We arrived at 12:30 and there were some diners enjoying their meals outside. We sat inside and it was not busy at all. Service was pleasant and efficient. They have a separate lunch menu. I ordered the lunch burrito with rice and refried beans, $11.95. The serving size was large. The decor is nice with nice Mexican touches and the interior is well maintained and clean. I visited El Mariachi on a beautiful Saturday around 1 PM with two friends, and we chose to sit outside because the weather was perfect. The location is at the corner of a plaza, and there's always plenty of parking available, which is super convenient. The place wasn't busy, so we were quickly seated and greeted. Our waiter, Luis, was attentive and friendly. I ordered my favorite mango margarita, and it was good per usual. This is not my first time here. I noticed they introduced birria tacos to the menu, so I gave them a try. They were good, served with rice and refried beans. The complimentary chips and salsa were also fresh and flavorful. Definitely ask for some picante for that extra kick! One of my friends ordered the loaded nachos, and they looked and tasted yummy. That said, request to dine outdoors was a breeze (pun intended) and the Winter Olympics was on tv. Waiter is Daniel who introduced himself as "Dani." Request of legendary busboy for " no chips" was also granted. "Dani" takes care of all food, drink, and bar delivery service to the table with a smile. He can entice by telling all about Sunday Brunch and Happy Hour which starts at 4 pm. Happy Hour, as I recall and as he hinted, is not to be missed. Chicken Soup, Salad, Lechon Tamale (appetizer portion yet a substantial size) and more is here for your enjoyment. So the thing is that I love nachos and this place gets them right! I've been here twice and each time they were consistent with the layers of cheese and meet and there was a bit of everything in one bite. Not only were the nachos good but the service was pretty good too. Their margaritas are the standard. They serve the traditional chips and salsa to start and the salsa is decent. My husband had their enchiladas with red sauce substituted and he cleaned his plate. This last time we went was on a Friday night and we sat outside. They had an entertainer singing and she could sing! The crowd seemed to enjoy her. I prefer outside seating, which was immediately available, but inside seemed to be the more popular option. After several years of going to "so-called "competitor down the street across from the fashion mall. I decided to try El mariachi. I have not yet been disappointed! I go during lunch and dinner and the service is always tops and the food is always good. I've eaten inside and I've eaten out on the patio in regardless of where I eat. I've always had good service. One thing that really truly impressed me was last Saturday when I was having my meal out on the patio, an early dinner one of the waiters one H approach me he recognized me and he and I talked for a little bit. I was so taken back by the fact that this young man came up to me, remembered me and chatted with me that little extra touch in my view is makes a big difference. so this is my new place of having Mexican food. The so-called competition lost me when they got rid of their employees and started downsizing on their food portions and their quality. I came in with a large group of people and started off with their spicy margaritas which were delicious. They use spicy tequila. I had their Tijuana steak spicy, and it was phenomenal. It had onions, peppers, and jalapeños on top. It was cooked to perfection. The refied beans and rice were good as well. The pico on the side was a nice touch. The service was good, since we were a big party a couple things were missing here and there but they were so accommodating and flexible with getting us the items! My husband, Chuck, and my brother, Raph, went here recently for Raph's birthday. He had been here before on his own but it was the first time for Chuck and I. The food was amazingly good, the atmosphere was very pleasant and our waiter, David, was very attentive to our needs and go us everything we needed for dinner. TL;DR version- good food, terrible service. Had lunch at El Mariachi with my family, a party of 11 (six kids, five adults). As we sat down, a runner brought us some yummy warm chips and cold, fresh salsa. It took about 5-10 minutes for our server, Gabriel, to take our drink order. It took another 15 minutes to receive our drinks. My husband ordered a Patron margarita with no salt, but they forgot to pour in the sour mix or agave so it tasted like lime tequila. He sent it back for another one, and the replacement was mixed correctly, but the glass had salt on it. My husband just let it go. It took literally 40 minutes (from having sat down) for our server to take our order. It seems he was paying more attention to other tables (his own and other servers') instead of ours. My sister had to find him and ask him to take our order. His attentiveness did improve afterward. We all enjoyed our food (although the lechon was dry). The real standout was the churrasco steak. My husband and I will give this restaurant one more try but we will sit at the bar next time, hopefully for better service. read more

It was about 5:30 on Saturday when my husband and I came without a reservation for date night. We were quickly seated inside and the place was quickly filling up. We had a very timid but efficient server. We ordered 3 drinks, an appetizer and 2 meals and spent $117 without tip. Our appetizer was the Nachos Supreme (refried beans, cheese, guac and sour cream. The tortilla chips tasted freshly made - as well as the chips and salsa that come complimentary. Both my husband and I agreed that the nachos were delicious, although I might have appreciated the sour cream and guac in individual ramekins rather than dumped atop the chips. For my main course, I had the Tijuana Steak and my husband had the Chicken Quesadilla - we both opted for rice and black beans on the side. The skirt steak was a little on the rarer side of well done, but I didn't fuss because it wasn't too bad. The flavor was good and the meat wasn't tough thankfully. After my drink and appetizer, there was no way I could eat more than 1/4 of my entree. M husband enjoyed his quesadilla, which seemed to be stiffed generously with chicken and vegetables. They were so popular that they expanded to a second location in Coral Springs. This location is in the Coral Palm Plaza on University Drive. My friend invited me for dinner and we both really like Mexican Food so we settled on meeting at El Mariachi, a restaurant that we had never been to. When I pulled up, the outside looked really cute with Christmas lights and the inside of the restaurant had beautiful murals on the walls. We were seated in a very comfortable booth. The only slightly annoying thing about our visit was they were filming drinks and food for possibly their social media and I kept having bright lights flashed in my eyes. They might want to save filming for when they are closed. We started our meal with chips and salsa and ended up adding on a really delicious queso. We both liked that it was served very hot so it stayed fluid. The menu is quite large and it has a number of salads which is unusual for a Mexican restaurant. It was hard to decide on what to order and I was tempted by the fajitas but finally settled on a steak chimichanga served with rice and refried beans. It was very filling and I enjoyed it. I ended up taking half home so I could save room for a shared fried ice cream. This was the only let down of the night. What we were served doesn't even look like what is pictured on their website. Instead of the cornflake coating, the ice cream was not coated at all but served in some kind of tortilla shell. Definitely not a good interpretation of the dish. My wife loves coming here for the deep fried Red Snapper. She had it again this trip and it was outstanding. It was a generous portion. It was fresh, tender and delicious, with an outside cripy, crusted skin which adds to the flavor. She opted for a salsa verde sauce which she liked. (Watch for bones). It came with rice, beans, and plantains. I had the Lechon Asado. This was a Cuban pork dish with multiple spices. I enjoyed it. Again, it came with rice, beans and plantains. I feel the need to warn others about the abusive and toxic environment at El Mariachi Restaurant, located in Royal Palm at 2153 University Drive. Although they boast about being a family-owned business, the reality is very different. The owner has a long history of mistreating his employees, creating an environment of fear and hostility. Last Saturday, he crossed a line by publicly yelling at and firing an employee who had worked at the restaurant for many years. This employee, a loyal and hard-working person with a family to support, was humiliated and fired without a valid reason. It is heartbreaking to see how someone who has given so much to the restaurant is treated in this manner. Many of their employees, some of whom are high school students, rely on their paychecks and are afraid to speak out about the constant threats, insults, and mistreatment. It is especially troubling that the owner, instead of being an example for these young workers, abuses his power and creates such a toxic environment. What makes the situation even worse is that the owner often drinks alcohol while working, which adds even more unpredictability and stress to his employees. No one should have to work under these conditions. While the food may be acceptable, customers should not support a business where workers are treated so poorly. I take my reviews very seriously and don't write anything unless I feel deeply about it. In this case, it's time for someone to speak up and hold this owner accountable for his behavior.
