Last night's birthday dinner was excellent! Everything about our dinner was terrific. From the greeting by the hostess, to the wonderful service (our server was efficient, friendly, and had a great sense of humor), to the food! We started with the Korean Fried Cauliflower and Honey-Sambal Lolipops and both were excellent. Each of us ordered a different entree (New York Strip, Honey Garlic Salmon, Chicken Au Poivre, Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage, and Bulgogi). Kudos to the kitchen staff because all were so tasty and cooked to perfection. For dessert we ordered the PB&J ice cream sandwich and a couple orders of the Black Forest. This place was even better than we expected! Fresh amazing food, later we found out made all food was made from scratch and presented with artistic flair. Looked at different restaurants for a place with good food and beer. This place looked interesting so we headed to town. They were fully booked for reservations until 8pm but the person on the phone said they took walk ins. There's only street parking so we drove around and finally found a spot. There's some outdoor seating in front of the restaurant and at the bar. Halloween decor was cool. Skulls and bats and such. We were shown to a high top table and given menus. Decided on Tajin pork rinds, dry aged pork chop and pasta and prawns with Ommegang Neon Rainbow IPA. The dry aged pork chop is a grilled 10oz duroc pork chop in an apple mustard glaze with cider and house bacon braised collard greens served with a jalapeño fire roasted corn purée. The dish didn't look good. He said the pork chop was cooked well and to his liking but the presentation left a lot to be desired. The purée looked nasty in color. The collard greens were not tasty but not sure if that's because we don't like collard greens or if they weren't seasoned well. The house-made squid ink spaghetti has squared-off corners and is served with jumbo gulf shrimp, grape tomatoes, lemon garlic butter, white wine and fresh basil. It tasted more 'full' or 'weighty'. I can't describe it well. It is said it is supposed to have more of a sea-salt tang and be briny in taste. I'm not sure if that even describes it. It was interesting. The color certainly was. And the combination with the shrimp and grape tomatoes and sauce was delicious. The jumbo shrimp was perfectly cooked. I could have eaten another serving of the dish. The Tajín pork rinds were average. Some were so hard they couldn't be chewed. I should have ordered the roasted bone marrow to try it for the first time. Maybe next time. Our server Jessica F was friendly and the servers were all dressed differently but fashionably. The decor was modern and chic. Love the Mason jar lighting and design of the bar. The women's restroom was in the old style with the pull handle and the water tank hung above. The sink was old style as well. I would come again even though he didn't like it as much. Wow this place was awesome! We made a reservation and ended up sitting on their somewhat make shift patio, which was great because it was such a nice night and it was so loud inside (though the decor inside was beautiful). The food here was on point! The lamb burger.... So so so good! We also had some nice cocktails. I would definitely eat here again the next time I'm in town. read more

Son ordered NY Steak (yum!) and I had the salmon on the lemon garlic orzo and veggies and it was delicious. Food was really flavorful, fresh and atmosphere fabulous. We loved the lollipops, a spicy take on chicken wings using drumsticks and a wonderful sweet/spicy sauce, plus a green curry dipping sauce. The Korean Fried Cauliflower was also great. What a great lunch! Every cocktail we ordered was SPOT ON and so yummy. They allowed our dogs on the patio and brought water right away, which is always great service in my eyes. We ordered the bone marrow appetizer and it was soooo good! My only suggestion might've been more crostini's haha I ended up getting the lollipop appetizer as my meal but they were also 10/10! Amazing ambiance with fabulous food. Made reservations for 2 adults and 2 children. Table was ready and setup to accommodate our 2 young children. Staff was knowledgeable and helpful. My husband and I got into town late, after a frustrating day of travel. The atmosphere at El Moro was clean and comfortable. The service was incredibly friendly. The drinks were good and unique. The food was good, not great. The scotch egg had a good flavor but was over-fried which made them hard to cut/chew. The cheese plate was good but could have used more variety. Between her drink suggestions, music taste and sense of humor- my friend thought she was pretty cute! True romance was our top choice out of the drinks and ended up having three! We've been here twice now, though this is the first review. First, the service. Elias was a rock star. This has been the most enjoyable dinner we've had in town. He was punctual when we needed him, but not overbearing. Our glasses were never empty, but our conversation was never interrupted. We shared the green curry mussels as an appetizer. They were delicious, and the order is a good portion for two adults. I had the lamb shank. Extremely tender, this fell right off the bone. The risotto was a little spicy, but I loved it and it really balanced the meat. Cocktails were great, wine suggestion was too, I'd definitely try this place if I were you. read more

El Moro is one of the most reliably excellent eateries in town. After living in town more than a decade and working in food service, I got fairly picky about where I take my guests and agree to eat. El Moro has become a favorite with years of excellent service, food, and a lavender gin and tonic that I just cannot recreate at home. The green curry mussels are a crowd favorite, but have been trickier for the restaurant to offer due to supply issues. This restaurant has been a favorite for me when I have guests, dates, or when I create a scavenger hunt for a friends birthday and need somewhere wonderful to conclude things with good food and drink. read more

Solid tavern with great drinks. They do have a large menu which I am not a fan of usually but that's personal preference. The service is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable given the portion sizes. I've been a few times when visiting Durango and it's definitely my go to solid never lets me down meal. read more

El Moro is amazing!! My sister and I stopped through town on a business trip and stumbled across El Moro while walking around downtown, and it did not disappoint! The first thing we noticed was how BEAUTIFUL the restaurant is inside, perfect mood lighting, well thought out decor, and wonderful staff! Alex helped us out and was soooo knowledgeable about what drink would be best based on the flavor profiles we like, we planned to only have one but after trying the lemon lavender gin drink he suggested we HAD TO get another. Alex knows his stuff when it comes to helping customers and chatted with us about all the amazing things Durango has to offer, we will be coming back to Durango just to see Alex and eat at El Moro again! read more

Never been treated so poorly by a hostess. Ariel misjudged me and my guests from Louisiana and reported to our waiter that we should not be served alcohol. When we arrived for a table for 5 she said it would be a wait and I asked if they could get a drink at the bar. She said no, the bar seats are taken. So we went next door to Starlight. By the time our drinks came, the table was ready. WE HAD NOT EVEN TAKEN A SIP! Being from New Orleans, where drinks can go from place to place, we carried the full drinks over 10 steps to El Moro. Apparently, this will get you banned from both places! How about talking to your traveling customers, Ariel, and explaining to 60 year old women about the issue! Then, to top that off, our waiter took our food and drink orders (which totaled $223 by the way) and only told us that we would not get our drinks at all after we placed our entree order. One of the few restaurants open for reservations in this Covid world in Durango. This place will not disappoint- amazing service, amazing food! The ambiance is also seriously cool- old world, new world bar. My friend and I shared an apple beet salad, scallops, and strip steak- all so good- finished every bite. Dessert was a chocolate cream de pot, and plantains with peanut butter chip ice cream- very good. We are both leaving extremely full and so happy that we tried El Moro. read more

Wonderful experience. I love trying craft cocktails and this place put me right in heaven. I typically dont go for rum, but both rum cocktails I tried were awesome. They had so much unique, but balanced flavors I would definitely order them again. I ended the evening with the springtime. It was cozy and a bit interactive since you get to pour your own tea. The service was awesome! Sarah seemed very busy but gave us the perfect amount of attention. She even took her time to answer all my ponderings on which cocktails to order and suggestions for us around town. Every person that visited our table was friendly and seemed to enjoy their jobs, which reflected to us positively. The food was perfect! I told the hubs after we started in on the cauliflower that, that was worth the visit! Korean Fried Cauliflower was hands down my favorite food item we ordered. The Chicken Lollipops were also delish. We order the gazpacho. It was slightly sweet with a spicy flavor, but no heat. We shared the fennel sausage pasta which was totally awesome! The red pepper sauce was surprisingly mild, and went perfect with the sausage and kale. We loved everything we ate here and we'd definitely be back for more! read more

While we loved the ambiance and had good service, we will not be returning to El Moro. This is the third time we've eaten here and been disappointed with the quality of the food. The last time we ate there we ordered nearly everything off the late night menu. The salads were overdressed and under-seasoned, the hot dog was cold to the point that we thought it might not have even been cooked. The cauliflower chunks were massive and pasty - it seemed like it was blanched, tossed in a cornstarch batter and covered in sauce but not cooked afterward, leaving a grit of raw batter in your mouth. The saving grace was the fries. Delicious, crunchy, salty. I otherwise cannot recommend a dish here. read more

Seems to be slipping a bit. The prices have gone up but the quality has gone down. They have taken some smaller plate items off the menu that were good. The bar and the atmosphere of this place are awesome, it's good for a cocktail and appetizer but the dinner menu and service are not worth the money. El Morro was a pleasant surprise. My wife found this for our anniversary dinner. The decor was quite interesting. When you go, check out the cheese grater sconces on the walls. I had Curry Green Lip Mussles and we shared a cheese and meat selection. She had the Mojo Risin' sandwich and I had a lamb burger. I was a little disappointed in the fries that accompanied it but since I was saving room for dessert, I didn't complain. Dessert more than made up for the fries. Flavors were great and they took the time to decorate our plates. All in all, a good meal. read more

Came up to Durango from Albuquerque for an overnight and had dinner at El Moro. It was exactly what I wanted for the evening. The service was amazing, Greg was awesome! I had the Barnes Family Chardonnay, my sister had the Pardon my French specialty drink - a red wine drink served warm. They were both so good. The food was,"oh my goodness good." I had Prawns and Pasta with a side salad. The greens in the salad honestly tasted as though they were pulled from the ground today and i loved fig vinaigrette. The pasta was an ideal portion. My sister had the soup of the day, an onion soup on the creamy side, made with a bourbon barrel stout and Burrata made with heirloom tomatoes, a balsamic reduction and a wonderful crusty bread. The atmosphere and decor was a style that is my favorite. Go, eat, enjoy. While my date this evening was my sister, this place is such a perfect date night.
