    Carnitas
    Michael S.

Walking in through the front doors of this establishment you are greeted by bright vibrant colors and a friendly atmosphere. The waitress met us and brought out chips and salsa while we looked over the extensive menu. At her recommendation I tried the Carnitas. When I think restaurant style carnitas, I'm thinking shredded or pulled meat. Not here, the meat came out in large beautiful chunks of meat which glistened with moisture. I tried to give my wife one of the pieces, but it was so tender it fell apart on the fork as I tried to move it. You can definitely tell the difference between el Mariachi and the local chain restaurants. Everything was fresh and prepared with care (even their tortillas were made in house). This is yet another example of a gem of a find in a strip mall location. Do NOT let the location dissuade you, this place deserves all the positive attention they can get.

You guys need to come here and eat actual Mexican food. This is our 2nd time here and we came back because the food was amazing, service was fast, and the margarita and pretty good. The mango one is my favorite. I can't recall what I got last time but today I got the burrito California and it was great. And their salsa for their chips tastes authentic and is amazing also. The place is so full of color and you feel like you are in a Mexican restaurant inside of Mexico. Hurry up and come try this place.

The Flamingo! Watermelon redbull, coconut, pineapple mocktail!

My husband and I stopped in the other day to try El Mariachi! We had seen their sign and noticed they were new. The server who took care of us was so friendly and the menu was HUGE! They also have lunch specials every single day till 3pm (not just on the week days). I was also pleasantly surprised to see they had some mocktail options for us NA people! I got a drink called the flamingo. It was watermelon redbull, coconut, pineapple and yeah it was so yummy. For food we shared two items the steak taco plate which came with rice and beans and the "mini" chimichangas! Both were absolutely delicious and I was truly blown away. I always ask for restaurants hottest homemade hot sauce and theirs didn't disappoint. It was a habanero sauce and it was so good. We can't wait to return and I high suggest checking them out and supporting this new business!

    Guatemalan Tamal

First visit, they have only been open for about 4 weeks. So that is enough time to shake out any issues. Bright and colorful decorations and very comfortable. Met by a mother & daughter team of very friendly and informative ladies about the food. Now on to the food, complimentary chips & salsa with a very mild salsa and crisp chips. I ordered two Pasteur street tacos and Guatemalan Tamal. Both were very fresh and flavorful. The pork in the tacos was a bit sweet and that balanced the mild spices and fresh cilantro. The Tamale was different from the usual type that many are familiar with wrapped in a corn husk. This was wrapped in a banana leaf and served with toast in the traditional way. Very fresh and flavorful. Asked for hot sauce and we got two, both escalate the heat levels, perfectly. They have a very full menu, all of us were interested in returning to try more of the menu and believe it would be as good as this meal was. This is not chain La Nap food. This is home made food made with heart. All the best to them and hope they have great success.

I decided and came for lunch today and I will say it did not disappointment like I thought it would. I'm always down to try a place atleast once. So let's get into this review shall we!? Upon walking in my husband and I were greeted by the hostess and you'll see a big chalkboard with their weekly specials. We were sat in the back by a window so it was nice to have a view. Everything looked good on the menu. We started off with shrimp and some oysters and the oysters were topped with collard greens and cheese they were good but the oysters were just HUGE! For my entree I had a shrimp po'boy with a side of the bacon collards again they were really good. My only issue is that for my po'boy the bread was not a roll but it was still satisfying. My husband had the fish platter with grouper and trigger fish with fries and coleslaw. We absolutely loved the grouper it reminded me of red snapper. However we will be back and I love a cutie, rustic looking restaurant.

I believe in honest food reviews so here is my take. When I come to Florida my go-to is the fried seafood platter. When I was looking for seafood restaurants near me I came across this place with great reviews and decided to check their menu. $22.99 for a seafood platter that included all my favorites. I knew for that price I had to check it out. When we pulled up, I realized this is the same place we had eaten at about 11 years ago but could not find again since it is not very close to the place we stay usually and is off the main road so not easy to locate. I am happy to say everything I remembered about the place was still the same. The food was good, the service was good, and we liked the atmosphere. Our server's name was Amy and she was very pleasant and friendly and did a great job. Thank you amy! I will go a little more detailed about the food. Don't get me wrong, you aren't going to get the quality of a fish camp where the fish and chips are 30 plus dollars. However I am not made of money and don't want to spend over $40 for a seafood platter. Everything on the platter was really good and for $22.99 you can't beat it! It came with three or four pieces of fish, plenty of shrimp, oysters, scallops, clam strips, and a crab cake. I like the fact that the fried fish on the platter was either flounder or cod, your choice, which is much better than some places that only give you tilapia. The platter also comes with two side items which I got French fries that were really good and crispy, and cheese grits which were also really good. Both side items I will definitely be getting again. For dessert, you can't go wrong with the key lime pie. Overall, this place is a Hidden Gem in my opinion. The prices are great for the quality of food that you get and somewhere I look forward to returning year after year. In fact we are here for another 5 days and there is a good chance I will be back before we leave!

Overall, I think anytime you get new management in and they're willing to freshen up things, in the long run it's a good thing. You can't keep what's old old forever, everything's got to be refreshed. Now, all you need to do is get rid of those tiny drinking glasses and get the largER plastic restaurant glasses... I know there's value (for the owners and nobody else) in having a waitress continually run back-and-forth to your table to refill your drink (yeaaaa, good service!) but that's not for me, give me a good size drink and everybody's happy! Don't take away too much of what this place used to be, don't refresh too much, and don't try to add or subtract too much... Remember, this was a successful business and most of us like it just the way it was... Most of it. And oh, get some big boy french fries, these little half size things don't work... Also, still no shrimp and catfish Poboys on the menu? Original review: Good place to eat, one of my favorites, on weekdays, I have never had any problems with the food or service here, so rest assured. I've only been here a couple of times when it was super busy. However, aside from a little bit long wait to be served, everything was always good. The star of the show at Whiteys is being able to have a good meal, while looking at the beautiful scenery along the river, that really brings out what the place is all about. The wait, staff is always friendly there, they go out of their way to make you feel at home. The menu here is excellent, it is what it is for this type of joint, and they go above and beyond just standard bar food fair.
