First time at this place and it couldn't have gone better. It was pretty quiet in the bar, but the restaurant was hosting a 50th Birthday party. Service was fantastic! Edwin, the bartender was extremely attentive, engaging and very good at mixing drinks and offering recommendations. The crispy carnitas in mole sauce that he recommended was sooo delicious! The pineapple margarita that he made was smooth, not too sweet and went down easy. But the true star of the evening was an after dinner shot of Dos Artes tequila. What a wonderfully complex tequila with a sweet vanilla caramel finish. It was equivalent to a port wine after a good Italian meal. Showed up at 12 and ordered cheese enchiladas with green sauce. The enchiladas look awful! Soggy tortilla with cheese that isn't even melted. Did they even get cooked? Looks like rolled up tortillas with cold cheese then drenched in sauce. They taste as awful as they look. This is the second time I have tried this place and last time was equally bad. Won't be back. Personally love it here. Quality, comforting Mexican food. It's a restaurant, but there's a drive through and they really get food out fast. Chips come with the burritos which is what I usually get but the tacos are equally delicious. I really can't complain about the establishment.. the ladies in there can be a bit snappy but if you have been around you get used to it. read more

This place was good before but the lack of help and customer server has gone down for quite a while now. I called in to report I have a bad margarita and see if they could fix it or make a new one. The margarita mix was to sour and it tasted like warm milk. My drinks were a tamarindo and strawberry margarita but both look good but didn't taste good. Both margaritas where so bad I wouldn't serve this to my enemies. I called for them to see what they can do and each time they say "the manager is not here" " we will take your number and he will call you" a 1 days past and I call and they still told me to wait. I spend 25 bucks for 2 drinks and a few calls for them not to fix them. I am not hating the place but I gave them chances. I hope they can change or take step back and see all their bad reviews that are honest and go from there to be a better restaurant one day. read more

I was in town and stopped in the drive through line for a burrito and margarita. The burrito was huge and easily enough to split or save for later and the margarita was delicious. They had several options of flavors for the margaritas but I picked pomegranate, which was lovely. Fresh and served with or without ice in a mason jar. Spent $21 and feel like it was 100% worth it. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a great place to get a burrito in Windsor. read more

The first and last time I eat in this place. I was served MOLDY Chicken! I notified The waitress and she took it to the back to show it to the owner. The owner of the place didn't have the decency to talk to me so he sent the waitress to talk to me and blamed it on the knife that it was "too new" that they didn't know why the knife was doing that. Going in, the drinks were good. Unfortunately, I asked for no avacado and no guacamole on my food. The waiter said it doesn't come with it. When the food came, it came with guacamole. I ordered their chicken, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber salad, and the waitress noted that I wanted the cucumbers left out. (I hate the taste and the taste of anything they touch.) The salad was large: lots of avocado, plenty of fried chicken pieces, a few small tomato pieces, the usually good quantity of diced lettuce--well mixed with cucumber slices! Well they weren't diced, so I could sort them out. This seems to be a common problem at El Gallo from the other reviews I've read. The kitchen staff does as it pleases. Quantity was more than sufficient, but service was slow, and the crowd (at 1:00 PM) was noisy. This was true even though we were sitting in their semi-outdoor area. Prices aren't posted and we didn't have a menu, so the substantial cost was a surprise when the bill came. Still what I could rescue of my salad was good. It's OK, but I live in Santa Rosa and can do better here. read more

My family and I used to be regulars here. This used to be one of our favorite Mexican food restaurants in the area but after ownership changed the quality has gone down dramatically and the prices have skyrocketed. They charged us $7 for a lemonade for our daughter and wanted $6 for a SIDE of mole. Are you kidding me?! Extremely bummed. There is something so special about a drive thru margarita but El Gallo Negro makes an out of this world jalapeño margarita that I will 10/10 recommend to anyone who will listen. Party of two, came around 630 tonight. The manager served us and took our order but not before he was trying to shove margaritas or anything with alcohol down our throats. I'm pregnant and it made me extremely uncomfortable. I ordered the fajitas and my boyfriend ordered a super burrito. He said his burrito was good but my steak fajitas were bland. In the middle of me eating the manager randomly comes over and brings us togo boxes. I felt rushed but shrugged it off and continued to eat my food. My boyfriend had just finished his burrito and I was still eating when the manager then came over and gave us our bill. Again, I was made to feel rushed and as a former server of five+ years, it was extremely irritating to me. The manager then proceeds to pace around the table next to us multiple times trying not to be obvious as he checks to see if we had paid yet. Meanwhile I am STILL eating. I'm finally over it and put the rest of my food in one of the boxes and before I can close the lid he comes back over asking if we had paid yet. I let him know we had barely just finished and we are not ready. We paid the tab and shamelessly left him a $2 tip which is still more than we should have. I have never been made to feel more uncomfortable in any of my dining experiences. They seated multiple parties while we were eating so us being rushed had nothing to do with the restaurant needing to close, did he think we were going to dine and ditch or something?? Either way I will never come back to this establishment the manager as rude in his actions and completely ruined our entire experience tonight when my boyfriend and I have had hectic schedules the past few weeks and we were looking forward to a nice dinner together. read more

They have the best margs north of the border (when Edwin is bartending). And a large covered outdoor patio complete with a central fountain lends to the relaxed fun vibe. Oh, and the prices are reasonable too. There's even a drive thru if you are in need of a margarita/taco night but you don't feel like dining out. read more

Service was the worst I have ever experienced. Im sorry to report that unless you look caucasian or rich you will receive poor service. The waiter rushed us to order because of a "big table with a lot of people". Then I am very clear about my order because I have a gluten allergy and when it's brought out its wrong. After that the waiter went to every other table but ours. I noticed him seating people bringing out their drinks and waters. For 15 minutes we were ignored. We never even got water. He kept checking on every table but ours while I sat there with my wrong order trying to get attention. He never looked or stopped by and kept helping all the other customers. My boyfriend had to get up and ask another waiter for help for him to finally come by. At that point I was beyond disappointed and wanted to leave. When I told him about the poor service he tried to blame it on the busser and took zero accountability. I was watching the busser and he was doing a great job, I thought it was so horrible he would try to blame his poor customer service on a busser. My order for my daughter was wrong three times in a row. Went through the drive thru and ordered a kid burrito with rice and beans - no cheese. Her burrito was filled with beans and cheese and sour cream, I called and asked if I could get it remade. Went back and they filled the burrito with cheese, the only item it wasn't supposed to have. Seems like this was on purpose as we were very clear (but also very polite) I won't be returning. I refuse to go back a fourth time to try and get a burrito remade. We went last night for dinner.. We had terrible service from our waitress. Our waitress was AWFUL and rude. She never came to check if we needed anything. She walked by frequently but never stopped and would turn her head. We flagged someone else down for drink refills. We had to go inside to ask for silverware and to get straws for the kids beverages. We had to flag her down to get the bill. That was the only time she returned quickly was when we paid so that she could go back inside and sit on her phone. The food was bland and margaritas seemed to have no alcohol in them. Food was also not prepared the way some had asked. We waited 20 minutes for drinks to come out from the bar. I called after we left and asked to speak to a manager. The girl I spoke with on the phone said the manager had left and said she'd have her give me a call. They never called. She did not seem phased when I said I was calling about the awful service we received. I wouldn't reccomend this place to to anyone I know nor will we return after this crappy experience.
