Great experience for our first visit to this location and it definitely becomes one of my preferred destinations for El Nopal. The building has a lot of seating and it's great for groups as well. During warm months their patio stays busy. Salsa and chips brought to the table immediately and I loved that the hot had some kick. It wouldn't be a visit without queso so they brought that next. We were having lunch so I ordered from the ala carte menu - 3 beef tacos with hard shells and 2 cheese quesadillas to split with my son. My husband got the carnitas. Everything came out hot, fresh, and with plenty of cheese. So so good! I'll be bringing back more of my family here and suggesting it for group gatherings. read more

Unfortunately, I forgot to get photos, but this location is similar in decor to the other El Nopal locations. This is a great place to get great food, in a fun and festive atmosphere. For those watching the spice level and for those of with more mature digestive systems , you can ask for sauce on the side. I was initially afraid to ask for that, for fear of being THAT customer, but if there was resistance, I was completely unaware. As with other locations, the meal and portion sizes are enough for multiple meals, so it's great for fun and and leftovers. Their tortilla chips are some of my favorite, out of places I have been to. Craving Mexican after a road trip on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. As soon as we walked in, we were seated and waited on right away. We got chips and salsa which was served with two different sauces. This is our weekly girls night out spot for literally the coldest draft beer I have ever had at a restaurant. No lie, the beer goes down so smoothly when it is that ice cold! Especially when combined with spicy salsa and their creamy white queso! Margaritas here are always fantastic too but honestly I can never pass up the ice cold cerveza! The food is your normal Mexi-American take and I generally order the same chicken taco fajita every week. I love that their food is never cold and the servers are friendly and quick. I gave a fairly negative review the other day, but feel like I was a little harsh. So I am updating it. I have been coming to this El Nopal since they opened, which may have been almost 20 years ago. I have mostly loved the place. I proposed to my wife here. There have been some months-long gaps where I stopped coming because of horrible servers in whose section I kept up ending, but that always eventually worked itself out. I stopped coming here as often about 6 months ago because my drink is "tall rum & club soda", and the price here for mixed drinks has gotten fairly high, and out of line with comparable local Mexican restaurants. However, this El Nopal is still a good place. I had pretty bad service last time I was here, but service is usually pretty good. The food is consistently good. I have to throw in that Pete is an excellent server, and there are some other good ones. This location has faded some over the years, but is still pretty solid. read more

El Nopal is Americanized Mexican food. There are over 25 locations in the Louisville area and some are hit or miss. However, this location is consistently good every time I come here. The margaritas are refreshing and the chips and salsa are fresh and tasty. I normally get the Pollo Asado, enchiladas, or tamales. At this location, the entrees are consistently huge and flavorful. So I have never been big on El Nopal in Louisville but finally I have found a location to prove me wrong. I was here with my woman's church group and only 10 rsvped but 8 showed up unexpectedly. The staff was super accommodating and helpful the whole time. And we were all excited cause we had a big unexpected turn out. Quick, fast and fresh. I love their thin & crispy chips. Salsa is a bit on the watery side -- I mix hot & mild together. My favorite dish are the tamales & the taquitos. Very generous portions. El Nopal is a huge favorite in my household. We love the prices. We love the margarita specials. This particular location doesn't seem to have great service (the Eastern Parkway location has THE BEST service), which is a bummer, but the dining room environment is fun and festive. We love the pollo con arroz with added fajita veggies, or combination 9, which is 2 tacos, rice, and beans. They also offer queso half dips if you don't want a full one - which is a great option for when you fill up on the salsa! read more

We have been to this restaurant many times and have always enjoyed. We ordered tonight through grub hub and our order was wrong. We weren't upset. Mistakes happen. We took it back to the restaurant ourselves to get the missing items and were told it was grub hubs fault. That the driver had ordered the wrong things. We showed them our receipt where we had paid for almost $60 of food. They refused to give us the missing items and told us to take it up with grub hub. We did report the incident to grub hub to get a refund. I just feel that it would have been a better decision for them to give us the food that we had ordered and paid for. Named El Nopal (The Cactus), this Del Taco cleverly disguises itself as Mexican food restaurant throughout Kentucky. The popularity of this restaurant makes it clear that Kentuckians have never had Mexican food and love slop. Almost every item on their dinner menu is stuffed with cheap oily ground beef and covered with flavorless imitation Monterrey Jack cheese, might have even been old Mozzarella; either way when one can't even tell what type of cheese is covering one's food, it's not a good sign. The beans, often a good way to judge a Mexican Restaurant as beans are a staple in Mexican food, had the look and consistency of grits. They were spilled about the plate and further ruining everything they touched like a gray fungus. The salsa screamed "store bought pasta sauce!" and lacked in any spice. The chips were fried and re-fried with no salt added for those health conscious customers not wanting to break the 400lb mark. Not wanting to seem rude and sticking to my upbringing, I tried to finish what was on my plate - I failed miserably. Now the oily mess that I did manage to keep down is attacking my insides and wanting to break out one way or another. About the only thing that was good were the overpriced Chiclets by the cash register. The rice was decent but nothing special. This being the 3rd Mexican restaurant I have tried in Kentucky, and all of them being atrocities, Mexican abortions if you will, I will not be eating Mexican food in this state again. I have been eating at this restaurant (at this location) for 10 years and it has never ceased to amaze my taste buds. This El Nopal is by far my favorite restaurant for Mexican cuisine, if not my favorite restaurant in general. If you're looking for authentic, this place is a little Americanized, but can offer real Mexican flavors similar to what I've tasted at the homes of my Mexican friends. If you go here, and I HIGHLY recommend that you do, I recommend getting their crab meat enchiladas, steak fajitas, fried chicken chimichangas, chicken flautas, chicken quesadillas, or my favorite meal (which I get at least monthly), the Shrimp A La Mexicana. Their guacamole is also quite delicious and the margaritas are the best I've tasted! Also, don't worry about breaking your budget, because El Nopal is not only delicious but moderately inexpensive. This is a pretty great place to get some Mexican food! I have been several times and service has always been well. Something odd is the way the salsa is served. They bring out two jars. One is hot and one is mild! The problem with it is mother one is labeled! So your kind of playing salsa roulette!
