Do NOT get the tamale de Mole it doesn't taste right and I've had my hand full of mole tamales at other oaxacan restaurants before. The Mole itself tastes bitter and not sweet like it's supposed to. The Nopal Zapoteco has no flavor. The only thing that was alright was the clayuda, the salsa verde, the alambre, the chilaquiles and that's about it. Authentic Oaxaca food cooked by 77yo grandma little old lady. She doesn't speak English but the menu has English. Try the Oaxacan cheese. And the oaxacan tortilla. It's handmade and bigger than the usual. read more

To be honest I had high expectations and I love Oaxacaen food but man was not good, just like the other 1 star I have to agree casa Oaxaca is 100 percent better then here. They have one elder lady who is doing the whole restaurant. Unfortunately it's a mess tables left dirty, they did as well mess up the orders. Now I tried the mole negro and loved it and thought to myself this place will be good, I got the burrito with mole coloradito and as I was eating it they had chicken bones and cartilage in it. That instantly turned me off from the food, I don't know there health and sanitation but if that is acceptable to them I will never be back. Sorry but I highly do not recommend coming here unless you want some washed up food. read more

First and last time I come to this place. Unfortunately this food had no flavor! Service was really bad. It was some young kid taking orders. We never got our drinks. I had to get up myself and go to their area where they have soft drinks and get my own drinks! Orders were wrong. He forgot some food orders as well. I asked for utensils and he brought me 2 forks when we were a party of 7! Asked him for a spoon more than 3 times to eat the soup he just would get mad and nod his head yes as yeah yeah I'll get it later. Again the food taste was not even worth the wait! I would not recommend this place to anyone! There is another location nearby Casa Oaxaca who is way better than this awful place. read more

The food here is delicious--rich, complex and savory--with good prices, extremely generous portions (two-three meals for the price of one, but that's me) and great service. I love that the tortillas are so fresh and the Oaxacan cheese is amazing. The green chili they put out as an appetizer of sorts is extremely spicy, so be warned, but I like it and it's good to add to some of the food. I also love that they serve chapulines (grasshoppers) for such a low price! They go well with the food too. But I really love that the service was so great. The first time I came I ordered the crickets and the waitress was nice enough to tell me that the batch they ordered was a bit unusual (it came in some sauce they weren't used to), so she gave me very generous sample to taste. I appreciate her honesty. Similarly, when we had some discussion about a dessert she brought out what we ordered plus a little sample of another flavor that someone in my group had never tasted or heard of so he could finally have a taste of it. I've been coming here since I was a little girl as an adult I still continue to come here despite living an hour away. It's so delicious! I've had everything on the menu and it's all great! The mole negro they have is my absolute favorite. It's creamy with the perfect mix of spicy and sweet. Don't be fooled by the $4 tamale. It's HUGE! One will be enough to fill you up! The Tlayudas are amazing they put so much avocado and cheese in it! The meat is seasoned so well. Everything blends so great together. The chapulines are a bit exotic and more for daring people but they make a nice appetizer with some sal and limon. The horchata is different from all the other you've had. It's not too sweet and they add nuts with cantaloupe it's different but so delicious! Out of all the desserts the Flan is my favorite. Its so rich and smooth. They're hands down the best Oaxaca restaurant in all of Orange County. So expect it to get busy but the wait is never too long. They always have chips and a really spicy but tasty green salsa! Horrible Customer Service. I came with my Husband and Mother-in-law. My Mother-in-law ordered a cup of water we didn't receive it we asked nicely a few more times at the end we never received it while the table behind us that came in after received their drinks right away. This place is amazing. My boyfriend takes me here and everything we have ordered has been AMAZING...however, my heart belongs to the tlayuda and the chapulines. The tlayuda is HUGE. It is enough to share and the oaxacan cheese they top it with. Oh so delicious. Chapulines are these little toasted crickets/grasshoppers...I know, I know, no one wants to eat crickets, but trust me on this one guys. The MOMENT you get over your fear and actually try one, your first thought will be, "I get it". You have to try it to get it....then you will be craving them forever more! The service is a bit slow, but that is only because they are making everything fresh to order. I also tried the fermented pineapple drink (tepache, I believe it's called). I wasn't sure if I liked it...so I kept tasting it over and over again. By the end of the meal, it grew on me and also perfectly complimented the flavors of the meal.
