Chicken Nachos with Meat

I used to be a big fan of el famous burrito, it was close to my house and was some of the best Tex-Mex food you can find, but the past couple years I have had such horrible experiences I don't know if I'll go back. First their prices online did not match what I was charged ordering on there site when I came to the store and realized that I was being over charged I was just told "the menu prices were outdated " and was over charged $12 and wouldn't be given a refund. After that I didn't order for a long time until one day I was craving for their carne asada ( if you do eat here it's their best meat) I called and asked if I can order an hour before close and they were happy to take my order I get there 15 minutes before they close and the cashier was leaving saying they closed. I went to el famous one more time because a friend wanted to eat there still more expensive then most taquerias it doesn't taste authentic which is why I say it taste more like Tex-mex. The only things I give just a little praise too is the cashier male who is usually there is super nice, and their carne asada is actually top notch those two reasons saved this restaurant from getting a one

I was pleasantly surprised by their food. I'm not in Elmhurst a lot, but would definitely go back.

This is what happens when you drink and try to take an artistic photo of your food-chile relleno
Lily F.

It's late at night and I'm starving to death after drinking way too much. Friend: "You ready to order yet?" Drunk me: "What's this place called again?" Friend: "I told you like three times, 'El Famous Burrito.'" Drunk me: "What should I get?" Friend: "The burrito." Drunk me: "I wanna..get me the chile rellano." Apparently the food was delivered at some point and I ate most of it before passing out. What I do remember was me taking a photo of the chile relleno for my beloved Yelp and thinking that I had just taken the most artistic photo ever. Seriously, I thought it was going to be on the cover of Nat Geo. Until I looked at it the next day and busted out laughing. But four stars because I really enjoyed my terrible looking meal and also because I remember freaking out with excitement when I saw that they gave me several corn tortillas and fresh limes with my meal. Not sure if I was supposed to eat my chile relleno like a giant taco, but just that feeling of giddiness over tortillas made drunk me really like this place. So thanks for being part of my drunken night and becoming another great memory, El Famous Burrito. Cheers!

Salsa bottle

Went in here for a quick taco, their food is great however service is awful, all salsa bottles were taken so I asked the guy for a cup of red salsa and he said it would be extra or I had to wait for a bottle to become free LOL what a scam! They try to nickel and dime you for everything here.

I work nearby and decided to have two steak tacos for lunch. The employees are very friendly and make it a pleasant experience. I was a bit skeptical when I passed by this restaurant but I'm glad I found this gem. They added lime and picked carrots/jalapeños without me asking! Very delicious!

Also had the El Elote and these were not exactly my favorite version. There was a mix of several flavors. My main lunch was the Pescado Frito which I decided could actually be the best fish tacos I've ever had. Would definitely return for this dish. Needed a dessert so tried the Date Pudding. Expecting something resembling a pudding, was a little surprised that the dish was really a cake. Very tasty and definitely needed the ice cream on the side. Overall, was pleased with the offerings. Cost might have been a little steep for a casual lunch, but then again I did order several items.

The restaurant is medium sized, clean, and spacious, with a wide variety of menu options. They offer brunch, lunch, dinner, desserts, and happy hour which is a nice bonus. I do wish the happy hour details were listed on a menu or somewhere visible. Our server, who was new, let us know that margaritas were half of and only select tacos were $2 for taco Tuesday. We each ordered a margarita, which was deliciously only $6 each. For starters, we shared the "Los Tres Diaz" platter, which includes guacamole, elote and fish ceviche served with chips. Everything was fresh and flavorful and great way for two people to sample a bit of everything. As for the tacos, the happy hours election wasn't as appealing so I opted for the shrimp tacos. Instead, the order came with three good size tacos and although the rice and beans are available as an add-on they don't come with a meal. The highlight was definitely the mango pineapple, pico de gallo, and added so much flavor. Overall, we had a great experience. The food was delicious. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was relaxed. I'd definitely come back.

They have karaoke every first Saturday of the month til midnight, and it was busy. The waiters at the restaurant almost didn't let us in because we were with our infant baby and the only side that was open was the bar and karaoke area that has slot machines. But luckily, one of the karaoke hosts recognized us and we were able to dine in and I was able to perform once! Our baby doesn't mind loud noises and fell asleep an hour into being there despite the hustle and bustle of Saturday night karaoke. While I was excited to perform and sing, I made sure to bring my appetite! When we arrived, we sat in the far back near the restrooms. It took a while for someone to take our order, so we flagged down one of the busboys, and he was wonderful. He brought us two orders of chips and salsa as we waited for the bartender to take our order. My husband and I shared the Campana Combo plate which was higher in price on the menu compared to their online website. The Campana Combo plate included a beef taco, beef chile relleno, chicken enchilada, and bistec a la mexicana with a side of rice and beans. We also ordered a sopapia as dessert! My husband is Mexican and he's told me about sopapias as an inside joke we have, but we didn't know they existed! It was a light, fluffy puff pastry drizzled with honey and came with a side of strawberries and jam. My husband also ordered two modelos with limes and I had a coke with two refills in between singing. The coke was a little flat. Altogether, the price was $45.37 for our meal. I am glad they were willing to let us dine in despite bringing our baby along. He's gotta come everywhere with us - we've got no other choices! Karaoke was very fun. Online it says every first Saturday of the month from 9-12am, so next time I'll try to come earlier! The karaoke spots fill up fast, and you've got to tell the host/DJ your song and name to get in line. One of the waiters, Peter, was a regular singer and he was wonderful to listen to! It was some of the tastiest Mexican food I've tried. Next time, I would love for the chile relleno to come on the side without sauce so I could taste the crispiness of the batter! Ambiance had some .....interesting characters who came out to watch, the singers were fun and sang a variety of music genres, and the crowd was supportive... lots of high fives and claps were given to me after I performed. We would definitely come back for the food and the karaoke, but they gotta keep letting us bring our baby, haha!
