A friend recommended El Michoacano because he said they had one of the better molcajetes in Fresno, so my girlfriend and I decided to give it a try. When we arrived, there were only one or two occupied tables. By the time we left, the restaurant was about half full. We were seated immediately and told we could sit anywhere we wanted. The only issue was that several of the first tables we looked at still had dirty dishes or cleaning towels on them, so we had to find one that had already been cleaned. From what I could see, there were several cooks working in the kitchen and one woman handling the entire front of the house. She was the hostess, waitress, busser, bartender, cashier, and everything in between. Initially, that wasn't a problem, but once the restaurant started filling up, it became obvious that she was stretched very thin. We ordered drinks first. My girlfriend got a margarita, and I ordered a michelada with a seafood mix. Both drinks came out quickly and were very good. Our food also arrived surprisingly fast. My girlfriend ordered the shrimp enchiladas, and I ordered the original molcajete. The food was the highlight of the visit. The molcajete was excellent. Unlike many molcajetes that arrive overflowing with sauce and bubbling over the sides, this one was a little cleaner and easier to eat while still delivering great flavor. The portion of meat was generous, and overall I was very happy with it. My girlfriend also enjoyed her enchiladas and margarita. The biggest issue was service, but I don't think it was the server's fault. Once the restaurant got busier, she simply had too many responsibilities to keep up with. After our food arrived, she checked on us once, but after that it became difficult to get refills, extra tortillas, chips, or salsa because she was constantly helping other tables, taking orders, and running around the restaurant. To be fair, there was a "Help Wanted" sign posted at the front of the restaurant specifically looking for bilingual staff, so they clearly know they need additional help. Unfortunately, the staffing shortage affected the overall dining experience. One other thing to note is that when we were ready for the check, we ended up walking to the front ourselves rather than waiting for it to be brought to the table. The overall setting was nice, wasn't too hot, they had sports on the TV and Mexican songs playing. Overall, I enjoyed the food and drinks enough that I would absolutely come back. The molcajete alone is worth trying. Hopefully they're able to add more staff because with a little more support on the service side, this could easily be a five-star experience. read more

Tried this place on a whim and was totally impressed. It's definitely a place for seafood lovers but there are options like fajitas, burritos and enchiladas with meat options. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant! I've never had a complaint about an order and we've been eating here as a family for over five years. The food is always fresh and delicious, it comes quick and they're attentive to order modifications. Everyone has a different favorite but mine is the super burrito. This place is tucked away in the back of a strip mall. We were looking for a place that had sopes, and we ended up here. The interior of the place is nice, although there is a quite a bit of dust on some of the decorations. We got the the sopes (pork and carne asada) and the carne asada plate. My wife was lukewarm on the sopes, as they were a bit harder than she is used to. The carne asada plate was excellent and it came with a roasted jalepeno and fries. The fact that this restaurant is always full of people gives testimony that the food is terrific. Absolutely the best refried beans I've ever eaten. My fellow diner had an enchilada and a taco with rice and beans and I had a chili rellano with rice and beans and both meals were delicious and served piping hot. The only drawback is that the tables are close together but since there are always so many people, it makes sense. This restaurant is our go-to whenever we want Mexican food. It took a while to place our order and get our drinks, but it was not a deal breaker. Once we placed our order we were served quickly. I ordered fajitas and split it with my daughter. This is one of our go to Mexican spots. Over the years they have been gettin busier and busier. Get there early to beat the dinner crowd because they do not take reservations. We love their fajitas mixtas because it comes with chicken, beef, and shrimp all sautéed with onions potatoes and peppers. It also comes with your choice of flour or corn tortillas, rice, beans, a little tiny salad and small amount of guac. I also love their fish tacos! A friend told me about this restaurant and that how the food tasted very original and that they made homemade tortillas. Well let me tell you. They do make real original taste of Mexico! Also, they do make the tortillas. Flour or corn they make the tortillas in the moment. We order chile verde plate, my G-baby got the taco kids meal with rice, fries and beans. I got the shrimp a la devil. The chile verde was very tasty and spicy. The real Mexican flavor. My baby's taco was good according to him. He ate all the beans and the taco. That was what he really enjoyed. My meal was spicy but very tasty, flavorful and spicy, did I mention it was spicy! lol!! I really loved my shrimp a la devil sauce. The atmosphere is nice, the service was good and more importantly, the food was excellent! I had the chili verde plate with rice and beans. The chili verde was tender and the sauce was delicious with a nice spice and kick. The beans and rice did not disappoint either. My wife had the tacos al pastor and she truly enjoyed them. A tostada de camarón that didn't had pico de gallo but instead had bunch of lettuce, never in my life seen such a thing. Food was good I had the sopes asada was good chicken wasn't, my father in-law loved the mariscos molcajete but 40$ and it didn't come with anything else. No rice no beans. Son has the fajitas which he enjoyed. My biggest complaint was the service. Waited 10 minutes at the door to even get acknowledged. It didn't seem like our waitress wanted to be there. We were told they could not split the bill into more than 2 bills when we asked if they could split it into 3 bills. I went to the store nearby and I could smell the deliciousness coming from this restaurant so I decided to try it. It is a nice restaurant with seating inside and outside and it was convenient that they have their menu scan QR code on the table. We ordered many tacos and fried fish , A few cocktails, french fries and a burrito our bill was $100. We were not expecting for our socks to be knocked off in this way. This food taste so authentic and homemade will definitely be back and everyone in my family enjoyed the meal. I highly recommend the fried fish it is so delicious and the presentation is definitely amazing. That Hispanic beer type drinks are extremely impressive because of the presentation and they are so huge and satisfying. We've visited this restaurant enough times and have ordered takeout to finally give a solid review. We have visited on a busy day, not so busy, before pandemic, and yesterday. Let's start with the service (overall) I give it a solid 2 start because they have never gone above and beyond for what you pay, only once out of all the times we visited have they came back to refill. Which is crazy because that particular day , they were pretty busy and yet our waitress still manage to come back to our table. But yesterday, they were pretty slow and when we walked in (you choose where to sit) and we sat outside, it took almost five minutes before she came to greet and take our drinks and it was not busy at all. Never came back to ask if we wanted a refill or if we wanted more chips. Food (overall a 4 star) it's good, every dish we've ordered has tasted great, but with that being said is it worth the money; No. Cleanliness: The restroom (women's) has always been clean, I do have to say that when we made our way to pay our bill the cooks didn't have a mask on, so if that's something that might bother you, maybe stay away but like I said, the restaurant overall is always really clean. To finish my long essay review, is that we won't be back here just because it's overpriced and charge you for ridiculous things, she brought us our waters & two drinks (I didn't ask her to bring my daughter one) but she did, which I thought was nice initially BUT when we went to pay she charged us 1.99 for my daughter's water (like what) which btw I didn't even ask her to bring us water for my daughter because if you have kids you know that they always end up either spilling the water or drinking your drink or never finishing their drink. It's to overpriced here, every time we leave we always feel the same way, which is we should've gone somewhere else. read more
