We went right when they opened at 11 AM because we wanted to get a good seat, and surprisingly, the place was already pretty busy. That's usually a good sign, you figure if there are already a lot of people there, the food must be fresh and good. I ordered the carne asada, my son got a quesadilla, and my parents ordered a couple of different things. The location isn't the best. It's around Central and Louisiana, and there are quite a few homeless people in the area. It can definitely feel a little sketchy, but honestly, that's not something I can really hold against the restaurant. The service, however, was a different story this time. Normally the staff is pretty friendly and the restaurant is well run, but this visit they just seemed off. One thing I've noticed before is that once they realize you don't speak Spanish, the way they treat you can sometimes change. And being Mexican but not speaking Spanish shouldn't suddenly mean you get different service. ‍ The food was just okay this time. My carne asada was warm when it came out, and the meat wasn't as tender or juicy as I remember. There just wasn't anything that really stood out. They do give you chips and salsa, plus a little bit of queso, which is nice. I will say the atmosphere is fun and festive. If you're familiar with Latino culture, you'll definitely recognize the vibe here. It's lively and has a lot of character. Would I recommend it? Normally, yes. But based on this particular visit, I'm not sure. Maybe it was just an off day, or maybe something has changed with the management or staff.
