I have been going there for awhile now always called it in the last few times my wife and myself have eatin their food it has been terrible the burittos are very greasy. I used to be a big fan of el famous burrito, it was close to my house and was some of the best Tex-Mex food you can find, but the past couple years I have had such horrible experiences I don't know if I'll go back. First their prices online did not match what I was charged ordering on there site when I came to the store and realized that I was being over charged I was just told "the menu prices were outdated " and was over charged $12 and wouldn't be given a refund. After that I didn't order for a long time until one day I was craving for their carne asada ( if you do eat here it's their best meat) I called and asked if I can order an hour before close and they were happy to take my order I get there 15 minutes before they close and the cashier was leaving saying they closed. I went to el famous one more time because a friend wanted to eat there still more expensive then most taquerias it doesn't taste authentic which is why I say it taste more like Tex-mex. The only things I give just a little praise too is the cashier male who is usually there is super nice, and their carne asada is actually top notch those two reasons saved this restaurant from getting a one read more

It's late at night and I'm starving to death after drinking way too much. Friend: "You ready to order yet?" Drunk me: "What's this place called again?" Friend: "I told you like three times, 'El Famous Burrito.'" Drunk me: "What should I get?" Friend: "The burrito." Drunk me: "I wanna..get me the chile rellano." Apparently the food was delivered at some point and I ate most of it before passing out. What I do remember was me taking a photo of the chile relleno for my beloved Yelp and thinking that I had just taken the most artistic photo ever. Seriously, I thought it was going to be on the cover of Nat Geo. Until I looked at it the next day and busted out laughing. But four stars because I really enjoyed my terrible looking meal and also because I remember freaking out with excitement when I saw that they gave me several corn tortillas and fresh limes with my meal. Not sure if I was supposed to eat my chile relleno like a giant taco, but just that feeling of giddiness over tortillas made drunk me really like this place. I hate giving restaurants negative reviews, but I felt robbed after ordering from here. I paid almost $20 for a Steak Burrito. I don't mind paying if I'm getting ANY kind of quality in return... but you can't serve steak like that to paying customers. I wouldn't have given it to my dog honestly. They couldn't even get sour cream or cilantro right, the cilantro was soggy and tasted like it had been marinated in diesel fuel. The sour cream was literally sour, that's not a compliment. Maybe next time I'll try the chicken burrito? Uhhh nahh, there won't be a next time. Next time I'd go to Taco Bell before this place, way higher quality (that's saying something). The prices are fair just like any other Mexican Restaurant, BUT they have $1 taco special on Tuesday and Thursday! One of the reasons I continue to come back! They may have been a little better than the ones I had at Los Fernandez on North Ave., but not by much. The restaurant was clean and busy. Not a bad place to get some Mexican food. So when I heard some friends talking about this place, I knew I had to come. A Mexican place that does quick service at an affordable price: count me in! I've only been here twice and I've only ordered the same thing ... twice, but I definitely love it. I order the steak taco dinner and it's amazing. The steak is super flavorful and delicious. The beans are good, the rice is okay. But together, they make for a very filling lunch. If you're in the area, you definitely should stop in. I'm in line waiting for my torta. The gentleman in from of me was waiting for napkins as they are not accessible to customers. The so-called Cook saw us waiting and saw he needed napkins after he asked for them the woman in the phone was busy he finally walked over disgusted shaking his head and him some napkins. I then asked the guy to cut my torta in half and he says here here's a plastic knife you need to do it. Then I go back up asking for hot sauce and napkins and he walked over again shaking his head and slammed it down on the counter in a soft but rude way. The steak taco meat is full of grizzle and dried out fat. And I'm in this food business myself and obviously I wanted something quick to eat as I was going to an appointment and I will tell you it made me realize how much better that I am in this business by being good with customers and being respectful and if this owner ever read this I'd be happy to give them some consultation just to help him before his business closes up. I can't think of anyplace that is more harmful to my health than El Famous. But I can't think of a place that I would rather have Mexican take out. The Burritos are the size of a lap top. And if you decide to get the extra meat, you are talking the size of a bowling ball. The steak that is used in their Burritos are season wonderfully and they do not skimp on the meat. The ingredients are all fresh and the hot sauce is to die for. I work just west of O'Hare. Other than El Famous, I'm in restaurant hell. So El Famous has saved me from endless trips to Wendy's and Subway. I try to limit myself to one visit a month. More than that would lead to a grabber (Heart attack) for certain. Two words.... Horse shit. Thank you guys for making a burrito that had old, burnt crunchy meat in it that was sooooooo salty it probably could have been left out for days and not rotted because the salt was preserving it! Also I really appreciate the red and green sauce that was really similar to watered down tomato mush. OH! And the utensils were AMAZING! Stopped in here on a Tuesday after my niece's graduation. We hadn't eaten dinner, it was late and we were passing by on the way home. And -- tacos are only $1.25 each on Tuesdays! SCORE!!! I have always drove past El Famous Burrito, and never thought to stop ... and for some stupid reason, I would always choose Taco Bell. After doing a quick search through Yelp, I had stumbled on El Famous Burrito, and thought I would give it a shot for lunch. Entering the establishment, I couldn't help but notice the extremely unique and interesting decor. I have to say, it is one of the most interesting places I have ever been in. A lot of colors surround the small, cute little dining area. The menu boards are all over the walls, so it's easy to pick something out quick. Everything is authentic Mexican, down to the lovely people working. The lady at the counter was very nice and patient with me. I decided to get a ground beef taco salad and a steak taco. They don't believe in plates or containers for take out! My taco salad was wrapped in foil and put in a bag. Upon opening my salad, I noticed there was A LOT of meat. And I mean a lot. 90% of the salad was beef and what I believe is refried beans. It wasn't bad, but I definitely would have liked some more salad with my taco SALAD. Don't get me wrong the whole 5 peices of lettuce were great, but it was a little too much for me. The shell was crispy and delectable. I also had to add sour cream to mine, because I didn't get any topping dressing other than hot sauce. The steak taco on the other hand was unbelievably amazing. Lots of steak strips loaded with lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes on a homemade tortilla shell. It doesn't come with any sour cream, but it doesn't need it. The taste is indescribable, and at the price, it's way worth it! I am definitely going to be back at El Famous Burrito, but I am staying away from salads and sticking to steak. My co-workers and I found this really cool restaurant on our way out of the Chicago area. Good prices for the quantity of food you get, a seemingly yummy selection, and the corn chips are cooked in-house. Even the sales were a great deal. I had a meal that included a beef burrito, french fries (!), and my choice of any R/C cola product. That's right, not Coke, not Pepsi, but R/C. The burrito was huge, brimming over with tasty roast beef. The fries were crispy and quite good, and R/C cola is a nice novelty. My boss brought chips and salsa over and the salsa was pretty good. I did not get to try anything else on my visit, but I really dug this place. The building is an old Pizza Hut and the interior reminds me a great deal of the previous tenants. They didn't change much in the dining area at all, the only non-Hut part of the restaurant is the front counter, which is surrounded by a huge menu board. I thought the place was pretty charming, and if for some reason I find myself nearby again, I'll gladly pop my head in for another good beef burrito. read more
