They have literally NEVER gotten my order right. Ever. Even when the menu does not list cheese as an ingredient and you ask 3 times that they NOT put cheese on something, you can look forward to cheese being everywhere. Every time. Ok, so I've been searching for Birria Tacos for months!!!! I am from Austin, Texas and in town for business! I looked up tacos and El Jefe was the first to arise! As soon as I opened the menu boom BIRRIA tacos!!! Let me tell you right now they were F***ing amazing! Corn tortilla , melty cheese , Birria, onions & cilantro! The juice to dip it in was running down my arms! Btw don't forget there house made habanero salsa for just the right kick! The rice was fantastic as i took the rest of the marinade and dumped it on all over!! To finish it off a deliciously cooked cinnamon and sugar CHURRO!!! Well done guys!! Birria tacos are all the rave and I knew I had to try me some. El Jefe Tacos are my daughters favorite place to get them so off we went to get some! I ordered 2 birria tacos. They were corn tortillas filled with shredded beef and cheese and melted together and came with the birria au jus. They were great but was lacking in spice, but def see the appeal of dipping your tacos! I have ordered other items since the birria tacos and let me tell you, you can't go wrong with what ever you order. Staff is always friendly and ready to help. read more

I ordered an Egg and potato ONLY burrito and they put cheese and some sort of meat in it. Like really check out the image after I opened the burrito. The tortilla was not that good either . I ordered the Korean fried chicken, and it was burnt beyond recognition and smelt burnt & tasted bitter. None of the sauces that I ordered were included. When I realized my order was burnt, I returned to the restaurant because it had to be a mistake and they told me that the food was not burnt despite it smelling charred and looking charred and they told me that it was the marinade that made the chicken look black. I looked at their Instagram to compare my meal to what they served me to see if that was true and none of the chicken on their official Instagram is black or charred. The food smelt bitter and burnt and while the employees did refund my money, they acted like the chicken was completely fine, even though it was clearly burnt. You can judge for yourself based on this image if the food was burnt or not. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I'd also add that I've had Korean fried chicken from many places throughout the valley, and none of them tasted like this or had this "charred marinade". This place serves a variety of different cuisines from all over the world including Mexican, Korean and Japanese... and proves that when you're a jack of all trades, you are a master of none. read more

Unfortunately I ordered through Uber Rats so I could not return the food. $16 burrito came with maybe 4 ounces of filling. So this is a mixed review, place is clean and has a nice ambiance. Staff was friendly and helpful. Service was great and fast..... which could have also been a problem. I ordered the Birria Ramen, came with a taco. This taco was amazing, super flavorful and the meat tender! But when you go to the ramen which had this great meat with tasty broth it was nice until you get to the noodle, I asked prior to ordering and new it was the ramen(maruchan)packaged noodles being used, not a problem love this at home for a quick meal. The problem was this wasn't cooked properly the ramen under the meat still had the shape out of the package so I said alright let's eat the taco and sushi I ordered and let it cook in the broth, didn't help so ate my taco and nigiri then left unsatisfied. My wife and I love Mexican food and this is so close to our house that we order from it pretty regularly. Unfortunately, 9 times out of 10 we are missing items. If we order anything remotely similar to one another, we end up not getting our full order. Nachos specifically, we ordered two separate nachos and only received the fixings for one and got an extra container of chips. This sucks because of the amount of money wasted, like how do I have nachos with no cheese? Something needs to get fixed when it comes to their delivery orders because this happens almost every time we order. We keep hoping the mistake won't happen because when we do get the right food we love it! read more

The staff was unfortunately not inviting and treated me as though I didn't matter even though I was the only one in the restaurant for over an hour. When I asked for recommendations they ignored me and proceeded to cash me out instead. Maybe they had a busy lunch rush so I get it. Then the food unfortunately was a tad bland. My overall opinion of this restaurant is that it feels like they have given up, even though there's potential for something brilliant. I was surprised by the amount of 5 star reviews received for this place and with that in mind, maybe we came on a bad day. Atmosphere - drab. We walked inside and it was very low energy. It was unclear whether you seat yourself or wait to be seated because the counter to order is so far away and no one greeted us or gave us direction when we arrived. The girl we ordered from was nice enough, although the staff seemed generally to not want to be there. Wait time - prepared very quickly. We got our food within 10 minutes of ordering it. Food - extremely bland. I think that sushi and tacos is a nice idea in theory, but neither one has been mastered here. Philly roll (normally my fav even when done poorly) was prepared with very low quality ingredients and was somehow extremely salty even with no added soy sauce. The ginger served with it was very soapy and low quality as well. Had a half asada, half pastor burrito bowl. None of the ingredients had any flavor. I couldn't finish it. Drinks - this restaurant was obviously designed to have a bar inside of it. I'm not sure if the liquor license was lost or if they never got one, but it was being used as storage on this visit and contributed to the overall sadness of the joint. Tried it for the first time today. Cashier was friendly and offered recommendations. Went with the bacon, egg, cheese and potato burrito. It took longer than I expected to make as it was not crowded at the time of arrival. It was wrapped well and was still hot when I arrived home. The tortilla was fresh and very full. I have been craving birria tacos all week and I'm so glad I found this place! The place is clean, the workers are really helpful, and the food was great. The cashier helped me decide on whether to get the corn or flour tortillas. She said she grew up in Mexico and would always eat birria tacos with flour tortillas, so her input really helped me decide on getting the flour tortillas instead of the corn ones. One of the employees brought my food out to my table on the patio and even brought a napkin dispenser over. The chips were very fresh and I could tell they make them there. I loved the red salsa! I got a quesabirria, 2 birria tacos, and chips and salsa to share with my friend. I was sooo full that I was barely able to eat my chips, but I don't regret it lol. I ended up taking the chips to go since they were already conveniently served in a to-go container. The consome and the meat were really tasty. The only thing I'll say is that the tacos could've used a little more cilantro, but they were still so good! It's a little strange to compliment a restaurant on their water, but they gave me such a big cup of ice water and it was so good. I don't normally drink that much water like I should, but it was so refreshing that I had to get a refill before I left. I loved everything and would definitely go back next time I come back to Tempe. read more
