I hate having to write a bad review on a local family owned business... but honestly there's no excuse serving someone this empty shell of a taco. It wasn't Taco Tuesday.. I paid full price for everything I purchased today & with the exception of a side bean cup everything was under-portioned . My first visit was wonderful with no issues.. but there's no excuse for the food that was served to me today.The man that waited on me was very nice, no complaints on service whatsoever. This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant in the Hobart/Merrillville area. We picked up from here because our usual spot was closed in between Christmas and New Year's. The prices were amazing. They have horchata. The kids LOVED their kids meals. My enchilada special was fantastic. I'd recommend spending a couple extra bucks and ordering off the main menu so you can get chorizo or lengua as your meats, but our family enjoyed the pork and chicken as well. I live in Chicago, happened to be in Hobart- hungry, following a family event. Stopped in after we noted 4 star reviews on Yelp and were delighted with our choice. Food is fresh, authentic, and reasonably priced. So are the margaritas which were on special for only $3 (on the rocks) or $4 (slushy). Servers were very pleasant, service great. Absolutely Amazing food. I'm a truck driver from Arizona. Specifically a tiny border town. Now, we got great food down there, but this place takes the cake! I rarely do a review on any restaurant, but I could not pass this opportunity up. This past Friday, I came in to order a burrito. I usually do not order burrito with lettuce or tomato, because the lettuce is saggy, limp, and taste bad, so I ask for rice. The waitress stated it would be an up-charge which was no problem. I said I wanted the rice to replace the lettuce and tomato and everything else please put in, with steak. Before I paid, I asked again that there was beans and rice, and they other waitress said yes. Well, I got home and what did I find, no beans to go with the dinner. Plus, there was no rice or beans in the burrito. I hate nothing more when you take home a pickup and not only not get what you asked for, but get lied too. I came back to this restaurant after being given bad service, but once again bad service and very poor service. I will not be back again, any future pickups, please check you food, because no ones word means nothing. I would have had to tear apart the burrito to find the problem. read more

This is a hidden gem in a strip mall on northeast side of Hobart. I've passed it many times. This year we are on a quest to try new places so Friday night in we went! We were def not disappointed! The food is very authentic, good sized portions, and lots of flavor. The waitstaff was friendly and efficient! The sangria was delicious! This was the worse Mexican food! I ordered the Jimador Especial which is supposed to be a combo plate with skirt steak, chicken breast and grilled shrimp. I got a 2 inch piece of beef, it wasn't skirt steak, a slice of breast and 6 grilled shrimp. The rice was soggy. Overall horrible portion size and taste. Will never go there again. They don't even smile, and slam dishes down in the back once people are done eating. El Jimador in Winfield Crown Point has much better service and food is just as good.
