acceptable. Check to see the exchange rate as it is posted. Change will be given in pesos though. Hubby and I ordered a couple of tostadas and a shrimp ceviche. All were really good. We tried the green sauce for the ceviche and it has. A little kick to it. Margaritas are huge! I can only drink one! We have been coming to Puerto Vallarta for 30 years and this was our first visit to El Coleguita. We weren't missing much. Service was average. Free seafood soup just so so broth. Surf and Turf Fajitas were okay, but shrimp should have been cleaned of "vein", if you know what I mean. We weren't offered the free house tequila shot nor the Kahlua drink. Wow, this place offers so many complimentary add ons your head will spin 3 shots of tequila per person, shrimp broth, fried bananas and Kahlua are all included with your meal (too much for my tummy to handle!) I had the Baja fish taco and a shrimp taco, both delicious but would have been better with a chipotle sauce instead of the avocado sauce it was served with in my opinion. Food is great, but shrimp are not served deveined. The coconut shrimp are delicious. My aunt & uncle both got a plate that included lobster, salmon and shrimp. On the very north end of the marina. We came around just when it opened around noon and it was empty inside except for the staff being seated around two tables. Maybe getting pumped up for the start of the day? Anyways, we got seated quickly and food came out rather quickly too being we were the first customers. We were treated to a shot of tequila and a shrimp broth to start. The shrimp broth is like a seafood soup with a single shrimp meatball in it. It was...okay. We ordered a mango smoothie, fried rice, chicharrones de pescado, and coleguita platter. Wanted to get the Red Snapper, but they were out :( The mango smoothie was huge, but it was really good. The fried rice was okay, I just really needed to get some fried rice in me after eating mexican for so many days. The chicharrones wasn't that great. I don't think I've ever had chicharrones before, so maybe my expectations were off, but it was basically just fried dough. There's barely any fish meat in there. It was oily, and dry, and crunchy. The platter was okay too. The soup was kind of meh, lacked in flavor, the fish in this plate was actually pretty good, and the shrimp on the side again was just average. Ended with a complimentary fried bananas dessert, which was really good, and a kalhua, which is, well, kalhua. Overall, the meal was okay. Probably paid around $40 usd for a family of 4 total. So a decent deal, but you're in Puerto Vallarta, you can find just as a good prices on a much better meal even just down the block in the marina. read more

This restaurant is situated along the Marina Vallarta Boardwalk. It was a good mixture of locals and tourists. It got a little loud with a moving band playing throughout the restaurant but settled down. We ordered the fish tacos, octopus "pulpo zarandeado" and the fish cooked in a banana leaf "Empapelado De Filete Al Pibil". The fish tacos were good but nothing special. The octopus was perfectly cooked on the skewers with well balanced spiced seasoning and was definitely a good portion for one person. The fish in banana leaf was just cooked to a buttery and light perfection with all the right seasonings and flavors. Couldn't get enough of it that almost forgot about the rice and salad. We have been twice now and that will be it. You start with shrimp soup which hardly has anything but broth in it but it's tasty. Chips and pico at the table but the chips are packaged and dry so not a fan. I had the lobster special at the recommendation of the waitress, it wasn't very good. Decent portion of 3 or so tiny lobsters but ehh. The shrimp were decent, but the white fish it came with was meager. Kids got some fried fish, fries and fruit in a boat, with a surprise. Fish was ok, fries weren't good and the fruit was tiny bits of melon so not winning any awards here. Wife got the shrimp special which was pretty good, best of the table. Had lunch today here. Service was good, the place was clean and the food was good. We started out with the guacamole which was decent but not huge in seasonings but lime juice. We also had chips and salsa and the salsa was very good. For the main courses we ordered 3 dishes. The first was the TERMINATOR Lobster. This dish had a small lobster with cheese, grilled and peeled shrimp and whole shrimp with shell minis the head. Everything was tasty and this was the best of the 3 dishes.. The next dish was the cooked Octopus which was just ok. It was slightly on the mushy side without the usual slighty firm yet tender consistency Definitely had better here in PV as you can see on my other reviews. Cooked with butter and garlic it was just ok, not great. The last dish was the combo octopus and shrimp salad with avocado. It was like a big plate of unchopped ceviche. Not bad but nothing special. I had high hopes from other reviews but the meal was just average to me. I would go back but with so many other great places in PV and around the Marina I think there are a lot of choices I would pick before this one. 3 stars. I went here based on the reviews and because my wife really wanted seafood. To be honest, this place was a little of a let down. First thing to show up was a bottle of tequila with a couple of plastic shot cups and some chips and salsa. Each person gets two shots on the house. A nice touch. The chips were prepackaged, but the salsa was decent. We ordered guacamole, which showed up with another prepackaged bag of chip. The guacamole was fresh, but kind of bland. We used a couple of the limes that came with the tequila to give it some flavor. My wife had the ceviche and I had the fajitas. Both were kind of so so. They also don't take credit cards and are cash only. There are lots of other choices in the marina and we found a place we like much better on the opposite end (Mariachiles). Fun experience and good food. Friendly staff and a nice location at the Marina. Start with complimentary fish broth soup and tostadas. Great house margaritas ($75 pesos) and good selection of other cocktails. Our party enjoyed the Mummy shrimp wrapped with cheese and bacon and served over mashed potatoes with veg. The bacon could have been more crisp but still tasty. Coconut shrimp weren't the best but also not the worst - a bit over cooked so the breading was tough, but delicious flavour. Served atop unique mashed plantains with cinnamon. Third guest enjoyed fried fish (tilapia??) and shrimp scampi combo and indicated the fish was perfectly crisp and the shrimp tender with lots of garlic. Ended the meal with a fried plantain dessert and a Kahlua shot which was a nice touch. About $1100 pesos for 3 people. Enjoyed the meal! This seafood restaurant has been in the Vallarta area since 1989. Be prepared to wait up to an hour at each location. A real favorite of the locals. The Puerto Vallarta location is just on the north side of Vallarta almost to Nuevo Vallarta. The marina location is in the far north end of the Marina in Marina Vallarta. El Coleguita Marina - Two locations that we know of... - Mexican Near Me - Puerto Vallarta, JAL

I've been to Puerto Vallarta twice, once to get married and once to scout out wedding locations. While we were there, we stayed at the Westin Puerto Vallarta which is about a 15 to 20 minute walk from this restaurant. During our first visit to Puerto Vallarta, the car rental guy at Enterprise recommended that we come to this restaurant. And it definitely is a place that we have gone to each time we're in Puerto Vallarta and recommended that many of our friends check out too. Why? Well first things first. When you sit down, you get a complimentary bottle of tequila. They tell you to take 1 to 2 shots per person, which is more than enough to get the dinner/lunch party started. I think some people abuse the fact that they allow you to take a whole bottle of tequila without much supervision, but I would recommend not doing that because it would suck if they took it away! I also blame the tequila (and the margaritas) for never having any pictures to share on Yelp of my meals here. The meal then continues with complimentary soup, which is good but has been a little too salty for my taste. Then you can select your entree, and I highly recommend the seafood if you're a fan of seafood. I think their seafood entrees are the best. You can get shrimp, lobster, and fish for a very reasonable price. I think that the fish could be cooked a little better as it's not super tender and flavorful but you can't beat the price and portions here. And this is really just a great place to get a big group of folks together and have a great time - I think that's what I like most about it. Then, the meal ends with some complimentary Kahlua and fried banana with condensed milk. One note to people from out of town who are seeking to walk here and down the marina. This restaurant is at the very end of the marina, past all of the other restaurants. The owners of those restaurants will very likely try to convince you to come in and try their food instead. El Coleguita doesn't do any of that, probably because they know they're the best thing on the marina. So make sure you have your goal clear in mind - El Coleguita is where you're eating! read more

Don't let the complementary shots fool ya, this place is not that great. Prices are reasonable but food is not the best! Ordered a fish taco "Baja style" and it was a disappointment. Although they did fry it and it was in battered the taste of the sauce was just off. Instead of cabbage they added chopped lettuce and it just didn't have taste. To make it worse the tortilla was cold when I got my food so that didn't help. We also ordered the kids fish sticks with fries and they were so oily my son didn't even want to eat them. read more

Got referred here by a local & wowwww. The service, the food, quantity & quality, location, cleanliness and price are all amazing!!!!!! Free tequila shots on the table, free cup of shrimp soup!, free salsa & tostada, & free caramelized bananas with a cup of kalhua for desert!!! It was amazing!! Get seafood here. I got the mignon of the sea, which I thought was shrimp and filet mignon... Well I was wrong! It's actually 3 minced shrimp patties wrapped in bacon it was soooooo good a fresh. One with a spicy diablo sauce, one with a white gravy & then a plain one for you to sauce up with table sauces or eat plain. Also came with rice, salad bread, fruit etc. 2 huge entrees, guac , a lemonade, with the free goodies. For only $24 American dollars!!! Just what I was craving on my trip to Mexico & better than the bland repetitive food at our all inclusive. Simply amazing, worth the trip & wait if any!! What a great recommendation. We recently had a large group eat at this Resturant. They put us in an all bar area as we waited for our table for our group. The margaritas were to die for. Mango and beers. We were seated and they brought an appetizer of albongas soup. Small bowl. Actually a small cup. It tasted really good other than it was mixed with ocean water as it tasted. We ordered our food and the service was perfect. Some of us ordered shrimp tacos and others ordered burritos and salmon. All terrific. The prices were not bad either. About 35$ for the two of us which included a few more margaritas and beers. The service and food was terrific. The Scenery was right on the marina. This place just wasn't our style. We walked by this place so many evenings and it was always packed. We were drawn by this and the seafood menu. With all the people and cooking, it gets toasty. Ambiance was very noisy. Staff were mediocre. Food was good, but the servings were over the top. We could have easily shared an appetizer and one entree and been more than satisfied. We ordered the mahi topped with octopus (which was great) and a fish dish recommended by the server. It was cooked in a tomato sauce and topped w shrimp, octopus, peppers, onions, and cheese. This dish was good after removing all the cheese - why the cheese? Neither of these were our first two choices. We tried to order two items that were listed on the menu but were told one was seasonal and the other couldn't be made for a reason that wasn't very clear. Uh, ok, but maybe it's good to 1) note which items are seasonally available and/or 2) let folks know which dishes aren't available on a given evening. We did receive some complimentary shrimp soup, but didn't see any of the complimentary drinks or desert other reviewers noted. The final note about this place is the 'waiting area'. I suspect the layout of the chairs which were set out for folks waiting for tables is likely an artifact of the limited space, but the theater-like arrangement was odd. Basically the people waiting to eat sit and stare right at the people trying to enjoy their meals. Julio, our eco tours tour guide recommended this place after we went to Marietas Island. He mentioned that this place gets crowded around 2pm. 1. Talking about free. They have free tequila shot, cup of shrimp meatball soup, tostadas and salsa, sweetened plantain, and cappuccino flavored tequila. 2. Big servings! 3. Very friendly waiter and waitresses. 4. The restroom is clean (huge plus for me). We ordered their special for the day which is the fried tilapia. I ordered the fish with some sweet sauce, Gouda cheese and bell peppers and onions (soooo good). I also had the recommendation from our waiter which is the grilled fish with octopus and shrimp. My mom ordered their ceviche and shrimp taco. We only ate half of what we ordered and ended up with 3 to go boxes. But nope, waiter told me it was cash only and there were no posted signs. Returned to try it after avoiding it for several years. WOW, what a change from the "greasy spoon" we remembered, to a really delightful restaurant with wonderfully cooked and presented dishes, and a supportive great staff. Proper Covid protocols are followed. Tables are ribboned off to maintain proper distancing. Tables and their entire contents are also cleaned and sprayed between patrons. There must have been a change in chef, staff, management and overall approach as we were served and attended to by a TEAM -- not just a waitress, server and bus person. We really felt taken care of -- especially by Elizabeth, Jorge and Sarah. The portions were ample, fresh and tasty. Really enjoyed the Tuna Tostado and the Seafood Tostado. Both appetizers filled their entire plates. The Talapia in paper was filled with sweet fish and vegetables. The Pulpo 3 ways was NICE! My frozen margherita seemed a little weak, so I mentioned it to Elizabeth and she immediately sought to remedy it with a very long continuous pour of Tequiila. It made all difference in the drink itself. We will definitely be returning. Many more dishes on their menu to explore! read more

Nice menu selection, seafood heavy but balanced not to be the only selection. Food is a 3 out of 5, as we know there is better food along the Marina but it is price accordingly.
