Quick stop for some soup and this stop did not disappoint! Very clean and very authentic traditional Mexican. Located just off Daniel Island on Clement's Ferry. I will be back!

My boyfriend and I were hungry when we got to town yesterday. I was craving Mexican food and did some searching for a restaurant not too far from our hotel. I came across this place and we decided to give it a try. When we parked, there weren't many cars around. As you'll find by the end of my review, this will come as a mystifying surprise. Maybe it was the day and time we came in that was less busy, but El Gallo Bar & Grill deserves to be popping with business! We opened the doors and stepped inside what had a "hole-in-the-wall" feel. Since the weather was nice, we asked if we could be seated on the outdoor patio. The host led us out back, which had bright pops of color all around. There was a very cute, fun vibe. I will say, since we were the only ones outside, it was a nice private dining experience. Our polite host told us our waitress would be with us in just a moment. He ended up bringing our chips and salsa to us and then our server arrived: Paola. Just like the host, she was very friendly and kind. I ordered 3 fried shrimp tacos (Mexican style), which came with a side of refried beans and rice. My boyfriend got 3 octopus tacos, also Mexican style, with a side beans and rice. The tacos looked gorgeous and tasted authentic and absolutely delicious! My shrimp was perfectly crispy and juicy. I was blown away by the explosion of flavor. They were very filling. If you like spice, I'd suggest asking for a side of their habanero hot sauce. It packs a ton of heat with great flavor. This place is a hidden(?) gem. If we lived here, we would be weekly patrons. Hopefully we can visit again soon and come back for more!

Have been meaning to check this place out for a few weeks now as we've heard great things about it. Love Mexican food like many but authentic is key. I always rate Mexican restaurants on the little things too like how authentic and good their homemade salsa and pico de gallo is so let me tell you that this place delivers. I ordered the shrimp, fish and chicken tacos Mexican style with cilantro lime and onion. Wow, bloody wow. Their house made hot sauce just took them to another level. It's always great when you leave a restaurant and it feels like you have a circus of flavours going on in your mouth. This is one of them The prices are incredibly low, the drink selections abundant and the service was top notch. You also know they are good when you see the counter full of take out orders. Highly recommend. The owner Horacio definitely knows what he is doing. 3 Thumbs Up and 5 Stars from us.

Ordered the steak taco and burrito deluxe as soon as the store opened. Everything tasted old and cold. Food lacked flavor and the rice was mushy. I will not be coming here again.

Place has great authentic food. I really enjoy everything I've ever had here. Employees make you feel welcome and they are attentive. Foods great and drinks are flowing. This place never disappoints. Parking is never an issue. Prices are reasonable.

Upon arrival we were enthusiastically greeted and seated right away. The staff was fantastic throughout the evening. Very friendly, helpful and informative with the food and suggestions. I am a sucker for decor in a restaurant and this one did not disappoint. I know, I know, it's about the food - I'm getting to that... The decor has prints/paintings from Mexico on the walls and the wall seats are lined with pillows adorning Sugar Skulls. The women's bathroom is beautiful, shiny crystal accents an almost every wall. I will not post the pic from the bathroom, come see for yourself #love Now for the food! Our menu was as listed: Beer, Paloma and Malibu/coke Look at this Paloma! It tasted as delicious as it looks :) Steak and chicken fajitas - came out sizzling hot as it should, this dish did not disappoint. "All Fajitas are cooked With Sauteed Onion, Bell Pepper, Tomatoes and served with Mexican Rice, and your choice of Refried Beans, Black Beans, Or Charro Beans. Lettuce, Pico De Gallo, Sour Cream, and Guacamole. Choice of Flour Tortilla, or Corn Tortilla" Enchiladas de Mole - if Mole is on the menu I usually order it. I'll be honest this was not my favorite Mole dish I have ever ordered and it wasn't as hot as I feel it should have come to the table. Maybe it sat while my family's orders were being filled? It was good however, only 1 came home to be eaten as a midnight snack for one of us. "Three Shredded Chicken Enchiladas topped with Salsa De Mole and Shredded Cheese. Served with Rice and your choice of Refried Beans, Black Beans, Or Charro Beans" Enchiladas Super Rancheras - a great way to try different flavors! I did not try this one but my family said each were great - only the cheese one fell flat, literally, it was like a cheese crepe. "Five different Enchiladas one Beef, one Chicken, one Beans, one Shredded Beef and one Cheese topped with Cheese, Salsa Enchilada, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Sour Cream and Salsa Ranchera" I hope this helps - we will be back for drinks, food and friendly staff! Just my favorite kind of authentic, casual, and fun local Mexican spot. Great music, huge affordable menu, comfy booths, festive murals and friendly service. Large shareable portions. And the margarita was freshly shaken and yummy. Felt like I was back in Cancun. We will be regulars here I think. DoorDash option too!

Opened during the summer of 2021, everything was very good, especially the 58 ounce frozen margarita we shared as a table. The booths are extra deep.

    Chicken tacos and carnitas!
    Rachyl D.

Prices are good and the staff are super friendly! Some items weren't my favorite, but the tacos were really authentic and good! Definitely will be trying more options.

    Taco salad and margarita!

Literally the most courteous and helpful staff I've seen in a while. The food was delicious - I had the taco salad. In college, I cooked in a SW restaurant, and I can tell when people care about their food - this place cares about their food!

Although I've only ordered delivery, the food is always fresh and flavorful. I'm sure the experience would be the same when dining in.

We were the only folks in the restaurant and service was quick and personable. Staff speak English and Spanish so it made ordering for me and my wife easy. We both ordered the same dish which was the carne asada. It was top notch good and a decent serving. The only suggestion I would make is adding a dollop of guacamole. I did use the bathroom and it was cleaner and nicer than I expected. The atmosphere was nice as well. The other staff were friendly and the aesthetics really make this place feel a bit more upscale. Parking was easy for us, but the parking lot is a little small. Now that we are locals we are sure to return for some great food.

Where to begin? I've had my eye on this place for a minute. Its location is humble--next door to a…read morenon-descript motel--but I was curious. When I started to notice customers, I decided it was time to give it a shot. My first impression walking in was favorable. The decor is homey but very cheerful with lots of flowers overhead and on the table. When we arrived, we were allowed to choose our seat whilst the server grabbed us menus. Since we were down for a light lunch, we decided to share chips and salsa and a bistec a la Mexicana. The order hit the table fast. First was a sauce trio of green, red, and spicy. All were delicious. All had a real kick--be prepared! When the chips and salsa arrived, I knew we were really in for a treat. Instead of the usual pico with tom juice, this was a complex red sauce filled with avocado and fresh cilantro. The avocado was a perfect cooling element to the spicy sauce. Really delicious! The chips were not only freshly fried, but clearly from fresh corn tortillas. I took advantage of the chips to sample the sauce trio--really good but the kick was real! When the entree arrived, they'd very courteously split it onto two plates for us. When I tell you the servings were generous, it's a gross understatement! In addition to the well-seasoned steak cooked with tomato, onion, and jalapeños; there were black beans topped with cotija cheese and Mexican rice. Finally, there were fresh, hot tortillas. Man, when I say they were hot, the steam exploded out when I opened the tortillero! I'm running out of words here for how hot, fresh, well seasoned, well prepared, and how original literally everything was. As if that wasn't enough, the server was kind and gracious and very attentive. I'll be back...I gotta try their molcajete...
