A little pricey for very little food. The food and the service where outstanding - the place is just beautiful!!!

In my opinion this is the best restaurant in sonoma by a large amount. The interior and exterior of the building are beautiful and frequently painted and cleaned. The menu rotates after awhile adding new things to try. My favorite is the paella which I've had more than 6 times. The other entrees are just as exquisite and delicious. The appetizers like the peppers, oysters, and truffle fries are some of my favorites and go good with any entree. The food is always presented attractively and tastes even better. The servers are kind and very professional. As for the hotel my stay was very nice. The room over looked a busy sonoma street and the inside was well maintained and comfortable. read more

Came here with my family for Fathers Day. All of the food was great. The bartender was amazing! I'm definitely coming back.

It wasn't great, just average. My Paella was over cooked, dry and somewhat bland in taste. My partner's chicken dish was also bland. The derive was okay, and the wine was good. read more

Not impressed. Maybe it's because I'm not from California, or maybe it's because their risotto lacked any sort of flavor whatsoever. Either way, this place is nice, but overpriced and over hyped. We actually cancelled reservations at some other place to go here and I kinda regret it. Has a slightly snooty atmosphere without the food quality to back it up. Had an impeccable meal here Monday night. We had fantastic service from our server, Harry, who made us feel at home and taken care of. We started with the mussels and the mushroom foam - fantastic. Great combo and the bread in the mussels was mouth watering. Usually I pick entree by process of elimination but in this case I wanted everything. We had the salmon and chicken and loved them both. It's heartbreaking when you start to feel full but are dying to try more. Will definitely be returning -a must when dining on the square! read more

The "peach jalepeno" cocktail is the bomb. I love it....sometimes I have a hard time ordering anything else.....but when I do that drink is always the bomb too. I have had many a yummy meal here and everyone that works in the hotel and restaurant is a delight. read more

I'm not so sure this place really measures up to the general expectation I had going in. Truffle Pomme Frites. Ahi Tuna Special, searched with typical sesame rub. Apple Pie. Evening Meal on a Saturday Early Evening, party of 6. I'd have to rate the food as being very ordinary. For the price its totally lacking. I asked for the Ahi Tuna as rare as they could get it and got it back medium with the two sides cooked to different depths. A kitchen that is overworked or not paying attention I think is the cause here. The ingredients were of great quality however. A total mystery. The interior is a cheap refurbish of the original room. The 80's era soundex ceiling tiles with 4 x 2's nailed up as a faux exposed beam look, really ? The bar and wait staff try to make up for what is lacking but thats just not possible. I have lived in Sonoma for over 20 years, and have visited the EDK a few times. I had dinner there with a date last Monday night, in the café room. They offer the same menu there as in the main dining room. Atmosphere in that room is nice. Casual, airy, light streaming in. Our waitress was just right: attentive but in no way invasive. The problem for us was the food. It's the classic big plate/little food joint, in which the conversation goes quiet when the entrée plates are put in front of you because of the disappointing portion sizes. My date had the salmon, which was quite small and came with a vegetable bite or two and a helping of orange FOAM. Foam does not qualify as food, people. Who even likes foam? He was finished with the fish in about seven minutes and was clearly hungry afterwards. I had the duck. It was modestly portioned but delicious, actually. However, the tiny amount of pale, unexciting veg was, again, disappointing, and for what one is charged per entrée, it does feel like one is being taken advantage of. No bread was served. The grand finale: Cherry Crisp. Except no crisp. It was a small amount of stewed cherries with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream/gelato and a shortbread cookie. Hello? Something tells me that management doesn't take much stock on these reviews, as I don't see any replies. We ate here yesterday with two friends (have all eaten here before apart from one of our party) Two of us ordered fish & chips, and the others ordered mushroom risotto and burrata with a side of tortilla soup. Accompanying wines we ordered were all really good, but there was a long delay on the two portions of fish and chips. The staff really redeemed themselves with the way they handled the delay - these things do happen and are never indicative of anything other than the nature of the hospitality industry... First off we got an apology for the delay, then we all got our wines topped up and a complimentary Coke for our non wine drinking friend. Then, on receiving the check (we would gladly have stayed for pudding but were a little pushed for time alas) we saw that they have already removed the fish & chips from the check - wow - that is what I call pro-active! I loved every little thing about this restaurant. I went there with my husband on our minimoon. We didn't know anything about this place. We didn't order any drinks since we had too much wine tasting throughout the day, so just ordered dinner. We ordered oysters and steak tartar for appetizer. I was told that Feb was the season of oysters, and she wasn't wrong. We had oysters from a mix of three different regions. It was very fresh, and the restaurant presented very well. It is always very hard to find a restaurant with a decent steak tartare dish, and I was just sad that this kitchen wasn't in the neighborhood of my hometown. Entree was very delicious as well!! Anyone in Sonoma neighborhood, I would highly recommend to make a visit to this restaurant!! read more

Great atmosphere, especially the bar. Service was nice and the place is very elegant. I like the city restaurant feel in little downtown Sonoma. I am only giving three stars because the entrees are just average, in my opinion. The presentation is wonderful, but the overall meal is lacking something. A little too rich, a little too small, and a little too expensive. A good comparison to me is Bouchon, which should be taken as a compliment since that place has had rave reviews (a restaurant where my review would be very similar). So if you love that restaurant, you should love EDK. read more

My husband and I eat here all the time. Whenever we have guests in town, we bring them to EDK. However, the last two times we have brought people for dinner, we were all very disappointed. Maybe there is a new chef? The Beet salad is normally very good, but the last two times it has been bland. I always get the Vegetable Risotto, but again, the last time I went it was like soup, and very bland. I tried the chipotle tomato soup this time as a new item on the menu. Yikes, it tasted like spicy Marinara sauce out of a can. I hope they fix whatever is going on in the kitchen. The atmosphere is great and drinks are always consistent. read more

The service at this restaurant is not good. It took twice as long to order anything and there are not enough waiter staff. I ordered the sea bass, they didn't have it and substituted with halibut which was pretty bland. The overall message is that this restaurant is good for drinks and light appetizers, and if your looking for dinner it may take you an hour or more to get any service. Also be aware that appetizers are light on portion and prices are high. Try the Girl and The Fig instead. read more

A totally overpriced and well below average restaurant on the plaza. Obviously designed for the tourists in town. Had the salmon Benedict and the chorizo and veggie skillet. Eggs were thin (definitely not farm eggs), I ordered mine without the chorizo but still got several bites of it. Didn't bother trying to flag down the nonexistent service staff. I'd say go elsewhere, but where else serves good breakfast in town? read more

I went to EDK this past weekend and had a perfect dinner. We were lucky and to our surprise it was restaurant week in Sonoma so the restaurant offered a special three course menu for $39. Super cheap for how much we got. Typically when restaurants offer a special three course menu the portions are smaller....not the case with EDK. The food was delicious, service was friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was elegant without being too pretentious. I will definitely be back! FYI- The truffle fries are AMAZING! read more

Wow. I'm really surprised at the positive reviews. My experience here was rushed, and the food bland, uninspiring and taste-less. I had a birthday party here in there back room, closed off by black curtains on a weekend a few months ago. I really set myself up, because I had read such great reviews. When the food arrived, it was so blah! I actually began to wonder if I was in the wrong place. I don't know what happened but it felt very disorganized and I felt like the weekend staff was rushed and hastily thrown together. Not to mention, the service staff really kept pushing the wine and drink orders, which only made the tab ridiculously high. No one approached me to suggest bottles of wine vs. individual wine glasses. I'm so shocked and disappointed that I will never eat here again. Moreover, the restaurant is trying to aim for a modern simplicity but it's so sparse it translates into boring decor. Given so many other fantastic restaurants around the square, like the Girl and the Fig, I will not be taking my chances on this one anymore. I rediscovered EDK while dining with my friend that I mentor. The Chicken Noodle soup is imaginative, with flavors that pop in your mouth; the crab cakes are to die for....and the daily pizza's are The Best ever. I love EDK and since my outing with my little friend, I've been there 2 other times within 2 weeks. The food, the service, the ambiance are all amazing. I love this place! read more

Best hamburger around and I'm picky. The burger is cooked on a griddle, not charbroiled, so it retains its juice. The bun is a French potato bun. The ratio of meat to bun is important and they just about get it right. You will end up licking your fingers it's so juicy. Also had the tapioca with fresh fruit and fruit sorbet, today it was raspberries, topped with toasted coconut. Heavenly! read more

I've never stayed overnight at the hotel, but I was working in Sonoma for a few weeks on end, and found the bar at the EDK to be exactly what I needed after a 15 hour day. The whole place is relaxing. It's just... easy. Sit outside on a summer day, and it's bliss. Throw on your sunglasses and sip your drink slowly. Light up a cigarette if you're alone on the patio, or step out front if you aren't. This place is a pleasure. Nice bartenders and serving staff, and delicious snacks if you get hungry. came here for dinner...initially thought we were looking into a mexican restaurant..oops...but what a great mistake we made... lovely place, great patio, and enough vegetarian options as well had the ravioli that was just absolutely outstanding, so flavorful and not too heavy. the burrata appetizer was also very good everyone in my party seemed to be really happy with their meals. not going to lie, not the cheapest place to eat dinner but definitely worth it...great service. highly recommended (just dont expect mexican food hahaha) read more

Came here for lunch with a few ladies. Service was great! The place was clean and the food was delicious! All around a great experience. Don't look at the menu online though, when I went I though I knew what I would be ordering but then menu was different when I got there. I had the vegetable sandwich which was very flavorful but very messy to eat. The chocolate Crunch tart for dessert is the way to go! I also got to try the coconut tapioca and it was too odd for my liking. read more

Oh my god this food is heavenly. The white truffle and parmesan fries, the bass with caramelized parsnips, the mushroom pizza with goat cheese - it was like making out with the goddess of deliciousness. This review is for the bar only. My boyfriend and I came here to get a drink around 9:30 on a Friday. It was pretty busy but we were still able to find a seat right up at the bar. I ordered a Moscow mule- one of my favorites, and it was perfectly made! I would call the bartenders here "mixologists." they really know what they are doing. Bartender was very friendly and was able to answer all of the questions we had. We stayed for about an hour and ordered the cheese plate- a great selection with apples, fruit compotes, nuts, and bread slices. Very yummy. My boyfriend had two whiskeys straight up, and we sat at the bar and just chatted for awhile. We were never pressured to order more or leave. I can't wait to come back for dinner next time we are in Sonoma. :) read more

YUM! That's all I can say! I had the risotto which was cooked PERFECTLY! That says a lot. You can really judge a restaurant by their risotto. My hubby had the burger. Both wonderful. A full bar. The waitress was wonderful. The atmosphere was modern and open. People may say it's pricey, but to me you get what you pay for! I will definitely be back! read more

The apps we had were really good. We had a plate of three of the charcuterie items: ham rillette, duck pastrami, and pork terrine. All three were excellent, each accompanied by a little sompfin' sompfin': red cabbage with the ham, sauerkraut with the duck and grainy mustard with the pork. We had the truffle fries also and they were really good. They are expensive but the portion is huge, enough for 3 to share. The entrees we had were not as good. We ordered a couple of pizzas. I don't like their crust at all. it wasn't crispy and wasn't cooked enough in the middle, it was really doughy. The toppings were OK but nothing great. Service was OK. Our server was helpful and friendly. There was one buser guy that was creepy scary though, he kept shaking his head and flashing an angry look any time someone asked him something. On the really down side one of us found a little friend swimming in our drink almost at the end of the meal. It wasn't the kind of friend that could have flown in there during the meal so it must have been there all along. Stuff happens, cleanliness seemed very good otherwise, so I was willing to give them a pass on that one. read more

Excellent. California farm to table freshness mixed with a fun and open restaurant that deserves more praise than it gets. This place is really a gem. Everything we ate was seasonal, cooked perfectly, executed with a lot of elegance and at affordable prices. My wife and I will be back over and over. Located right on the square, the attention to detail, the quality of ingredients, the exceptional service, it all adds up to a great dining experience. We came here based on a winery recommendation and are very happy we did! Great atmosphere, attentive servce, and yummy food. My favorite was definitely the mushroom flatbread. I only wish we had been a bit hungrier and able to order more food (a bit full from the wine tastings...). We'll definitely be back on our next trip to Sonoma. read more

All show and no substance. Everything looked as if they wanted to be on top chef, but didn't spend any time on the flavor. The heirloom tomato salad was swimming in dressing and th lamb we had to send back because it came out well done (requested medium rare). Even the desserts (although pretty) were lacking in interesting and thought out flavors. This restaurant felt like a trophy wife, pretty on the outside but has nothing interesting to say. If you want to sit outside and have a drink, this place is great. But do not go there for the food. It feels like an amatuer trying to cook upscale food. However I will say the service was fantastic! I love EDK!! The food is amazing especially the truffle fries. If you are new to EDK, you need to try them. They are literally to die for. The servers are nice and they get what you need. I love the feeling of EDK. It's open feeling but sometimes gets cramped when there are lots of people. I love the outdoor patio it's very nice in the spring and summer. We recently had dinner here. We had the king mushroom appetizer which was really good. We also enjoyed a couple of salads. Entrees were a special short ribs, salmon and the carbonara. We all loved our food. We shared two desserts which were interesting flavor combinations which we were skeptical about but ended up really enjoying them. And they also have fun flavored cocktails.
