The food is good but customer service is really bad. I call to make an order for my lunch and a co-worker lunch and because I was the same person getting both of the orders they only give me 1 bag of chips. I explained to the cashier the situation and he said he is not able to give me another bag of ships so I requested to talk to the supervisor and explained the situation again and he said that the he was able to give one bag of ships per order. That I can buy an extra one. So I end up buying an extra bag because again there were two separate orders. I believe that is not fair I feel really disappointed. Another one of those places where we went for take-out while visiting recently which I don't usually give 5-stars to, but had to because the personnel was so customer-service oriented and the food was so delicious and plenty of it. I only wish we'd have been able to get back there another time or two. Unfortunately, their website said take-out and curbside only, so that was what we did. On arrival to pick up our order, they actually allowed indoor eating with the county being on the Red-Tier. Next time. I ordered a full Mexican breakfast. The chilaquiles were the best I'd had in a restaurant in a long time. Perfectly cooked (I'm picky), with the right toppings/garnishes. Sauce was so tasty. They had assured me they'd be the best in the Valley and they were. All the side extras also, in addition to a full bag of freshly cooked chips and a couple of excellent salsas. No extra charge. Got a small discount, through the resort we were staying. But, what really impressed me was how friendly and personable the man on the phone was ---- and then they treated me like a special customer on arrival. Great service, rice and beans are the best. I frequently order combo #3, enchiladas, taco and chile relleno, they have the best CR. Hubby likes the chicken nachos, so so on the chicken fajitas, a big no for Chile verde. Quesadillas are cheesy, the chicken tostada salad was good. Drinks are great and fried ice cream is a winner. I have been going to the El Mexicali original for over 25 years and part deux does not disappoint! I still remember seeing grandma in the kitchen hard at work, and who else has fresh tortillas? A favorite of mine since I found out about it in 2000. All the food is great! The salsa is my favorite. More locations now but my heart is with the original location on Indio Blvd next to the train tracks. Great service there. The Chiles Hueritos are down right addicting. Do NOT go to this location. It is NOTHING like the original El Mexicali. The chicken is chopped in big chunks that are not tenderly cooked ranchero style like the other location. The carne Asada is not tender, the red sauce is blah and they barely give you any. It was just a totally different experience than I had the night before at the original location. This restaurant needs to go over to the original location and get training in how they're prepping/cooking their food. read more

I have stopped in about twenty times now. They have a hot hot sauce you must request, it can be dangerous so go light. I have tried many of their entrees now and I must rate all of them at 4.45 to 4.75. The guacamole that they make at your table is better than fantastic.
