The menu offerings are what you would expect, the portions were generous and delicious. On a recent Friday night dinner they had a live harpist playing. We had a GREAT time here. Jesus and Crystal behind the bar were a delight. They were available and helpful throughout our visit; giving us suggestions when requested and just being friendly. We sat at the bar because the place was PACKED for good reason, the food is wonderful. We loved the experience which was only added to by the others at the bar. Everyone seemed to be regulars, which speaks highly of a place. I am so very glad that we hit this place our first night because we can GO BACK! We are vacationing in Indio and our timeshare concierge told us about this restaurant and how good the food is. We decided to try it out and they were on point, the service was great, drinks were perfect and the food...OMG!!! If I had a bigger appetite I would have ask to order another Combination Fajitas to go. I don't remember our server name but she was great as well. Plus our timeshare is affiliated with the restaurant therefore, anytime members who go to this restaurant and shows them their credentials of the timeshare get 10% off. This restaurant came as a recommendation from a friend who suggested that we meet up there. Funny thing, our friend had never dined there but heard it was a good place. Upon entering, the staff makes one feel welcome and went beyond the beyond to make our meal a pleasant one. The drinks are off the hook good! And what a great selection. The bartender poured them with the perfect mix of flavor and alcohol. There is one problem with that; they're flipping good! The food did not disappoint. Portion size was near perfect in the fact that there neither too much or too little. Flavor of each dish was distinct, showing the cooking prowess of those who prepared the food. Try this place. Shrimp de ojo amazing, freshly made salads so good, medium spruce, but if you like it hot just ask, they have the hot salsa in the back but be ready for the kick! It's delicious. My burrito was delicious and fresh, but being under the category of breakfast burrito, I expected eggs or something. The fajitas plate was sizzling when it arrived at the table, and the shrimp and steak was incredibly tender. The dining was spacious, and the decor had cute embellishments. I want to first thank Julio and there lovely staff for accommodating our party of 11! 6 adults, 2 children, and 3 toddlers. I called them when we were about 10 min away (this was around 6pm) to see if they would take reservations and Julio said we don't take reservations, but there is no wait and said they would prepare for our party. The food and drinks were delicious! I had the Mexicali dish with the nopalitos and frijoles de la hoya, with the carne. It was soooo good! Too bad I didn't take a picture. While visiting clients in the Coachella Valley I stopped in for breakfast since they open at 700 am weekdays. Parking was ample since it was early. Located in a strip center, the restaurant is large and there's a large bar located on the north side of the restaurant and another large dinning room on the south end. Even though it was early the waitress still served me chips and homemade chili sauce. My breakfast entrée I chose - the machaca and eggs which was served with beans and potatoes. The machaca - shredded beef, eggs and sliced bell peppers was hearty tasting when made tacos with the corn tortillas and chili sauce. Coachella Valley has a good selection of authentic Mexican restaurants and El Mexicali makes the list. BTW, they also have 2 sister locations in Indio. read more

This was the biggest rip off ever, I ordered lunch at five minutes till one today and 35 minutes later I got a to go order for the grilled chicken vegetables and tomato salad. I didn't open it right away because I had a 2 1/2 hour drive home and when I opened it I found a piece of chicken so overdone it was like leather, frozen vegetables and I can't imagine why the chicken breast was in a bunch of grease if it was grilled. Crispy, plenty of light, flaky fish and great toppings. And the beans, oh the beans!! Some of the best I've ever eaten! (SShhh, don't tell my mom). Cadillac Margarita was wonderful. I love this place! As a local and a Mexican American who is very particular about Mexican restaurants, I can say that it's my favorite in the Coachella Valley. The setting is attractive, spacious and clean; the service very good--everyone is friendly and attentive. Prices are moderate and the bar is beautiful. But what really matters is how everything tastes: fresh, authentic and delicious. A dish you won't get anywhere else in the Coachella Valley is the Chiles Gueritos, yellow peppers stuffed with shrimp and served with a little mayo and soy sauce. A great appetizer for those who like it hot! Their fish platters are great, and they offer many low-carb sides, including nopales (cactus), which you don't find in many eateries. I don't eat meat, but my family has never been disappointed in anything they've tried, including carne asada and chile verde (pork in mild green sauce). The enchiladas are terrific, but my current favorite is the tacos de camarón, which you can order with a soft or a crunchy tortilla shell. The shrimp in these tacos is perfectly seasoned and cooked, NOT FRIED. The lettuce and tomato are dusted with a little dry Mexican cheese--so good I went back two days later to have them again and my craving was satisfied. A Mexican restaurant is only as good as its rice and beans; theirs are perfect! If you're looking for GREAT, AUTHENTIC Mexican food in the Coachella Valley, look no further than El Mexicali II. There are many Mexican restaurants in the Coachella Valley but I must say that this business has not only risen to the challenges of the Covid pandemic, they have managed to apparently THRIVE! Tried this place a couple of years ago and was very disappointed. Thought I'd give it another try. Very polite and friendly staff and the food was ready when they said it would be (take out order). The problem is the food. The Nachos were soggy and covered in canned Nacho cheese. The menu said it included beans and jalapenos but there were none. It was mostly inedible. Everything else (a Taco, Enchilada and Chile Relleno) was just drenched in cheese and grease. I wasn't able to finish any of the items. Funny thing is, that's how I remember it being the 1rst time I ate there. A lot of people love this place so you may want to try it yourself before making a decision.
