El forestero is consistently great, especially for being open 24/7. Not very many Mexican restaurants offer shredded beef, let alone such perfectly prepared shredded beef. Their shredded chicken every bit just as succulent. Their street tacos are perfection. The perfect amount of pico, a perfect amount of onion in said pico, and although juicy, the structural integrity of the corn tortilla is never compromised; it won't split and fall apart on you. Their California Burrito is among the best I've ever tasted. It's size is well worth the money. Their salsa verde is my favorite and I'm sure to get plenty every time I'm there. I very rarely receive a less than excellent churro. The cinnamon sugar is abundant, doesn't feel overly fried, dry or old. Nearly every time I get home and take my first bite, I close my eyes to fully enjoy it. My only complaint is that it can be a bit on the pricey side, but considering that this is my neighborhood Mexican restaurant, I don't mind giving them more than I would most places. Used to be the best El Forastero in Sac, but has really cheapened up in the last 3-4 months. Portions are all smaller than they used to be, the good thick shredded cheese is gone, and guac is no longer very good. I wish you had raised your prices a bit over COVID instead of sacrificing quality. Would gladly pay $1 more for the food and portions you used to serve, used to eat here twice a week. Probably won't come back as often as I used to. I also find hair in my food here more often than I'm comfortable with. I usually order the Chile Relleno burrito that is filled with it's Chile Relleno rice, enchilada sauce and cheese very tasty Their menu offers plate combos , breakfast burritos , nachos , tacos , tostadas and another favorite carne aside fries so good. I've been coming to this location for about seven years with my dad and we get it almost every night. Our top and pretty much only picks are the carne asada fries, carne asada super burritos, and sometimes I feel like getting a burrito with just beans, cheese, and rice. Their red salsa has a kick for sure and is really yummy. The green salsa is good too but it's just average. Be very clear when ordering through the drive through because they can be prone to mix ups but if you go back they will always make any mistakes right for you. What's open on a Thursday at 3 AM? El Forastero. I pulled an all-nighter for an exam the night before and after sleeping a good 19 hours I woke up at 3 AM wanting nothing but Mexican food. Went through the drive thru and I ordered a carne asada torta with everything on it as well as a free side of chips. My total was about $7 and some change but after looking at my receipt I was charged extra for paying with a card. I've never been to El Forastero before, but I wish the employee would've told me they charge an extra fee as I was handing my card to him. I would have paid with cash if I would have known. The torta was wrapped nicely and sliced. The carne asada was eh, the cheese barely melted, and torta needed some spice. The chips were stale. I've been to this place many times. I want to say that I do really like the food compared to other establishments that are similar. As I'm writing this particular review I got food from them around dinner time. I have to say asking for hot sauce is a really weird and awkward situation. But it mainly happens with the evening staff. I ordered a bunch of food for three people and the cashier asked if I wanted hot sauce, I said yes. The food is OK, but the wait time is insane and the service is.. Not the best to say the least. When ordering the employees rush you and often times won't provide you the total, they often miss items in the order but rush you out to go and of course because the wait time is already excruciating, you don't want to hold up the line longer even though you just paid an arm and a leg for a burrito and sides. I've come across a few really good experiences here, but for the most part I end up kind of upset with this place, but it's the only 24 hour food near me, so when I clock out at 11pm this is the only option. I'd love to see more consistency in the quality of service here. There's a lot of potential for growth if they exercised more patience with customers, and applied more attention to detail with the orders. read more

This place is definitely not the place to go for carne asada fries. First off it was a long wait in the Drive-Thru about a 20-minute wait with only three cars ahead of me. disclaimer: I'm from san diego. my standards for alta california mexican food are quite high. i frequent this joint quite often, perhaps because I live close by. on my first visit, I was skeptical (as I tend to be the further away from tijuana I am), but was calmed when that initial carne asada burrito was filled with juicy carne, tangy guacamole and a reasonable amount of pico de gallo. their salsas are also wonderful. LITERALLY just ordered from here & ordered a Steak Breakfast Burrito in which it randomly came with fries and that wasn't listed, it was supposed to have eggs and potatoes that wasn't in there. This is my favorite place for Mexican food. Service is quick and the quality is consistently good. However, sometimes the burritos are under-filled. I usually get the lengua super burrito, and that's enough for two meals. Other good options here are carne asada tacos, carne asada super burrito, carne asada fries or nachos, birria tacos, and California burrito. YEEESSSS!! I think I finally found a favorite Mexican spot!! I got their Super Nachos and two mini tacos. Everything was sooo delicious and their salsas were amazing. I can't handle too many spicy thing, but I was able to handle their red and green salsa. Their red salsa has to be my favorite. As for the super nachos, they were HUGE!! Next time I go I won't order the mini tacos because the super nachos were sufficient enough. Fortunately, you are allowed to switch the meat on the super nachos. El Forastero never disappoints when it comes to breakfast burritos. I walked in this past Saturday morning and ordered the Super Breakfast Burrito (SBB) for $8.95. The SBB comes with bacon, ham, chorizo, potatoes, eggs and cheese. They make it when you order it so its nice and fresh and warm. I couldn't believe how big this burrito was but I took on the challenge and finished it. The SBB was really flavorful and good, very tasty. They also have complimentary chips and salsa bar. The red salsa is my favorite spicy and full of flavor. I can drink it with my burrito. I have never had anything but breakfast burritos here so my review is solely based on that. read more

So the last few times that I've come to them for Taco Teusday I have always asked the cash register people if we could get 3-4 bags of chips. Its only right since I am spending money at your establishment. So why not give me 3-4 bags of chips if I'm asking for them. Its never been a problem until today. However, you can't complain that their portion sizes are too small.
