The service was excellent and the food was delicious. I ordered the cioppino and it was tasty, but I was a little disappointed by the lack of pasta and the really thick sauce. I feel like it needed more broth added to the tomato sauce and about 10 ounces of linguine pasta. It was a pricey dish so I give it a resounding "Meh". I finished it in about 8 spoon fulls and 3 minutes so you can tell the portions were small. The pork chop was cooked to perfection and tasted great! I'm not sure what was in the corn sauce, but it really added to the flavour at the chop. The cocktails were made to order and we were very happy with the pour. My wife and I visited here on Saturday, March 19, 2022. This tavern has been around since the turn of the 19th century in different guises. Our server, Dave S., wore a top hat like Lincoln. The place contained quite a few patrons, but luckily, we had made a reservation earlier in the day. They even called us and said they could seat us earlier than our 9:00 PM reservation. We arrived at 8:30 PM and admired the brick walls and vintage Durango photos as we were seated. This tavern has a cozy, romantic atmosphere exuding from its age. We ordered the roasted bone marrow appetizer. This is served with green parsley shallot sauce, fried capers and grilled crostini bread. An amazing appetizer, the green sauce had many levels of flavor and those grilled capers provided crispy and sour notes. The marrow was rich, hearty and very filling. I ordered a Sazerac cocktail and dry aged pork chop. The sweetness of the cocktail paired wonderfully with the 10 ounces of duroc pork. My pork chop had an apple mustard glaze, and a jalapeno fire roasted corn puree. Super juicy meat with the thick, spicey puree sent my taste buds into bliss. The side of bacon braised collard greens really tasted delicious. This place is a bit pricey. For an appetizer, cocktail, and two entrees we paid a total of $76.42. However, the food is magnificent, the atmosphere historic, and service quick and friendly. read more

This a really cool old building with brick walls converted to a very nice bar - bistro. Stopped in for lunch. It seemed to be more of a cocktail bar than beer bar. But they had an adequate selection of beers to choose from. We were greeted and seated after a few minutes wait. Our server was patient with us as it was our first time there. We ordered the Scotch Egg for an appetizer. It was delicious. Then two bagel based plates. One a plain bagel with a cheese spread. The other, the Boho, with Boursin cheese, sunflower sprouts, and cucumber. It was really good. The vibe here was really enjoyable. I highly recommend it for lunch. This is not only my favorite restaurant in Durango, but one of my favorite restaurants ever. The food is just beyond phenomenal every time I am here. I pretty much always get the soup du jour and a 3 meat/cheese charcuterie board and it fills me up. The charcuterie portions are very generous and reasonably priced - $15 to select 3. Also comes with a bunch of bread. The soup was loaded baked potato which was delicious. My drink was the Echelon- wasn't my favorite, but I think I just ordered the wrong thing. read more

Went there the first day for appetizers. Had the bone marrow, beets with cheese and KKB lollipops. Terrific. Our first server was absent. But a shift came and we had Greg. Hi gave just the right amount of attention. And he was personable. The second night was the same. Special shout out to Mandy. Great service. The second night included the lollipops and palates. Wow. I don't like taking pictures of my food but I really should have for this place. Food was incredible. The best meal we had on our trip. We started off with chicken lollipops and I can see why it's a favorite. I had the salmon and it was delicious. Cooked the way I usually make salmon but the sauce, spices and the apple onion mix all came nicely together. Husband had the scallops and he devoured the meal even with the sauce as he is picky about sauces. Oh and dessert, my god, it was amazing. We had the Black Forest dessert. Again I should have taken photos! The layout of the restaurant is great. Bar in the front with tables in the back with curtains to give you more of an intimate setting. Friendly staff with wonderful recommendations. Not super classy but great spot if celebrating or having a date night out. read more

We absolutely love El Moro. We come here every time we visit and it never disappoints. The service is amazing, the food delicious and a great location when visiting downtown. I was so excited to write this review. The best food we've had on our Colorado trip thus far. We happened to walk in during happy hour (every day from 4-6pm) and plopped ourselves down at the bar.* $3 well drinks, $4 wines, $5 beers $1 off apps Usually, my frugal a$$ would just order happy hour drinks, but the specialty cocktails sounded so amazing, I ordered off that menu. Full price and all! You can't totally teach an old dog new tricks though since all the food we ordered was off the app menu :) We LOVED everything we got! The cocktails were unique, delicious and beautiful! We ordered: - Soup of the day, honeydew gazpacho ($5): I've never had a honeydew version of gazpacho, and it didn't disappoint. Refreshing with a bit of spice. Great on a hot day. - Scotch egg ($8): OMFG. The best scotch egg I've had in my life. The yolk was semi soft and the breading was so crunchy! I made sure I had a few watercress in each bite too. - Green curry mussels ($13): The mussels were fat and juicy and the curry broth was so good I wanted to just drink it from the bowl. It reminded us of a Thai tom yum soup. - Roasted marrow bone ($13): Generous portion! Melt-in-your-mouth-fatty. The way a good bone marrow should be. Very good presentation too! Thomas was our bartender and I blown away by the service. He asked us what our names were when we sat down, remembered them, and frequently checked in on us by name. Who does that anymore?!? The Korean fried cauliflower was large and well flavored, crispy but the slurry of cornstarch that it was fried in was a bit excessive. Steak was perfectly cooked rate, as requested. 2.5 stars... We stopped earlier in the day because calling for a reservation was not working(no answer). Spoke to the awkward girl (no eye contact and no straightforward answers) at the check in desk and she informed us we wouldn't need to make a reservation for dinner...so we were surprised when the same awkward hostess (now seemed to bust on a screen behind the desk to deal with us) told us an hour wait... snuck next door for a beer while we waited. Great beer selection and a full bar! Got seated near the front, and with all windows/doors open it was a bit warm as the AC couldn't keep up...I ordered an extra beer to compensate! I ordered the Cuban sandwich and fries... sandwich was on a beautiful crusty bun and composed of tasty meats, cheeses, and a thick pickle slice...flavor was ok, but lacked moisture so I found myself dipping the sandwich in the fry sauce to compensate. Ambiance is barrio saloon, prices were above food quality, and staff choices should be reconsidered. Service was good. But man, the food was maybe a 6.5 out of 10, and yet the prices and portions were for a 10 out of 10 restaurant. We got several entrees, as well as dessert, and nothing was that special. Of note the Orange Chocolate cake was dry and not great. Yet our bill for 4 people was nearly $250 before tip. Our server did not check-in on us once after our entrees were delivered, causing us to run out of water and wine. We would have ordered more wine if they had just checked with us, but we got ignored. Recommended by our hotel host. Went for a casual dinner. We split a Mojo Risin' with an extra side salad. I had the Bells Hopslam beer on tap and my wife had the house Cab. I got the curry dressing on the side salad and she got the bleu cheese dressing. The bleu cheese dressing was milder than we like (we like a strong bleu cheese flavor) but the curry was amazing and it "paired" well with the sandwich. The Mojo Risin' was really good. Of the 23 suppers that we had during our trip this was the best. The mixology of the Symmetry drink was excellent, simple and refreshing. The seared scallops were cooked to perfection, nice crust, and tender inside. Served with purple chives mashed potatoes, rainbow chard, bacon over vermouth creamed sauce. We recently visited Durango and I was excited to try this place out. We went on a Sunday eve (note, a lot of the shops close around 5/6) and decided to stop in for a few appetizers and cocktails. Sat at a lovely high top near the bar and tried a few cocktails from their 10 year anniversary menu! Such inventive sips! For bites we had the Scotch Egg and the Sambal Lollypops. Everything was delicious and spot on cook. Wandered in for brunch. Staff was friendly and accommodating. We had the scotch egg and Croque Madam. The Madam was good. The bread was sliced thick so with a sandwich it was too much bread versus the ham and bechamel sauce. I just took away a slice and did it open face. (That sounds nasty) but it was good. Now I've never had a scotch egg before. This was delicious. It was well prepared and had some crunchy ass bacony type outer layer of goodness that was seriously tickling my tastebuds.
